IMO fining someone never works , this is why idiots still use their phones in cars it is just money, take there licence the phones will not be in there hands. I do not feel I am being punished ,after the way the club has been run the last decade I applaud the actions taken ….examples have to be made the players do not run our club anymore!

You might feel differently if that fine was $10k-$20k rather than a couple of hundred bucks.

You seem to be missing the main point, that being, his peers and their five co-captains made this decision.

And if this weekends game was a qualifying final Fonua would be playing !

If the club were deadset serious Fonua wouldn't be playing ISP either this weekend .

5 co-captains LMAO …that's a joke in itself !

By taking this stand now, no-one will be late for a qualifying final!

I blame Super Coach.

People are more worried about their team than the Wests Tigers culture.

Know nothing of SC other than the occasional snippet on here, but it would not surprise that some are acting so childish over it.

I had Alex Johnson sitting on my bench to cover him, others have Richie Kennar. Here in lies the problem lol

I've got Peta Hiku covering him…but I need to re-look at trades now that Kikau has been benched.

His ownership is at a point where he's of no great relevance to SC anyway. Everyone that knows what they're doing has him in their team at this point as he's a high base point CTW who can go large and plays round 13, so everyone is in the same boat and will have to play a bench CTW. It's when you have a gun sitting at less than 5% ownership who gets sat out when their team is playing the Titans that you should get annoyed…

That’s right Russell, because the previous coach was putting in idiots like Rankin and Lovett every week at the expense of much better players.

With Fonua, fine him, make it hurt his hip pocket. Don’t punish the fans. This is an important game and we are far less likely to win without someone like Fonua there.

We won't win this argument …the Boy Scout brigade are out in full voice .
Yeah Fonua stuffed up ...
But if this was a qualifying final would the same rules apply ?
I doubt it !

There dealing with Cleary who makes the hard decisions. I would expect the same decision before a GF from him.
Half the team voted for the same thing.

Relax your rules at your own peril.

If it’s true it’s ridiculous. We have a much better chance of beating Penrith with him in the team than without him.

Yeah you'd think in this instance a fine would've been more appropriate !
Panthers +13

Fonua not playing means we'll get beat 13+?

TURN, IT. UP.

You can't underestimate the effect 1 player can have on the teams performance.

1 missed tackle from Kev. A big run from Fonua to get us on the front foot. 1 big tackle to force an error or stop the other teams momentum. These are the kind of moments that can change a game.

Take Fonua and Aloiai out and we lose our 2 main impact runners.

We're not gonna win and its partly because Fonua isn't playing.

So be it!

What would you prefer? The 5 leaders dejected because a team mate isn’t putting in. That sort of thing has a ripple effect.
If it was such a minor thing, do you think they would have approached the coaching staff.

Cleary would've approached the 5 leaders not the other way round .

if it was Fonua's 3rd time being late it would be understandable …
There's setting standards and setting standards ..
Way OTT IMO !

Three times - what sort of standard is that?

I'll tell you - letting them get away with it the first time.

Same in life Avo - if you don't have standards, you are just a part of a rabble.

If we lose - we have been true to our culture.

You are only thinking short term and not long term.

That's ok - you're prerogative.

Good call by the leadership group as long as they are 100% consistent. You have to set the bar high if you want to be a winner

As GEO says expect changes….....

Are you taking the Micky out of Geo or are you implying that Ivan is playing mind games or some other circumstance will force his hand?

Not this week..pretty sure they will be 1-17…

Thanks, part of me wants to see Fonua on the park for this game but I agree with the decision to suspend him.

There wasn’t too many changes last week either.

Ok.
So if Mahe plays where does the club and the credibility of the coaching staff lie.
A player has been cut loose for not meeting standards another for testing positive and Nofo, MWZ And Tui all been dropped for not meeting standards.
How can he play this weekend and their be harmony amongst the playing group knowing there’s exceptions to the rule.
Club made the right decision.
Doubt Fonua will be late again.

Yeh I am more worried about my ownership of Kikau now he has been put on the bench, you never know what Griffin will do with his forwards as he has a big amount to pick from.

Totally agree with the long term solution. ,Fonua will be missed, but Cleary made the right decision, Fonua only came into the side for the first time last week, we have won games with out him!!

Why you need versatility in your side if need be

Had Havili on the bench and Roosters back rower in the halves and picked AJ Bimrose last week , easy solved

Im sure dozens of players turn up late to training thanks to Sydney traffic. That's a given. If its out of yours hands, that's one thing. If you are too lazy to get out of bed, that's another.

was he too lazy to get out of bed or did he just sleep in ??
if he just slept in this is harsh not only to him but to the tigers fans who want to win
he was the difference vs the cowboys and why doesnt nofolouma get punished for not improving he still cant defend and reward him every week i dont get it

Leave the fans out of it, it has nothing to do with us. The club is working very hard to build a new culture, one that demands excellence and turning up to training late is obviously not keeping with the new standards. Disappointing yes, but hopefully it's a mistake Fonua doesn't make again.

it happens though sometimes its out of our control
ive slept through a few alarms even turned it off in my sleep

its not like he has a track record of this happeneing if he did well thats different
