Team list was supposed to be yesterday. Now it’s either today or Thursday. Tigers social media guys do an amazing job with everything else but we are last to announce everything and it’s annoying.

Actually it doesn't really matter, it's a trial.

You are so right rowdy, my mate from moorebank rams, told me warren MacDonald signed 3 guys to development contracts at the dogs and he reckons mark Hughes told him none of them will see nrl, Tyrone Harding, Steve winters Chang and another name I forgot , and he told me that MacDonald didn’t rate tommy talau, Jake Averillo and Logen Dillon who were all in the same side at moorebank rams even so called experts get it wrong from time to time

Yep it’s a tough one. We’re lucky Heath Gibbs went back to Newcastle otherwise he’d be taking up a spot this year too

Big questions to be answered in trial match with Panthers

Wests Tigers will take another big step towards the start of the 2020 NRL season when they face the Penrith Panthers this Saturday in the first of two pre-season trial matches.

After a disappointing NRL Nines campaign in Perth last weekend, Michael Maguire's side will head to the foot of the mountains determined to deliver a much-improved performance with a number of must-watch NRL players set to feature.

New recruits Adam Doueihi, Billy Walters, Zane Musgrove and Luciano Leilua will all feature in their first proper fixture for the club while experienced first-graders Chris McQueen, Josh Reynolds, Elijah Taylor and Michael Chee Kam will also take part.

In total, 17 members of the extended NRL squad will feature on the night — the first chance for many to stake their claims for a potential spot in the Round 1 team.

Perhaps the biggest question to be answered centres around the number nine jersey and the possible ramifications for several players as a result of who plays hooker in Round 1.

The retirement of Robbie Farah and a long-term injury to Jacob Liddle has opened the door for the hooking role to start 2020 with several players in the mix.

Leilua x Leilua: Double TroubleLeilua x Leilua: Double Trouble
Both Reynolds and Walters are expected spend time in the number nine jersey on Saturday and, along with co-captain Moses Mbye, are certainly in the running to start the year at hooker. Reynolds played the final month of the 2019 season there with Farah and Liddle out injured and has shown he can certainly do a job in the middle of the field with his energetic running out of dummy half.

Conversely, Walters is also capable of filling across the halves and hooking roles and comes in to this trial off the back of a strong individual NRL Nines campaign.

Young gun Jake Simpkin has also been named as part of an extended squad by Coach Maguire for Saturday's game and is certainly one to watch for the future.

The Queensland junior representative hooker is signed on a Development contract with the club through 2020 — meaning he can't play first-grade until after Round 16, but is definitely one to keep an eye on going forward with a chance to impress.

The arrival of Joseph Leilua and Doueihi seemingly locks down two spots in the backline for Maguire's side to take on the Dragons in Round 1 but the options around centre, wing and fullback spots are still wide open heading into the trials.

A player with a big future at Wests Tigers, Tommy Talau got a taste of first-grade late last year and will no doubt look to use Saturday's trial as a chance to push his claims for a Round 1 spot. The likes of Robert Jennings, Corey Thompson, David Nofoaluma — along with Doueihi and Joey Leilua — all won't feature in the club's first trial, which opens the door for Talau to show what he can do off the back of his second full pre-season with the first-grade squad.

It's not just the outside backs where competition for spots will be tight, however, with a number of forwards determined to get the inside running for Round 1 with a plethora of potential options for Maguire to utilise throughout the year.

While Alex Twal, Thomas Mikaele, Josh Aloiai, Chris Lawrence, Luke Garner and Russell Packer (injured) won't play this week, Maguire has named a number of key forwards for this game against the Panthers. New recruits Zane Musgrove and Luciano Leilua will both feature, while experienced heads in Chris McQueen, Elijah Taylor, Matt Eisenhuth and Michael Chee Kam will also see time on the field.

How those players mix in with the players who will likely feature against the New Zealand Warriors in Rotorua the following week will be fascinating to see, and certainly worth watching out for when Wests Tigers take to the field this Saturday.

The NRL trial match will be live streamed on www.weststigers.com.au.

Neither Dillon or scolari are on development contracts. I just hope these younger guys get a ball work session in with the nrl players named, otherwise they are up against it. My understanding is they haven’t had a ball work session together yet, and officialdom like every other nrl club won’t want to pay these blokes any extra coin to train with nrl as pr Ella agreement, ( I think it’s 500 a session for memory if you train with nrl but don’t have an nrl contract), so hope we do the right thing and give all these younger boys the best chance to put their best foot forward.. Also anybody know if Dylan smith is injured? 3 years on a development contract and didn’t play in mines and not named for the weekend?

Maguire doesn’t rate Smith at all, i think he’ll find himself in Ron Massey cup this year. Kane Bradley hadn’t been named either. I thought he went alright but apparently Madge doesn’t rate him either.

Also an update Tommy Talau has been added to the side for the weekend

Surprising he doesn’t rate them considering they’re on development contracts and we have heaps of other guys that could’ve been on one instead.

They were on them before he got to the club

Ah you’re right. 2019 development squad was announced a few weeks before Madge joined. He seems to like Madden and Seyfarth which is good

Big wraps on Seyfarth, will be shocked if he doesn’t debut this year

Wish he played more in the nines, he had one run and almost scored! With the lack of depth in our forwards it wouldn’t surprise me at all if he debuted later in the year. Madge has shown he’ll play the young fellas.

I'll bet vital parts of my anatomy Seyfarth debuts this season.

Front row/lock is definitely the position we lack in the most and if he’s as good as everyone is saying he definitely will debut.

That's not good. Particularly given that Bradley's development contract gets upgraded to a NRL contract next year. Another player we will be paying, taking up a top 30 roster spot as dead weight.

Don’t know about Smith (haven’t seen much) but I like Bradley. He went up from Flegg last year and scored a lot of tries in CC and according to my sources a great kid. Is he a winger? Not sure but I think he deserves time and a chance. Let’s not write him off. He’s big and talented and worth encouraging.

Even better, buy an nvidia shield, it's an Android TV media player and Kayo has a purpose built app for it. You can then use the shield to stream all your other services like netflix etc and you never have to worry about casting from a phone, wasting your phone battery etc.

Shield also plays basically every media type you might download as well, so it's a one-stop shop, just put it on your wifi and it will do the rest.
