What I have heard about Potter

From 2 ok sources is that a few of the key players (who have performed quite well this year) don't rate Potter and some dislike him. They are miffed by aspects of his communication and man management. They see Potter has been very tough(un-nessesarily) on many rookie/younger players. However he (in their opinion) has not yet been nearly as hard on some senior players who have been letting the side down the weeks. He has left some of those really underperforming senior players alone and not held them as accountable as the younger blokes. This has left a few senior guys that do perform consistently miffed and angry.

The sources are a bloke who worked on the coaching staff at Balmain/Wests Tigers for a number of years and a person who is one of a senior players best mates.
I don’t usually like to get caught up in gossip and rumour. However these guys reckon Potter is as good as gone and that the key players will be happy about that. I must admit to looking at some press conferences and media appearances and detecting a disconnect between these players and their coach. No real glowing praise, no real approval, average body language etc

Im not saying getting rid of Potter is a good thing by any means. Player power is not the culture that you want to create. Potter deserves the chance with his own players an coaches. However these gys feels areas of his man management have been very poor and morale in the squad is very low. I feel for Potter and I think he is doing some great things, however if you lose the dressing room these is usually only one way things head.

Exactly what I've been saying. Mick potter is a good guy with great intentions, he may become a good coach but he is not getting his message across through one reason or another??? Horrible situation but better now than round 10 next year when we are running down the wrong end of the ladder

It has become clear from the last couple of seasons that;

The players run the club
The board has a jerky knee
Nobody of any note wants to step foot in the joint
We have limited money yet we throw it away recklessly
We won't be playing finals footy for a while

Teflon Farah wont be blamed. Everybody will just slate the departing player who has nothing to do with it. He has been blame for all other crimes against humanity, whats another one.

The only senior players who have performed well this year are Farah and Woods, so I guess it's their gripe.

In any case, Potter being tough on the young guys certainly hasn't done them any harm - they have been our best players most weeks. Perhaps he actually knows exactly how to develop and bring out the best in rookie players? Pity those who matter can't recognise his talent :unamused:

Can i ask, what gives any of our current players the right to demand a change of Coach. Its apparent this was a major reason for Sheens dismissal. So we'll bow to the pressure of under-performing players AGAIN. What if they feel the same way about the next bloke. Punt him too?. We are a rabble.

Maybe it is years of being babied by Sheens and the poor culture Sheens created that makes players feel this way. However they are not un happy about him being tough, rather they are unhappy at how he has let things slide with players that have been underperforming.

Shouldnt the captain take responsibility of the teams performance aswell? Or is it just easier to blame the coach. Even after Sheens has moved on we are still as weak as piss from top to bottom.

Have they communicated that to Potter? Or just go sooking to the board?
I had a feeling when Potter rested Farah earler in the season that one of them wouldnt be with us for next year. Instead of copping it on the chin he sat in the presser and just sooked. Poor leader.

Robbie is possibly my favourite Tiger of all time but you're right Gallagher. We cop a serve by the media for paying Sheens almost $9k a week for nothing, now were going to pay out another $5k a week to appease under-performing players. WHERE DOES IT END!

You might have a point there. The young ones are responding. I guess what these senior guys want is for Mick to crack the whip with a few of the blokes that have been bludging all year. Although some of these players are very experienced and maybe the coach has rightly given up on a few?!
