What has happened to Sironen

I must say he really stands out when we are loosing though , young inexperience player he needs time to build his confidence and get comfortable in 1st grade

First year in the backrow, but he is still playing like a inside back. Needs to plonk himself in front of a highlight package of Gareth Ellis and see what you have to do in attack and defense if you want to succeed. He has to learn to run hard, fast and good lines and he has to increase his defensive workload by fifty percent.

The season is gone now, so send him back to state cup as a wake up call

Mate, my grandmother could make the City side. Some of the most average first graders over the yrs have played City-Country.

in case you haven't noticed, patience isn't this forum's greatest attribute. He desperately needs a run in NSW Cup but won't get it with this injury toll. Im led to believe his dad has a lot of pull at the club also, which would mean he probably wouldn't be dropped anyway.

this is effectively his second full year in FG as part of the top squad. Second year syndrome anyone ?

You have to have a good first yr to have second yr syndrome.

He must of had a good enough year to make the City side. He was no Sonny-Bill Williams but saw enough good things to give him the benefit of the doubt going forward. If he hasn't improved on this season by round 6-7 of next season then your criticism would be warranted. Lets not forget his only 20 years old

Do you think the surname does not leach into the NSWRL ..it is all political at that level .

Read through all the articles and listen to all the experts opinions about our young guns. People like Andrew Johns, Phil Gould, Brad Fitler, Laurie Daley amongst others have continuously mentioned Curtis as a member of our batch of exciting youngsters. Although i don't rate him in the class of a Brooks, Teddy or Moses i honestly don't think he's the dud you guys are making him out to be. He's struggling in a poor team this season but i've seen enough to think under a different set of circumstances and a better off-season he will live up to his potential and billing. But of course that is just my opinion

hahaha is she a winger by any chance ? The tigers could seriously use her right about now.. sign her up

i have no doubt it's in Sirro to be an awesome player , like Tony say's people are quick for criticism but PATIENCE is what is needed here . It's not just Sirro the whole team is playing disinterested .

Willing to give him 1 more year. If He doesn't improve next year get rid of him. Please don't use age as an excuse. He's bigger than most front rowers. Maybe he need a better coach to improve his game.

Or maybe when his body is a bit older and stronger, his confidence will grow and therefore his game improve.

With very few exceptions forwards need time in reggies for a year or more to develop

Very true and that is why I think Santi will play top grade in 2015, okay he might be a little on the light side but a big off season and he will fill Futons role in the team, big engine, big work rate and big ticker

Santi isn't as small as people seem to think. Isnt huge by any stretch but is a decent size (definitely bigger than fults)

Agreed. Santi wouldn't even be close to the lightest backrower in the NRL.

Just checked the stats. Apparently Sironen missed six tackles. Considering we were all worried about Moses defending in the front line, for comparison Moses missed 1.

Full team:

Rowe - 3 tackles - 3 missed
Paterson - 0 tackles - 2 ineffective
Lawrence - 22 tackles - 2 missed
Austin - 18 tackles - 1 ineffective - 3 missed
Hitchcox - 5 tackles - 1 missed
Moses - 15 tackles - 1 missed (wow)
Brooks - 12 tackles - 1 ineffective - 3 missed (made 3 1on1 tackles)
Woods - 22 tackles - 1 missed
Farah - 42 tackles - 2 ineffective - 2 missed
Galloway - 18 tackles - 2 missed
Sironen - 33 tackles - 3 ineffective - 6 missed
Halatau - 31 tackles - 0 missed
Blair - 20 tackles - 1 ineffective - 2 missed
Sue - 33 tackles - 3 missed
Seumanufagai - 19 tackles - 0 missed
Taupau - 15 tackles - 3 ineffective
Buchanan - 17 tackles - 1 ineffective - 2 missed

Pretty sure Sironen defended next to Brooks, so the three times Brooks got isolated and had to make a 1on1 tackle which no doubt led to quick play the balls are also a fault of Sironen's.

Little wonder he was useless in attack. He got targeted in defence and was found absolutely wanting.

Roach and his dad are good friends and their families are close. They live near each other too, so Curtis would hangout with Roaches kids a lot and stay over at each others place. Its all in the family folks! 😕 Only time will turn if he's any good, or just there because of his dads and Roaches influence. This info was from an interview Curtis did last year.

Lol Roach and Sironen would have absolutely no bearing on the selections. His surname might lend him a few more chances before getting dropped but he got to first grade by proving he was better than the lower grades. He carved up U20s the few times he had to play there and in the two games in NSW Cup he played this year he smashed them. His few games in first grade when he was a big five-eighth were actually quite good outside Marshall.

I think his main issue at present is a bit complex. He's recently put on a ton of weight (bulked up to get into the forwards) which has affected his speed and agility which has very much affected his defensive abilities. As a half he's actually quite a good defender, but defending in the backrow next to a rookie half is a totally different ballgame. The Roosters game planned to target him with quick interchanging passes and because he had a poor defender on his outside he got beaten time and time again either untouched or with a through the ruck offload. Not only did this tire him out and make him totally useless in attack, being repeatedly destroyed by his opponent would have ruined his confidence too. If you need any more proof, the backrower on the other side missed zero tackles to Sironen's six and made just as many. The Roosters started using this tactic on both sides of the ruck but it only worked on Sironen's side. Brooks missed a bunch of tackles, Sironen missed a bunch of tackles. Halatau and Moses missed 1 between them.

I reckon that Robinson probably identified this around half time so they went to him every time in the second half.

Sironen needs a very tough off season of defensive positioning drills, studying common backrow attacking structures and lateral movement if he's to make a fist of it as an NRL backrower.
