Wests Tigers strengthen position in Macarthur region..

That will do me. I have now decided my new ISP team will be the Wyong Roos. I will probably attend the same number of their ISP games as I attended tigers this year.
In other words, don't expect to see me among the couple of hundred people you see at these games for either club.
This does nothing to strengthen the relationship with Macarthur while playing out of Lidcombe. They may as well take them to regional areas to build the brand

They should base themselves out of Cambo.

How would that work for training as part of the NRL Squad ?..or do you mean home games played if not before an NRL fixture..

Can I ask our Macarthur friends if the actual mascot will give you more incentive to follow a team or not?

I'm not originally from either of our founding regions so am somewhat impartial but I just can't see how having two different identities within the same club as being of any real benefit to anyone.

I totally understand that the older generation's (me included) would have some affiliation with the Magpies but if they are talking about a "pathway system" then surely attracting the younger generation towards Wests Tigers should be the way to go.

I was thinking the same thing. Lets strengthen our presence in the area by diluting our brand. Makes complete sense.

If they are really strengthening the Club’s presence in the Mac area, great but IMO its just a lame justification for a terrible business decision.

Sad to see the Club is still managed by the heart rather than the head

For all you pro Balmain whingers - the original agreement when the joint venture started was that Wests and Balmain would maintain a team in the highest comp under NRL. Sheens destroyed that agreement when he convinced the board that all the Wests State Cup players should be included wit h BRET to allow an easier access to NRL. When BRET ceased to exist in state cup the name changed to Wests Tigers but failed to honour the original agreement of the joint venture. This has now been rectified with Wests Magpies now having a team in the highest comp under the NRL. There is nothing stopping Balmain Tigers entering a team in the same comp.

Well your first phrase says it all ….. and division resurfaces. Not a good move imo

Well written Tiger Steve. Just dumb Died Pretty.

More importantly its factually incorrect. Sheens wanted one football team in State Cup for footballing reasons. Pretty understandable given he was head coach. It was to play under Wests Tigers brand. Magpies wanted to retain brand and refused to not field a team. So Sheens decided he would implement his football decision by only fielding NRL contracted players in the BRET squad.

That is all it ever was. A football decision about team unity.

A move to identify with the Macarthur region at the same time as they take the squad to train at the at The Kings School? That's a mixed message if i ever saw one. Hardly a consistent branding exercise.

5 years ago this thread would be 150000 pages and locked by now.

4 pages and very few snarky comments leads me to believe that either:

1/ the joint venture is being embraced by all fans
or

2/ hardcore balmain or wests fans have wandered off into the sunset
\

\
\
EDIT: at one point I have to put my hand up to being one of the trouble makers.

I have never understood these comments.
I am a hardcore Wests Tiger supporter and I was a hardcore Balmain supporter. Wests Tigers are a joint venture of two old hardcore clubs.

I still live in hope that Balmain will once again have a new strong leagues club at its spiritual home one day so they can once again provide strong financial support to the JV.

Trouble maker? Nope. Wander off into the sunset? Not likely

Ahwell.always someone.

I guess quibbling over terminology is better than how much white is in the jersey.

Here's hoping the leagues club gets up and running an can help support the JV.

Its noticably a lot quieter on these type topics nowadays….i think weve all matured in this regard

I know I will be hunted down by all Magpies supporters for spilling the beans , but we Magpies are planning to takeover the joint venture and run as a separate club

Be afraid Balmain , be very afraid

Effectively they do now…WESTS Tigers however will be the NRL side ..no beans spilt ..peas maybe..

I hope that the WTs do plan to develop a lot more in the area,I honestly think that there is untapped potential in Macarthur, supporter and player wise..it needs someone with very good and savvy marketing skills to touch the interest of the people and give them something to support and be proud of…
How they do this is up to them..from my point of view,I travel to Campo plenty of times for the games there as well as going to the other stadiums,if you love a team or sport, you will travel to support them,so living in Sydney cant be all that difficult to get to games if your fairdinkum about it..

ps..I live in the Southern Highlands and its about an hour from Campbelltown,no worries to me,but I do understand that travelling really pees people off...

There's another thing too, that our newest adult supporters have never known Magpies or Balmain as primary entities. Being 18 seasons into Wests Tigers, there are young people who are now buying their own tickets, their own merchandise, well-adjusted to social media, and to them our heritage is written down in the books, it's not in their memory.

They are taking us along with them; in another 18 years those supporters will have their own kids.
