I think Tommy could be a very good ball playing lock, similar to Cameron Murray but slightly bigger and faster. Plus he was a 5/8 coming through so has good ball playing skills.

TT - 189cm / 92kg
CM - 184cm / 90kg

Agree, posted that 9 months ago, not many agreed back then. He is a much better option than Twal imo.

Absolutely mate and with the speed of the game now I think that style of lock will become a much stronger link between the forwards and backs.

I see some criticism of the bench but I like it. Two front rowers, Talau to play back row (or centre if needed) and Mbye to play in the middle as hooker/running lock (and injury cover for 1,6,7). More value than 3 props and one of them playing 10 mins.

I don't really mind keeping Garner and Joey in the team for now because we won't win anyway. Better to save Simpkins for a game he can do something in and gain confidence from rather than losing by 30 on debut.

Like the did to Tyson gamble

Get past it mate! Average footballer at best despite your 1000 posts to the contrary. Geez!

I'm over it mate. Was just relevant to the conversation. Relax

I’m always relaxed.

Everyone in the team needs to be a footballer these days, the forwards need to be big little men as the game evolves. I remember when the players association complained about the danger of the scrums, but now they are complaining about the reduced number of scrums? The game will eventually have 3 or 4 speedsters on the flanks with 3or4 midfield managers and the rest will be unrecognisable from each other, resembling our current day centres.

A number of experts here, who are on the war path with Liddle, are at best silent or want Packer in the team in front of Musgrave, Simpkins or Tuilagi because some of them never played NRL??

How many losses before we see the Simpkinseses’s/s?

I’m most looking forward to both of them in the seventeen. I can understand madge sticking with the previous 17. If he is going to drop non performing players from round 1 then atleast 7 or 8 shouldn’t be there and that’s not going to happen after one game.

I do understand that philosophy and I hope Garner and Mikaele prove me wrong, but atm I have them classified ‘dud’

Accountability after one game? You need 3-4 games to see where we are at.

Musgrove will be back next week and will be taking a bench spot. Blore a couple rouds after that. Its actually not a bad side. If the side actually defends well we could go close.

Surely Garner doesn’t get 3 more chances, our season could be cooked by rd 4-5

No idea why he persists with Kepaoa. The bloke has feet for hands.

Agree. Apparently he had an eye operation in the offseason that was going to fix everything.

Took one round to see he still can't catch.

I don't really know who else we have at this point, need to sign a winger.

Helped Rorters get SBW though!???

I like Mbye as a potential impact player. Garner, BJ and AJ will have to improve or they don’t play round 3. Surely.

No impact in 800 days maybe he’s due

Twal played a very tradesman-like game, the no frills kind Bellamy would ask for, we could use a few of his boofhead mates to follow his lead.

Pretty strange bench, but Maguire has always had issues with bench selections/usage.

Can't believe Garner retained his spot, a ham sandwich would be more effective.

Or even an avo sandwich! 😁 Joey Leilua should’ve been punted also, sick of going into matches with this liability in our team.

Well I would add Brooks , Liddle and Leilua to that list. Another bad game and some of the above shouldn’t be there in Round 3.

Looking at that bench I would guess Mbye will give Liddle a rest and Talau covers injuries in the back line/back row..

Last week Mikaele played 35mins Utoikamanu 33 mins Tommy 21 mins and Packer a blistering 11 mins..

Packer
What a legend
How many meters ?

48
All time high

Not bad in 11 minutes

Bloke ran 48m in 4 runs in 11 minutes in a well beaten team but people are still bagging him.

Just to clarify.....30m of that 48m was off a kick return. So if you take that away it was 18m off 3 runs

But to be fair he was only on for 11m at a time when we were get run over and just defending

He made 6 tackles and missed none.

BORING BORING BORING.

No accountability what so ever.

How does Garner keep a spot in the 13?

Same reason Mbye keeps his spot in the top 100

and how many chances our 'unbeatable decoy' runner deserves?

I’m a bit worried about the mybe and Talau on the bench. I feel like the game is changing and more agile players will be playing at lock during the game. Tommy is a game breaker but they just didn’t know how to use him last game, tbh the attack was the worst I’ve probably seen in a long time by our boys. But I saw few opportunities to use Talau but instead they used him as a decoy or turned around and went back to the right edge... again. Give him early ball with some momentum.

Almost every time he ran the ball he hit the line softly, they held him on his feet and walked him slowly while their line was getting set. Looks good on paper with his post tackle metres and he was safe, but compare his play to that of Tamou and Joffa who are fellow props? I like him in the team for what he brings but if we’re looking for areas to improve we can’t just look at players who drop the ball.

A couple of times Mbye had a wonderful opportunity to give early ball to Jet and held it up until they became hospitals.
They will all get better with each game.

It's clear he doesn't figure in the club's plans for the future. If you look at our depth he is the only player with experience. It was him or guys with zero, less than 5 games experience or Chee Kam, none of which is a viable option against an experienced Raiders team if you're trying to win. He's not a good option either but the best of what we had.
