What am I missing about Ben Murdoch-Masala?

NedKelly - i agree with your comments about Fifita…, one of the worst decisions i've seen and it will definately come back to haunt us.

Fifita will be a nobody in 2 years. The next Joel Clinton. He tried to change his game last night. He tried to run forward for a change. Instead of standing in the same spot pushing 5 defenders away for a 5m gain. He wastes his energy in doing this and does little in defense. BMM is recovering from a major operation and has played less than 10 first grade games. Who are you expecting him to play like? Ben Kennedy?

where has this 'bad attitude' idea come from? ive been told that the coaching staff love the kid and he really puts in at training.

as smeg said he didnt have an off season. his first game of the year was against canberra in first grade. he hasn't set the world on fire but he is only 20 and still finding his feet. its tough for a big powerful bloke when they come up against men for the first time. BMM is used to being the biggest kid on the field and trampling defenders with ease, it will take him time to adjust to first grade.

people expect too much too quickly from kids these days.

"SON OF SAM" that is a big call suggesting that Fifita will be a nobody in 2 years! I would agree that along with his 16 other team mates he was mentally lost in space (and he was injured early), but all that aside I am sure the Sharks believe they have signed a star of the future!

In respect of BMM NO I don't expect him to play like Ben Kennedy neither this year or next but the point I am trying to make is that if the Tigers future in the forwards depends on young Murdoch then I am concerned for our finals prospects in the coming years! Hope I am wrong as I more than capable of admitting my misjudgements.

This is true I believe he will be a great addition to the first grade side once he has a solid off season and more games…..... He does sow allot of potential....

Give the kid a break, he's come back from major shoulder surgery, hasn't had a proper off-season as others have mentioned and people expect him to come into FG and start trampling players straight away…Please. Give him a proper off-season where he can get stuck into the weights, lose some fat and get his base fitness level up. He'll be one to watch next season.

I agree. BMM is built like a brick outhouse. He's always going to be a bit of a project to get him used to the speed of the NRL. He's got a fantastic build though and he is going to be extremely good once he develops his game.

I must defer to people who have seen BMM lower grade form because he has shown zero in first grade.

As for Fafifta.. has he had a tackle break since signing with the Sharks ?

A polite way to say it would be that he has been quiet since then. Another way would be to say he's done stuff all and been a passenger lately offering little to no impact.

As for BMM, for the short term he's not going to produce highlights reel plays. His job is to make some hard yards and (unlike the majority of our pack) not get pushed back on impact so our playmakers can get some momentum to work with. But we're talking about a guy who's gone from schoolboy football to NRL in a year or so. He will take time but he's got the frame to be a very damaging forward.

Reminds me in appearance of Les Boyd. Let's hope appearances are not deceptive in this case!

I don't know how BMM reminds you of Les Boyd he would be at least 20 kgs bigger and 5 inches taller . If you mean his style he played Test football for Australia and for NSW and when he kept it together was an extremely talented back rower . If you ever asked Les why he acted like he did he maintains it was living in Sydney and struggling with being homesick and hating being in the big smoke .

What? He elbowed Darryl Brohman and gouged Billy Johnstone because he missed the bush?

U guys expect to much of 19 year olds. The kid has it, come this time next year u will be eating your words.

we are not the ones stating he will be a future star.
i don't watch u/20's,so i have no previous opinion on him.i only judge him on his performance in first grade.
so far i have seen nothing special.
why would i be eating my words next year?

the expectations are coming from everyone who watched him in lower grades.

seems there is a problem when someone doesn't fall in love with a junior.
it's like there is a competition to see who can predict the next big star to come from our junior ranks.
they get talked up,their weaknesses are overlooked and when they fail to kick on,they fall into the sheens hates him category.

Yea give him an off season training with the top squad and more game time I'm sure we will see what the tigers have been talking about just be patient

I have been watching BMM for the last 2 years in NYC and FG and I think he is a fantastic prospect. Given that Sheens has said that he wants more size in our forwards, I don't imagine him losing too many kg in the future. The boy is enormous, but, maybe not completely fit at the moment. But, we could all pay him the basic respect of getting his name correct….Ben Murdoch-Masila NOT Masala.
