watch Jake Simpkin leave to another club soon not even in the 21

What other club would he be starting in? His time will come

Jake Simpkin is contracted until end of 2022, he's not going anywhere any time yet, unless the club chooses to allow it. And don't give me "what does a contract even mean these days?" nonsense.

Liddle is off contract this year, Simpkin is free to negotiate at years end, we need to give Simpkin a go to see if we need to hang on to Liddle, in my opinion Simpkin is the better player and long term 9. But he will not hang around to play back up to Liddle, especially with a new Brisbane team coming in

Talau did well at centre, don't think moving him to the wing is the right move. Unfortunately that's means AJ stays at wing by default

My complaint about the situation is not the team selection, but the fact we don't have another genuine option for the wing who isn't a reserve grader or someone who's more a centre than a winger. Club should've planned ahead instead of desperately trying to sign Naden now.

If Cini can play NRL(?) he deserves a chance ASAP.

He's done well in reserves so far albeit at fullback

Cini was great at the FB in the last game :muscle:
Unfortunately, AJ has 'brick' hands and his kicks always end over the line! To me it is obvious that we have a better options at the moment, one is Cini and the other Gebbie.

Debbie hasn't played a game yet, only been here a week.

Woops meant Gebbie.

Debbie would probably have got the 3 points vs the Rorters......

So over this take. I don't care if his early set carries are good if he drops the ball every time it goes to him on the wing. He was so close to literally handing the game to the Knights on Sunday

If you think he dropped the ball every time it was passed to him, you didn't watch the game. I finished watching it for the second time last night and I think he dropped it twice - once the pass was almost behind him. Someone else said, every time he kicks it out - how many times has he kicked it. On second viewing I thought he was no where near as bad as people are making out on here. Not making excuses but he has potential and is improving every game. Remember he is not a winger (he is a centre come FB) but he is better than anyone else we have to put there. The people on here wanting to put Mbye in the centre, Talau on the wing are basically wanting this to be able to put Simpkin on the bench.

Too many want to make AJ the whipping Boy - even when we win.

I was the same. Watched it again and he did a lot of good things too.

It's a work in progress and way too early to give up on him.

I think , because of the expectation at those times in the game , and the emotion of “oh No , here we go again “ means , that the mistakes are fresh in people’s minds . His yardage work is good , his defence is OK , and he seems safeish , under the high ball . It’s just those catches at speed . I’d be pointing the kicking machine at right angles , or someone with a bullet pass , and just launching them at him while he runs onto it . At his feet , behind him ,at his head . It’s probably a confidence thing too , “oh no it’s coming my way , the games in the line “ . I reckon he will be alright .
Just tell him to stay away from Facebook . Twitter and the forum .

All this is valid, but the place to improve is reserve grade.

He is a winger...with bad hands. He dropped balls cold last year also. He also can't draw and pass like a good winger. He is a work in progress, but you can't carry -12 points in the NRL from one player.

Zac Zini was very good last week and should have been given that spot on form.

I'm over your take. Kepaoa made a glaring mistake, everyone saw it. It's debatable whether or not it was a critical mistake with Tigers on the attack.

But he made 2 errors the entire match, including that handling error. Tommy Talau made 4 errors and gave away a penalty. Tamou and Leilua made 3 errors. Nofa made 2 errors. And bearing in mind that wingers tend to be one of the most error-prone positions because a high % of their plays are under heavy pressure: early tackle hitups, defusal of corner kicks, sideline/corner pass receipts, pushed passes.

I'm not even much of a Kepaoa fan, but let's not allow ourselves to become preoccupied with one or two glaring errors and overlook the entire output from the player over 80 minutes. Actually, if you want to really give Kepaoa an 80-minute review, it's his defence that was arguably least effective - 4 tackles made, 3 missed.

Problem is he’s made glaring errors every game this year. And the previous year. The opposition knows it too.

Talau is quite error prone as well which is why I don’t like Kepaoa and Talau in the same team. I would argue that Talau’s dropped balls were from pretty ordinary passes.

Maybe , but we won , so it’s hard to justify dropping someone . And who knows if Zak has any defensive combinations built up with Tommy , and if that is anything like NRL standard . But yea I did watch Zak , last weekend and he was very good . Like I said previously his defence is a huge question mark . And in NRL , that is where the game is won and lost . But I guess you could say it’s also won and lost with controlling possession and field position , which means AJ isn’t cutting the mustard . I dunno man ! I say go after Corey Oates or Valentine Holmes to gauge his interest on coming back to Sydney . Not for 800k though

Chill. It's only round 4. He's played 3 games of professional rugby league having not played a game for 18 months.

He's a mile better than Mbye and probably better than Liddle at this stage. He should be in the 17 and it's pretty silly that he isn't.

If he could play Fullback,Wing,Centre 5/8 and half back he can take Mbye's spot in the meantime he'll have to bide his time in NSW CUP and keep gaining experience as a lot of young players have to do.

M'Bye doesn't play any of those roles you mentioned effectively anyway

What's the rush for simpkin. Both simpkins will be our future there is no doubt. We don't need to rush them in against the powerhouse teams that to me is poor management.

Dropping aj this week is literal back line suicide. Let's blood an 80kg cini etc against sivo and fergo that is stroaght up crazy

Also as a coach you want to give a player a chance. I'm not at this level but you usually give a ayer 3-5 games and then assess how they are going. You can't switch and swap after 1 or 2 games. This is obviously for moral and also to give them a chance to settle.

Imo these choices are fine obviously bj is way more seasoned and should be confident and comfortable in his role and expectations so I understand his dropping

100% he will leave for sure some club will snap him up

Nonsense. Based on what? Do you have any idea what is said behind closed regarding Simpkin and how he is regarded by the club?

Harry Grant played one FG game when he was 20. He was 21 by the time he played his second and he was 22 before he had his first full season with us. Get some perspective...

good hookers are rare
you think the dogs or other teams will not look at a guy like simpkin if we are not using him. Liddle is not cam Smith he will not do a Brandon Smith and wait behind him in reserve grade like Harry.
All it takes is one club to make an offer, cleary tried to get simpkin early this year in the daine Laurie deal.
we will not be able to hold simokin if we do not play him at some point you know what managers are like. Money talks

Grant was stuck behind arguably the greatest player to ever play the game.

Simpkin has Mbye in front of him.

Yes I’m sure his time will come but hopefully it’s sooner than later.

simpkin has Mmbye and Liddle no immortals or international players there
if Penrith or Titans come looking you would sign for 2023 and kick stones
it has happened to us with Aloia and matterson, and Mitchell moses
if we play simpkin on the bench in place of mmbye it takes away his incentive to look

He drops balls on the wing all the time. Did it so many times last year and can't defend. Dunno how anyone thinks he should be in the team

look at talau and put mmbye at centre
or go and buy Naden
