Tigers skipper James Tamou has called on his players to step up ahead of their Round 3 clash against the Knights.

Tamou is far from satisfied with his side’s start to the season and said they need to turn things around quickly.

Tigers have opened their 2021 campaign with losses against the Raiders and Roosters, but Tamou is confident they’ll put in a better performance this weekend.

“All of us need to look in the mirror and make some changes,” Tamou said.

“We’ve had some big discussion and we know we need to keep it simple and focus on our own game.”

While Tamou admitted the side needs improvement, he said it’s important to return to basics first as the club aims to claim their first win if the season.

“We need to go back to basics. We don’t want to overthink things. Everyone has to do their job and step up.

“We know we need to turn it up. We were there abouts in both games this season but that’s not good enough.

“The Roosters taught us a lesson on competing. They did it for 80 minutes and that’s what we’ve got to do.”

With the Knights winning their opening two matches, Tamou said this week’s clash will be a good test against one of the in-form teams.

“It’s always a big crowd at Newcastle because they love their team up there,” he said.

“They’ll be ripping in. They’ll be looking to go through the middle and we’ll have to stop them.”

Jeezus. How many big discussions have we heard about over the years?

Agree, enough of the mirror gazing and deep, meaningful conversations. It’s time to play some footy with a strong desire to win!

We were in the Raiders' game up until halftime when the dumb mistakes and penalties ruined our chances. We need to maintain that first half effort as well as cutting out the errors and penalties.

If we play like we did against Manly in the trials .. we would give most teams a run for their money .. !! I have no idea what has changed and what we are doing differently to what we did in the trials .. ?? But we need to find the form and quickly .. !!

And we're perpetually going "back to basics". Conjures up memories of hard fought losses such as that game against the Cowboys, maybe in 2015? The whole game was a 0-0 grind until the last 5 minutes or something, when the Cowboys scored.. Probably the most depressing game I've ever seen.

Recent history: The Knights outscored Wests Tigers 86-28 across two clashes in 2020.

It is time to start being a team that has guts, plays for one another and will not accept bludging.

Simple reason - Our boys were just completely overawed that they had to play two giants of the NRL , Canberra and Roosters. Brooks' low confidence game play has spread throughout the team. The team needs to gain confidence and then continue to build on it.

Tamou ..king Plodder ?

When do we shake that reputation of being a retirement home?

Dunno ?‍♂️
