Beau Ryan - life member. The world’s gone mad.

Absolutely.

And here’s a scoop: he’s not funny!

Wests Tigers halfback Luke Brooks has tonight been awarded the Kelly-Barnes Award for the 2019 NRL Player of the Year.

Brooks was presented with the prestigious honour for the second year in a row as part of the club’s annual Presentation Night this evening at Le Montage.

The 24-year-old becomes the first player to win the club’s NRL Player of the Year Award in consecutive seasons since Gareth Ellis in 2010 and 2011.

After taking out the 2018 Dally M Halfback of the Year, Brooks continued his impressive form at club level in 2019 — registering career highs in try assists, offloads, tackles, kicking metres and running metres. The Holy Cross Rhinos junior was one of just four players to feature in every game for the club this season, the second year in a row in which he has played every match available for Wests Tigers.

Brooks narrowly took out the award ahead of Ryan Matterson, while Benji Marshall, David Nofoaluma and Alex Twal rounded out the top five in voting.

Brooks also finished as a finalist in the NRL Players’ Player of the Year Award, with fullback Corey Thompson taking out the award chosen by the players themselves.

Wests Tigers would like to congratulate Luke on his award tonight!

Congrats to Luke but I think Matterson should have got it. Also congrats to Corey - always gives a 100% and easy to see why he is players choice.

Congratulations to all the winners. It would be interesting to see how the forum's 3-2-1 totals compared to that of the coaches.

Impressive for Nofo to be in the top 5 when he missed several games early in the season. Corey is under-rated but it appears his peers value him. Both these guys play with real heart and that's not something you can say for a couple of others.

I expected Matterson to clean up but I think the judges got it pretty right; Brooks, Matto, Benji, Nofo and Twal were consistently good.

That Ryan gets inducted before Tuiaki is wrong IMO..

Congrats Heighington and Mr Binet

Who got plodder of the year ?

Chee-Kam..

Must be a typo ?

@WT2K Congratulations to Curtis Wilson and Felix Smith - very worthy winners of their awards! I look forward to their development next season.

I like Beau as a person unlike many here but really giving him Life Member really de-values the whole thing.. I mean did he ever even play City/Country??

Congrats Brooks. Still a lot of improvement to be done in his game as well though..
With Matterson, I feel he really plateaud after a good start post origin. He had one or two good runs a game as opposed to every run before. Still, thought he deserved it over Brooks.

Ben Galea, Anthony Laffranchi, Scott Prince, Pat Richards, Paul Whatuira, Taniela Tuiaki, Gareth Ellis, Lote Tuqiri, Aaron Woods, James Tedesco and Luke Brooks should all of been made life members before Beau Ryan as far as I'm concerned.

They are obviously having a lend of us.
