I reckon McQueen is right in the mix after his performances so far. Notice he is one of the only guys picked in both trials and the 9s. I think you will find there is a few battles going on this game and the team is lining up for R1 like:

1. Adam Doueihi
2. David Nofoaluma / Corey Thompson
3. Joseph Leilua
4. Moses Mbye (capt.)
5. Robert Jennings
6. Benji Marshall (capt.)
7. Luke Brooks
8. Thomas Mikaele
9. Billy Walters
10. Alex Twal
11. Luke Garner
12. Luciano Leilua
13. Josh Aloiai

Interchange:
14. Michael Chee Kam
15. Josh Reynolds / Elijah Taylor
16. Oliver Clark / Zane Musgrove /
17. Chris McQueen / Chris Lawrence

Out:
22. Alex Seyfarth
23. Tommy Talau

1 prop on the bench ?

If Aloiai rotates then yes.

He’s buckley’s imo. I think Seyfarth and Talau will be the ones to miss out on the 21 man squad against the Dragons. We can speculate all we want though. Things will change if there’s an injury or two on Sunday.

I think you will find that is close to our Round 1 team. Doueihi may obviously nudge one of the back three but thats it starting wise. Chee Kam probably the only lock spot on the bench with the following fighting it out for last three bench spots:

- JR
- Musgrove
- Clark
- Lawrence
- McQueen
- Musgrove
- ET

I would say all other reserves are in the mix for the 4 bench spots, except Seyfarth and Talau who are probably making up the numbers at this stage.

No chance for McQueen lol.

Musgrove a guarantee for mine.

interesting post

He's innocent bra ??

No Eisenhuth this week, but unless a lot has changed over the off season, I cannot see a round one team without either him or Elijah working in the middle.

Guys what’s going on with Talau everyone on this site said he was gunna be a star after one trial everyone’s scrapped him where’s the loyalty

He has age on his side,i wouldnt be to concerned about his future as yet.The trial against the panthers showed that he has much to learn about defence as he left Cini in an impossible situation on a few occassions.
Experience should fix his issues

Think Madge said Eisenhuth had a niggle out for trial available round 1

Don’t think anyone has scrapped him, he looks like he needs more time to develop and playing in trials is a part of that.

I think you’re pretty close but I reckon Nofo is the lock for the wing with CT and Jennings fighting it out for the other spot. Nofo’s starts to sets is too valuable.

Bench is interesting. I have:

14 - JRey (Cover for Walters)
15 - Musgrove
16 - Eisenhuth
17 - Taylor / MCK / Rowdy. (I have Rowdy just in front)

Digging that starting pack. A lot of power.

My only concern is what then to do with Huth and ET. For me they can’t both play in the 17 and neither of them can come off the bench. Although ET was pretty good off the bench late last year playing a hard running kamikaze role.

Also Aloiai has generally played his best footy off the bench.

Still a few things to shake out and I guess Madge having options is a good thing.

The control freak in me just wants an exact plan though!

Totally agree re; Nofo. But I think MCK is a lock for the bench.

The wildcard here is Walters. It’s a big ask but if he could play 80 that changes everything. From all reports he’s one of the fittest blokes at the club.

I’d love to see Madge give him at least 60 this weekend and see how he’s faring from that.

I think Musgrove needs to start round 1, but him Mikaele and Clark are all likely to be able to play limited minutes. Twal is the anchor

The backline will be interesting. Doueihi was solid in the trial without being special, He chimed into the backline and created a try with his pass, but was absolutely no threat returning the ball, or breaking the line himself as a runner.

Will give him a few games, but do not think he is anything special as a fullback.

Really like the team we’ve picked particularly the forward pack, think we will surprise a lot of people with just how good our pack goes this year.

On paper it’s looking to be the strongest team we’ve had in a few years - still not one that jumps out at you like the top teams but one that can really do some good work.

Like seeing Mbye at centre, fingers crossed Walters can play 80 at hooker or we get Grant because I’m not a massive fan of having Reynolds on the bench.

Four forwards is preferable but who do we pick? Musgrove, Chee Kam, Lawrence and ET/Huth? Even Clark could take the bench spot he could fill in at lock

The spine needs to play together before the comp starts...

AD should be FB so he gets time with Brooks-Benji-Walters...

Cory is a great bloke and Madge no doubt wants to reward him with "first shot", but it is a wasted opportunity if AD comes on sec half when the starting spine is off / soon to be off.

Can't see a place for Lawry this season unless we get injuries...

Hoping sentiment does not get in the road.

Pack looks big and mobile. Musgrove has to be there round one.

The problem with not having an 80min 9 is that we have to carry one on the bench.
Then we probably need to carry a player that can cover an injury in the backline as well as a forward rotation and Chee is the only player that can do that.
So there's 2 bench spots taken with a backup 9 and a backup back/backrower.

That leaves 2 props for the other 2 spots

I watched him closely last week. He made two poor attacking decisions which showed that, under pressure, he is a liability at this stage. In defence he was caught short a few times but lack of replays did not allow me to check whether inside defenders rushed the line causing a two on one against him.
I’m definitely not brushing him and one poor game is not the end of the world but no way is he pushing Leilua, Mbye or momirovski out of a centre position at this stage.
