If it’s true it’s ridiculous. We have a much better chance of beating Penrith with him in the team than without him.

No sorry it doesn't work that way. That's the sort of culture that festered under previous coaches.

Right ok cool, thanks. I guess we should be expecting a very easy victory on Thursday night then with this super culture?

You were screaming blue murder over stuff like this and favorites etc. under the previous coach.

Now it's ok - they can't do the right thing - can they?

That’s right Russell, because the previous coach was putting in idiots like Rankin and Lovett every week at the expense of much better players.

With Fonua, fine him, make it hurt his hip pocket. Don’t punish the fans. This is an important game and we are far less likely to win without someone like Fonua there.

This is one game! Yes it might cost us 2 points, but the longer term vision is a culture that is demanding commitment, demanding excellence, demanding accountability.
This is the right call in my opinion.
I would expect Packer to be stood down if he was late, Lawrence - anyone.

I’m ok with the call on Mahe.
The line in the sand was there and it’s clear to all what Cleary expects.
I’m sure he won’t do it again.

IMO fining someone never works , this is why idiots still use their phones in cars it is just money, take there licence the phones will not be in there hands. I do not feel I am being punished ,after the way the club has been run the last decade I applaud the actions taken ….examples have to be made the players do not run our club anymore!

You might feel differently if that fine was $10k-$20k rather than a couple of hundred bucks.

Very silly from Mahe but I am not surprised. A line was drawn in the sand when Cleary took over and would look soft after the Suli incident.

I agree with it even if it weakens our team.

I expected more from a player that has been trying to get into first grade and then is given his chance.

Hopefully Mahe handles it like a grown up.

I hear what everyone is saying about culture etc, but surely for being late make him clean the toilets, fine him, make him cut the mullet, something that will remind him to be on time, but why drop him? all that does is punish everyone else, including us the fans.

Anyway, I understand the arguments, I just think it's over the top, we are going to be within 4 points either way of the 8 come September, and decisions like this will effect the outcome.

rant over.

it's hard to look at your teammate in the eye when you miss a tackle conceding a try. we've seen these guys turn up for each other no matter who makes a mistake and as great as it is, i hope those who make a mistake or two don't get marginalised

Wow was shocked by Fonua being dropped but can see why sounds like he was late twice in one day. Glad the team is saying this isn’t on. Hope he learns from it and comes back against the dogs with a big game

This will lead to a greater respect of Wests Tigers from players of other clubs, especially those players considering joining Wests Tigers in the near future.

1 minute late ?

10 minutes late ?

Fair dinkum ….

:bash:

Late is late.

For a standard to be set, it has to be enforced.

If it’s true it’s ridiculous. We have a much better chance of beating Penrith with him in the team than without him.

Yeah you'd think in this instance a fine would've been more appropriate !
Panthers +13

Fonua not playing means we'll get beat 13+?

TURN, IT. UP.

We need a coach who is in control and setting high standards. Great work IC.

No player is bigger than the club.

This sends a clear message to all players in the club that we are 100% professional.

We won't win this argument …the Boy Scout brigade are out in full voice .
Yeah Fonua stuffed up ...
But if this was a qualifying final would the same rules apply ?
I doubt it !

You can't underestimate the effect 1 player can have on the teams performance.

1 missed tackle from Kev. A big run from Fonua to get us on the front foot. 1 big tackle to force an error or stop the other teams momentum. These are the kind of moments that can change a game.

Take Fonua and Aloiai out and we lose our 2 main impact runners.

We're not gonna win and its partly because Fonua isn't playing.

Doesnt matter what game it is culture is built on respect/professionalism great move by Ivan and his leaders. Consequences and letting people off with a slap are ruining our culture as a society and Professional league must make hard decisions to have a healthy team.
