WESTS Tigers have received a double boost to their forward stocks with young props Aaron Woods and Andrew Fifita to re-sign today.

And the Tigers still hold hope they can win the race for the signature of New Zealand forward Adam Blair.

A day after the club locked up young centre Blake Ayshford, the Tigers signed 20-year-old Woods to a three-year deal, and took up the option to keep Fifita for 2012.

Club chief executive Stephen Humphreys told us: "We've always had a big opinion of Aaron and while he is probably getting more game time this year than we predicted, he's starting to realise the potential he's had. With Andrew we've taken up his option and will also hope to sit down to discuss a longer deal."

As for Blair, Humphreys said nothing had changed and the Melbourne forward's signature would be a bonus.

"I think Adam will make a decision in the next few weeks and we'll see what comes of it," he said.

Either way, the future of Bryce Gibbs looks grim with the club already granting him permission to talk to other clubs.

Cronulla have been linked with Gibbs and Tigers teammate Liam Fulton.

Woods has been held in high regard by coach Tim Sheens and labelled by a comedian at a recent club sponsors' function as "an armpit with eyeballs".

Excellent news keeping our good young players must be a priority for the club, hopefully this is the start and we can secure the ones we need at the club for the future

Great news signing these playeres, but i would still like to see them keep Gibbs & Fulton especially Gibbs, but if these players asked could they look elsewhere let them go.

Both need to be locked up long term.
Fifita especially because he'll have 3 years experience under his belt after next year and will be highly sought after by other clubs.
Dayum.

NRL like most sports is a business and successful sides attracts sponsers and prime TV games.

Everyone is sad to see Gibbs and Fulton asked to leave but you can't keep everyone and tough decision have to be made even if they are not popular. I hope they both go together to the same club as they seem to be best of buddies.

Woods and Fifita are the future and could be the main stay in our pack for the next 10 years.

I rate Woods highly and so glad we have locked him up long term. Future rep player if selectors will
bend the rules and pck WT players.

We seem to have a production line of young forwards coming through. I wish we had a production line of young centres coming through so Moltzen does not have to be picked there.

Looking forward to another premiership in the coming years.

If given the choice would rather keep either Gibbs or Fulton over Moltzen especially if we sign Miller long term . If we got a few injuries next year to our experienced guys it would be nice to have a little experienced back up .

Tigers hang onto Woods and Fifita

AAP Fri, May 20, 2011 - 8:41 AM

Wests Tigers have held onto two of the NRL's most promising young forwards, extending the contracts of props Aaron Woods and Andrew Fifita on Friday.

Woods' new deal will keep him at the club until the end of the 2014 season, while the Tigers have triggered an option in Fifita's contract for the 2012 season.

Woods has enjoyed an impressive debut season in 2011, making himself a valued member of the Tigers pack and playing seven games to date.

"I feel very privileged to be playing first grade and being surrounded by all of these great players.

"Being a local junior I'm extremely proud to be now playing for the elite squad, it's a dream come true really," the Balmain junior said.

Wests Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys was delighted to retain two important pieces of future Tigers forward packs.

"Aaron and Andrew are showing maturity beyond their years and are perfect examples of the depth we now have throughout our player roster," Humphreys said.

"They've both had a lot more game time this year which will only benefit their development and the club in the long run."

Congratualations to Aaron and Andrew on your new contracts . Hopefully we will see the full benefits of these fine future talents of the game . Without continually going on about the Blair saga if you look at the way we have signed both Fifita and Woods that Blair is not over the line just yet .

Really happy seeing the growth in character in Andrew Fifita this year.

When do we start worrying about poachers?

When he learns to run straight and hard from time to time and then the poachers will be there waiting

Great News!!
Gal, Fifita, Woods.
Cool!
All will end up playing SOO at least once in their life for sure.

Well done to the club administration for signing these young guns, hope they both fire against the panthers.
