What happens to Balmain now?

This is a drama… where does this place Balmain moving forward with a club development and where would or could it be built. One would think this has to be sorted fairly quickly not to many positives by all accounts sad to see all this happening to such a great institution.

I assume u mean the physical balmain tigers leagues club and not balmain football club? There is a difference for those on forum who may not know.

Balmain Leagues lose a few Million dollars a year. The situation is dire with no hope in sight.

I suppose that is the 64 million dollar question Bug ??
When do you draw a line in the sand and say enough is enough ??
Lets hope they can find a solution before it gets to that for the sakes all of all involved

like them or not, this would be an opportunity for News Limited to come in and show us all that they actually care about tradition of the game and help Balmain financially.

An opportunity News Limited will decline.

One would think it has been narrow mindness that has seen Balmain Leagues end up in this position… Operating within a saturated marketplace, making financial decisions based on future poker machine revenues and allowing blokes who 'were good at football' to manage the future/direction of a business. Blind freddy could see their traffic generators were drying up 20 years ago without Star City becoming a reality...

As to News Ltd, they dont care about 'tradition of the game', they only care about the future of the game? 'Tradition' cost them alot of money due to the ARL 16 years ago. Judging by what has transpired over the last month, and more so yesterday with the ARL doing a backflip, thank god News Ltd are still running this game!

In order to rationalize the game and make it a national competition there needs to be a lot less Sydney clubs.
News Limited would NEVER come in and support Balmain, which they would see as a sinking ship along with Western Suburbs. The only option I see for both these is in a Metropolitan Cup which was mooted during the Super League saga.

It would not surprise me to see multiple Sydney clubs face the axe in the future. Maybe more mergers perhaps.

Parramatta and Penrith must merge. They are both broke !!!

The Magpies have no more future than Balmain…
The WT brand should be the focus of the WT.
1 Team
1 Strip
Nothing more... Nothing Less!!

WT should cut there loses with Balmain and focus on the Magpies because lets face it thats where the WT future lies

As long as wests ashfield are willing to support a magpies nsw cup team then the magpies will stay alive as we know it. Sadly Balmain doesnt have such a helping hand. No leagues club and no money to run a nsw cup team (ryde eastwood now out of the picture). Based on this situation it seems the magpies are able to maintain a nsw cup side which will be the feeder side for WT. If wests ashfield decide to change their funding priorities then wests magpies will face its fate accordingly. Personally for me i am happy that the magpies brand is still alive. For balmain fans the tigers brand is well and truly alive within WT (remember that humphries has acknowledged that WT is often seen in the rugby league community as an 'extension of balmain').I also beleive balmain's existance has evolved from a jv partnership club to a club thats lost its individual identity by the dominate tigers brand of WT.

Have we actually got any official confirmation that Ryde-Eastwood are pulling out, it seems these claims are all based simply of heresay. At the moment Balmain Ryde-Eastwood are still the feeder team to WT, and until either club, or WT, advise otherwise, I think it would be stupid to discuss matters as though Balmain are out of the picture. I've also heard that that the Magpies are on shaky ground, not necessarily financially, but more to do with the playing and coaching group, but again I'm not sure how much to believe of that, simply because it was not someone from the Magpies club.

Ryde eastwood and balmain have def parted ways and ryde eastwood hawks will compete in 2012 bundy cup

I guess you have a link for that info….

Mrs T, Balmain will be completely funded and run by the Wests Tigers. NRL Players, coaches, officials, equipment, everything.

Wests Magpies wont get anything from Wests Tigers in 2012.

What an absolute BIASED disgrace. It just gets worse and worse every year.

As Balmain get poorer, they get more and more.

Wests get nothing.

Balmain are not completely funded by WT. Balmain Ryde-Eastwood are funded partly by Ryde-Eastwood, with players and coaching staff partly paid by WT.

Wests had the opportunity to have this with a joint State Cup side, but despite the majority of the board going for it, the Wests Magpies rejected it and decided to go on their own.

It is not WT decision not to fund the Wests State Cup side, but it was the Wests decision to go on their own.

And just so you know, WT now help with funding for all juniors from both sides of the joint venture evenly.
