I will cop a caning for ayshford in the 2nd row but i think he will be a natural with a bit of bulking up and i think he will be almost as big as brad thorn, and he has great leg strength to poke his head through and get an offload,(and it allows moltzen who will pass to his wingers to play centre) Its time to start grooming him as payten isnt getting any younger. To solve all fb issues lote would be the best, big strong, tackle buster.support play and that will allow daniella who i think has a bright future to play on the wing.So if all works out moltzen in the 13 every week and ayshford to play both forwards and backs.

I'm sorry but I can't agree with some of these selections (even just as a trial).

Ayshford was killing it in the centres late last year, he will be in the number 4 for at least another coupkle of years.
We have two competent fullbacks in McKinnon and Brown, on experience McKinnon gets the one, Brown gets the five and Moltzen fills the utility role.

Pretty simple imo.

Official team:

1 Wade McKinnon
2 Lote Tuqiri
3 Blake Ayshford
4 Chris Lawrence
5 Matt Utai
6 Benji Marshall
7 Robert Lui
8 Bryce Gibbs
9 Robbie Farah ©
10 Keith Galloway
11 Liam Fulton
12 Simon Dwyer
13 Chris Heighington

14 Aaron Woods
15 Tim Moltzen
17 Sean Meaney
18 Alan Schirnack
41 Andrew Fifita

Utai? :brick:

Wests Tigers Head Coach Tim Sheens has named his team to play Sydney Roosters in the annual Foundation Cup clash at the Sydney Football Stadium on Saturday, February 26.

The match will see the long awaited return of utility Tim Moltzen who missed the majority of last season after undergoing a knee reconstruction. Moltzen has overcome an ankle injury that saw him miss last week’s trial against Parramatta.

Winger Matt Utai has been signed to a one-year second tier contract for 2011.
Wests Tigers will be looking to win the Foundation Cup for the first time since 2007\. Kick-off is 7.30pm.

1 Wade McKinnon
2 Lote Tuqiri
3 Blake Ayshford
4 Chris Lawrence
5 Matt Utai
6 Benji Marshall
7 Robert Lui
8 Bryce Gibbs
9 Robbie Farah ©
10 Keith Galloway
11 Liam Fulton
12 Simon Dwyer
13 Chris Heighington
14 Aaron Woods
15 Tim Moltzen
17 Sean Meaney
18 Alan Schirnack
41 Andrew Fifita

hmm not a fan of this team.I would prefer someone tall and fast on the wing like brown or one of our fijians not some midget from the movie gnomeo and juliet

Surely one or two forwards to pop onto that bench as well?

Great to see Fults and Gibbo named though

Utai will more than likely take on the role as this forums butt end for jokes and blame first taken on by Daniel Fitzhenry, then John Morris only to be regained by Fitzhenry. Hope Utai is thick skinned.

Both those players were crap, hopefully Utai is not as well.

Either way, I fail to see the logic in this selection given our other options. Brown should be on the wing.

Utai???
Looks like Ryan has little hope unless he is battling an injury. I beleive Ryan was our weakest link, but I wouldn't put Utai in front of him.

Is it just the way its listed or is Ayshford and Lawrence swapping sides of the field?

Lawrence has always almost worn the 4 even though he plays left side. Superstition maybe?

Here we go again, Utai, just like Moody and Fitzy to a lesser extent. How many rounds will it take for the penny to drop!! Okay its only a trail, but I smell a rat. If Browns is not injured their should be a royal commission .. Every year these brain dead selections raise their ugly head

well if anything, the fact that it's a limited bench means that we'll get a good chance to see how each player is going instead of seeing everyone running on and off every few minutes.

Going off last week's use of the bench we'll probably see Moltzen replace McKinnon for 30 minutes or so before moving into the halves for the final quarter of the game.
Meany will probably come on at fullback when Moltz moves to the halves, unless Sheens pulls Marshall? Hmmm….?
Bit of juggling, but it will be great to see how all the combos go.

Ditto the above comments re. Utai

Side note

Referees: Tony Archer & Tony De Las Heras
Touch Judges: David Abood & Paul Holland

Is BMM injured, or still recovering from surgery?

It is a trial, so i am willing to see what Utai has got. We know what Ryan can do, and we know Sheens is a fan, so I would not think this is a sign Utai has the spot wrapped up. Also, Brown's best spot seems to be at fullback, and IMO he doesn't seem very good when on the wing.

Kul,

How did Utai go in the trial last week?

Tagive was MILES better than Utai in the trial last week. I only hope that he hasn't been named over Utai because he will be eligible to trial for NYC beforehand.
