Would have loved to see Pascoe and Go's faces when the Wests board members told them they were going to flick JT. All of a sudden being BFF's with the Chairperson meant nothing to Jason.

Would have been priceless, more so Go, she loved him.

The Wests Tigers today sacked coach Jason Taylor just three games into the NRL season. Problem is, he didn’t deserve to be punted just yet.

Taylor took the reigns at Concord in the lead up to the 2015 NRL season, holding the clipboard for a total of 51 games with the club. He’s picked up 20 wins with the club while dropping 31 matches, but Taylor’s Tiger career won’t be defined by how many games he won.

The coach made the tough call late last season to drop former captain Robbie Farah to NSW Cup, eventually releasing the international rake to South Sydney, a feud lasting longer than twelve months in Campbelltown. Taylor didn’t like the control Farah had at the club and made the call not many coaches would have the guts to do.

Wests Tigers opened the season with a bang this year, thumping South Sydney in the opening round 34-18, putting Jason Taylor both 1-0 on the ladder, and 1-0 against Robbie Farah. But back-to-back losses to Penrith and Canberra will finally see the guillotine drop on Taylor, but how is that fair?

South Sydney, coming off a shocking 2016, lost skipper Greg Inglis to an ACL rupture during the match, were no hope against the Tigers. But they didn’t carry the expectations or roster that both Canberra and Penrith possess.

Both clubs made the finals last season, with many expecting the clubs to finish in the top four this year. They are some of the most elite sides in the competition. Yes, the losses were heavy. But it’s only the third round. The competition is already shaping up to be the closest in over forty years, surely the man deserves more time.

The club confirmed his immediate termination on Monday afternoon, with chairman Marina Go stating the decision wasn’t an easy choice, but the right one.

“Our position has always been to make sure that the Head Coach’s contract is tied to performance and that hasn’t changed. We are committed to building a side that will be in a position to win NRL Premierships and believe that this decision is the correct one for the future of the club,” she said.

Since taking over the club two years ago, Taylor has overseen the meteoric rise of both James Tedesco and Mitchell Moses, implemented Aaron Woods as the club’s new captain, saw the team fall one win short of a finals berth, and sacked a legend of the team in the means of improving it.

The Wests Tigers were a mess when Taylor stepped in. Sure, they’re still not the strongest club around, but Taylor has cleaned out so much mess from Leichardt, he deserves better than to be booted after a handful of weeks.

Robbie Farah is one man sure to have a sly smile on his face today, however. While the coach won the battle of the first round, Farah appears to have won the war, with his rival being sacked just days after the hooker played his 250th NRL match.

Assistant coach Andrew Webster has been named the interim coach, with Ivan Cleary and Todd Payton the first names put forward to take the reigns at the club. The urgency to name a new coach will be crucial, with the entirety of Wests’ big four off-contract this season.

Jason Taylor was never the most successful coach, but he was one of the gutsiest. He just didn’t deserve to be booted, at least not just yet.

Thanks for the article Tigerap, I too believe he deserved at least see out his contract. The Raiders with key players back, and some of ours out, were always going to be extremely tough to control. Tigers were up there showing what they can do for 30 mins and then the wheels fell off - think players should also take some blame for that.
Anyway, we will have the advantage on home soil this weekend and our record against them is good considering their position - we seem to play well against them. ET will be back, (hope his little daughter is ok ) we really missed him last week. And if we can keep our players on the field and not off with concussion we may well win this round.

What fan boys? Have you seen a single person complaining that he's gone? To the extent that anyone has complained it has been about the fact that **another** coach has been punted before their contract has expired. It's not a good way to attract high calibre coaches to constantly be laying the blame at the foot of the coach and leaving the playing group unaccountable.

To win they desperately need more exciting options out of DH so their play is not so predictable. Bring Cooke over from Souths or someone from somewhere

They were winning last year with Dene Halatau at hooker, you are yet again gibbering. A creative hooker relies on the pack being dominant even moreso than the halves. Cook wouldn't fix anything and in any event we should really be having a look at Liddle before doing any recruitment in the area.

I wasn't gibbering when the first day that Woodsy was named capt I began a thread opposing such titled something like "Captain - Farah, Woods or Who?", I almost got an uppercut penalty for that one. About 18 months on and the whole forum is backing me up. Yet yes I know less about footie than everyone here I admit.

The decision that sealed Jason Taylor's fate

Danny Weidler

Wests Tigers "big four" of Aaron Woods, James Tedesco, Mitchell Moses and Luke Brooks deny they were behind the sudden departure of coach Jason Taylor. The club cleared them of any push against Taylor, but what has been bubbling away is talk about the impact the so-called "football whisperer" had on the demise of Taylor.

In case you don't know, Joe Wehbe is a self-proclaimed life guru, the man who clears the minds of Tedesco, Moses, Brooks and Woods. Tedesco credited Wehbe with his rise from injury-plagued potential superstar to State of Origin. Wehbe is also something of a guiding light for Isaac Moses, the manager of the Tigers' four.

A few weeks back, things were looking great for the Tigers: they beat Souths in the first round and behind the scenes a six-figure contract was being negotiated for Wehbe to come on board and make his "whispering" role club-wide. It was a deal to keep the players happy and to keep the club's unofficial boss, Moses, in line. But then things started to go sour. Anthony Carbone was added to team Wehbe. Carbone is a massage expert who is favoured by Jarryd Hayne.

The Tigers dug their heels in at the addition of Carbone, and the deal with Wehbe was scuttled as a result. From that moment on it has gone south for the Tigers. The players were upset that "their man" was on the outer and their displays dived.

I asked Mitchell Moses about the work he was doing on the mental side of his game and, without mentioning Wehbe, he said: "I missed out on that [the mental coaching] for the first couple of weeks and I think you could tell from the footy I was playing. I was in my head too much and overthinking and overplaying my hand. The last couple [of games], I've got that back a bit."

But that was too late for Taylor. His chances of hanging on to his job went with the decision to stand firm over Wehbe.

And here is where the Wehbe story gets even more interesting: don't expect Tigers coach-in-waiting Ivan Cleary to welcome Wehbe on a fat salary. If the players have a desire to see Wehbe for any mind management, they will have to do it off their own bat.

When Isaac Moses was asked about the potential return of Wehbe, he said: **"It's up to the board and the CEO. If he [chief executive Justin Pascoe] thinks he [Wehbe] is good he can bring him back. It's up to him. He's made the decisions the last couple of weeks, so it's completely up to him.**"

Cleary is a strong individual who won't be dictated to by the playing group. Or a manager. Or a mind expert. Or anyone in the media.

Was watching NRL 360 where they were praising JTs football knowledge and suggesting that he would make a very good assistant coach at a stable club, like he was at the Roosters. Maybe Cleary should offer him that role.

Mate if he brings an ex coach back as an assistant ,I would want Potter or Sheens

And that pretty much sums it up Ink, they have no idea of responsibility which is a fair contributing factor to the hole the team now finds itself in.
