Wests Tigers team for Round 1

Great looking side. Let's give Utai a chance before we write him off.

Brown's best games have all been at fullback in my opinion. No doubt he will get his chance in the backline somewhere through the season. He looks the goods.

Utai will rip his old club a new one!

****Matt Utai the "Daniel Fitzhenry" of 2011!!!!…****

Saw Mitch Brown at the recent fan day and he said he'd be 100% for RD1…

Watch the Doggies bomb Utai all night....

Apart from Utai I'm happy with the team..!

ummmm no

Great bench (always struggled to say that in previous years). Not all that fussed with Utai, but happy to give him a go in the opening round, especially against an old club of his.

For those who didn't watch the roosters game Utai and ayshford switch in defense on the fourth and ayshford goes to the wing in the case that teams do bomb him. Sheens is a much better coach then anyone on here and he knows what he's doing. We just got alot of fans who don't like Utai.

Very happy with team but its obvious the dogs will target Utai

Could be wrong but didn't Brown roll or sprain his ankle???

Utai may have ran the ball well but from the clips I saw that Kul posted on here geez he got found out in defense a few times. He makes me nervous.

I hope Utai has learnt to jump.

His kick returns against the Roosters were excellent, however he was shown up big time defensively and he was not tested once under the high ball - his biggest weakness.

Aside from his selection, the side looks good.

yeah you got a point there if they are doing that My only concern then would be if they run it on last Ayshford's a far better defender than Utai .other issue would be kicking when they are changing over . Remember a game in early 80's when Wests played Parra and they were experimenting with switching Paul Taylor and Peter Sterling between 7 and 1 and Wests pulled off the win of the decade for them and beat them by utilizing that switch

One Appalling selection mars a very good side on Paper. We have some very slow legs at the back in McKinnon and Utai. I just cant believe the selection of Utai, we went down this track with Moody and it was a total failure ( and Moody had a lot more to offer than Utai). Anyone would have been better.

Awesome looking line up.

As for Utai, he is stepping in because we have some injuries. I didn't see the trials so I trust Sheens on this one. I am a big believer in players needing to have the mental game to play well, if Utai is pumped and looks at this like a last chance for his career, we could see a big step up in his game.

Has anyone seen the Bulldogs Team? Trent Hodgkinson has a pretty good kicking game, and if given room, I'm sure they will test out Utai…

So he will be defending against Morris & Goodwin?

He's what? 5'6''? He'd want those acme springs Wile E Coyote used to wear to outjump anyone from that starting position.

its the lineup i was expecting and its a good lineup except im not confident about utai's defense. we'll see how he goes…

Yeah Utai is a concern, but to be honest I am more concerned about Benji's mental state right now, the guy must be feeling like crap. However, if someone can lift him it will be Sheens.

Tiger99 is right against the roosters utai & ayshford swapped positions on the 4th tackle in defence & i think we have to give utai a fair go.

Cant add much to what everyone else said but I thought Latu would get a go infront of Utai on wing. Also I don't rate Brown as a winger really but I have high regards of him as a player and more as a fullback. I hoped it would be Brown at FB rather than Mckinnon but hopefully Mcks can prove me wrong.

Also, I hoped Moltzen could get some time in the State Cup, thats not happening either.

Anyways, not many surprises. Proud of this team and if Benji is in a proper state of mind, Tigers will rip up the bulldogs for sure.

UTAI may be utilized in another capacity when Moltzen comes on. ie Moltz to fullback, McKinnon onto Utai's wing. UTAI may be utilized as a meter eater within the ruck area.
