LIVE GAME Wests Tigers v Melbourne Storm..

Live Game Discussion
Ok so based on that in those years they played 8 teams that made the 8 the same year and 9 that made the 8 the previous year. More than 50% for both which means they play top 8 teams more often then not?
What I see is not too many blockbuster openings of Storm V Roosters or similar. Mostly mid field games, whichever way you look at it.

EDIT - Personally, I would like to see those games 4 or 5 games in when both teams are starting to get serious fitness.

Yes that is a reasonable motivation for the scheduling bias. Spectator numbers have a major influence .

Everything he does is premeditated. You can guarantee every time he steps back inside he runs into a man never an open space. Does my head in
When a playmaker runs to the line it creates space and forces the defence to make fast decisions. When Brooks step back inside it is because there were no players outside him in position for a pass. There should be 3 guys there, ready to run into a hole, be a decoy, be outside the winger for a cut-out pass.
Unfortunately for the Tigers, the person most likely to create space is also the guy most likely to make a break when there is space and the guy most likely to be there in support. He is also the guy that sprints back and makes the tackle when one of the more clumsy players drops the balls then just looks at it on the ground.

We should punt Brooks, retire the 7 jersey and play with 12, that will teach the others to try harder.

I thought he was ok as well. He was being tackled as he was receiving the ball.
I think Hastings after a couple of more games and training sessions he is gong to get those legs of his toned up and be a bit more nippy, he's a bit sluggish atm. I'm not satisfied with the result and I'm not critical either, you could say that was our first hit out with the top squad gor 80min. More work on with defensive structures.
We basically need two lines of defense, one trailing to cover out balls.
To'a must come in for Roberts imo.

I’m going to answer my own question here..
We’ve only ever had one or two good, clever forwards in our pack for half the club’s history. Fix that and it comes together.
Thought that Blore was developing well last year, particularly in his defensive role and putting a solid 80 minutes together week on week.

Whilst not dismissing the contribution of Tuilagi last night, would rather that Shawn at least had the opportunity to compete for our left edge spot this season.

Hopefully he can do so next season if given the opportunity.

It's a good point. We were going to Brooks a fair bit but he played well. Does Madge have to get Hastings more involved ?

Hastings though doesn't have the running game of Hughes. He looked slow. I get what you are stating and I sort of agree but at the same time Hastings didn't just take the ball and make a bust himself. That is what Hughes did.
For me it was more that unlike the trial where he really shone against the chooks backups, Melbourne, just like they do to Brooks and all halves, worked on Hastings performance from that match and targeted him to often take most of his time away.

He will learn from that and to be fair, Hughes could do that because of lapses of concentration and effort that presented opportunities Melbourne rarely offers.

I am still devastated he is out for the year. I believe he was ready to make a huge impact and difference to our team defensively. As you said, he really was starting to develop nicely last year and then this major setback. The kid needs some luck!

We all want this team to be genuinely competitive in every game this year. We won't win everything (let alone against a genuine premiership favourite) but if we put in the same effort we showed last night, all year - we win more than we lose.
That has been the clubs biggest issue for many years though. We don’t back those efforts up. If only I had a dollar for every time we have taken it up to a heavyweight, only to lose to a team down the bottom of the ladder the very next week.

Agree 100%, if anything Knights may be the real test to see if we have improved next week. Again, we put together a full year of effort, regardless of the result last night, we will be in a decent position.

Yeah, I try not to lament those departed, but despite media talk around those missing from other teams, WT went into that match without several certain members of the top 17. Shawn included amongst them as part of half a dozen realistic options sidelined for round one.

Not happy with some aspects of the match and particularly squad use last night, but not without hope.

Blore is great! But we need 9 great forwards on game day. Wouldn’t it be a luxury to have the bench and the starters at the same high performance level, with another few not far off?

Great win by the boys.

38-6 win, with a great game from our half and obviously best player in the NRL Luke Brooks. Great way to open the season and look to be on track to capture our 3rd premiership in a row.

Don't believe what you see in MSM or the choreographed actors broadcast on fox and channel 9, we are the benchmark, and what other clubs aspire to.

I know some of you may wonder what I am talking about, but I am following the example seen in other threads. If you don't like reality, just come up with an alternate one.
