What if the Magpies were the sole NSw Cup side?

One last grab at staying relevant at some level considering that, financially, the Wests Tigers club is not beholdent to them for survival anymore.

All I heard from many fans was how the aligning of all players with one side would be terrible and how it would affect State Cup results. With injuries and call ups it has been a shaky year for BRET thus far but the rewards reaped at NRL level by having the guys playing in the system and together in one State Cup side have been there for all to see.

Good call smeg…
I'm a bit over the whole debate really, It amounts to nothing!!
Poor Old Maggies this, Poor old Maggies that...
I'm a Wests Tigers Fan, Tigers are fundamentally Orange & Black (Apart from the White Tiger Mutation)
So stop Whining about Orange and Black Jerseys... As far as Juniors?? Aaron Woods in not a Wests Junior, Curtis Sironen isn't a Wests Junior?? To say that ALL future tiger players will be from Wests is Ridiculous. I'm sure there are more... And will be more!!
There should be One State Cup side that works toward playing for one team with one goal... A Wests Tigers Premiership. END OF ARGUEMENT!!
Balmain / Magpies... It's all a thing of the past. The Name of the Product is Wests Tigers..... And the more uniform we become as a club the better!!
You old Maggies need to find something else to Whine about.....

I applaud WT for taking the stand this year… WT's realise the future of their brand isn't Western Suburbs or Balmain, but more importantly also realise they need a reserve grade squad assembled playing together week to week. It is my understanding WT placed thier cards on the table, and Magpies decided not to be apart of it. You got what you deserved... Your 2's didn't get you anything!!!

Making stupid threats to provide or facilitate other NRL Franchises only weakens your business relationship with the Wests Tigers, and they will further alienate Western Suburbs. But then again, 0 from 0 = 0... I was just being polite giving you 2's

Lawrence ACE, Fulton ACE Gibbo ACE Dwyer KING Fifita KING…..full house of Wests Magpie jnrs with more on the way....pfffft 2's

Fifita is a Wests junior now? Ok.

I don't see that as a massive issue in as far as retaining juniors if the Magpies were to be a feeder for say the Raiders State Cup side. Matts and Ball would still be available for scouting from. The Cubs program is still a viable one and the pathway is there for those good enough to be considered for NYC.

If a few fossils want to put their own ego and memories of a club above an already established pathway of development it is sad. I guess the club could just shift all scholarships to Holy Cross instead of St Gregs and concentrate on Group 10 who were so impressed with the Western Suburbs RLFC management that they seperated.

It shouldn't come to that but there are always options

I would agree with the prospect of having the State Cup side being the Magpies. But at the end of the day if this does not eventuate I would like at least a 50/50 equity and fairness in the joint venture.

Some people on here and on this thread in particular are all for the colours being solely black and orange/gold. They say that that is what Tigers are so Magpies supporters should stop whinging.

What rubbish.

Are Sea Eagles Maroon and white?
Are Dragons red and white?
Are Bulldogs blue and white?
Are Roosters red white and blue?
Are sharks blue white and black?
Etc etc,

All magpies fans want is equity and fairness. That is it. I love Wests and I love Balmain.

But fairness is the key.

Wests Magpies agreed to enter a team as a joint venture in the NRL not any other comp.

For people from the Balmain side of the joint venture suggesting Wests Magpies fans should shut up and grin and bare it is a bit rich for my liking.

All we want is equity :-
In colours
In game allocation
In player allocation
In area representation.
In equipment and facilities.

Equity and fairness. You have to remember the Wests group owns 50% of the WT. So all benefits should be equally shared.

Thank you.

Would you agree though Bug that a properly structured system with Wests Tigers as a side in the Reserve grade in preparation for a National competition being touted by the IC is a good option?

That and allow BRET & Wests to play Bundy Red Cup and allow out of NYC age players and later bloomers a proper path.

For clarification purposes as well Bug how much money does Wests Campbelltown give to WT or State Cup?

Can't seriously believe anyone from Wests would want all their juniors headed to Canberra or anywhere else - you got half the name of the NRL side guys( yes - it is called WESTS tigers) and thats where your juniors should end up.

I just don't understand really what the big issue is and why we continue to fight about it . Just make it fair and transperent . With the rosters let the coaches pick players same as you would in the schoolground unless the NRL coach wants something different ie wants particular halves playing together etc . Keep the two teams and stop the bloody fighting How hard can it be ???

It will surely spell the end of Wests in the State Cup if they're going in with this attitude of take it or leave it. A merged state up side would have made things far more transparent than the bickering that has carried on this season.

If the Magpies want to stand alone in the NSW Cup, the Wests Tigers can't stop them.
Remember who owns who. The Wests Tigers have no authority over what the Magpies do.

Now, if the Wests Tigers decide against giving the Magpies NSW Cup side any of its contracted players (like they have this year), why shouldn't the Magpies look at other options to fill its player ranks?

So… earlier you wanted the Wests Tigers to prioritise a Magpies team in the state cup at the expense of Balmain but now you're saying the Wests Tigers management should butt out and let the Magpies do what they want?

Do you want Wests Tigers assistance or not? Or is it that you want their involvement when it benefits you but not when it doesn't?

Please explain!!

What do you mean?

Willow are you against the one Wests Tigers State Cup side being the Wests Magpies?

If so, why?

Same old same old, bla bla bla.. pull ya heads in (…waits for the mature comment...).

The sooner this independent commision comes in the better. The dismantling of the NSWRL and the introduction of tiered levels from NRL down to the grassroots will only benefit the game.

Let me play my old tune again, damn this record has been played so many times...

I've said it before, the reason the football club finds itself in this position is because of there lack of vision and acceptance in the joint venture. Instead of aligning themselves close with the Wests Tigers (there child - that members voted for !) they carried on with the us vs them mentality... it is a fight they would never win as a entity with no power in the Rugby League world ... Balmain on the other hand got in bed with the Wests Tigers and clung to them like a leech.. the only way to put forward there traditions to the modern league fan.

The council, junior league & Wests Campbelltown only seem to want to be associated with the Wests Tigers. Wests Ashfield is nearly there also going on the cuts to the funding....

Anyways :blah :blah :blah

Meh, bla .... cbf.

:sign:

I come from the balmain side of the merger but can't they just let BRET have the first pick of players one year and then Wests can have them the next?

The same amount to the WT as Ashfield and Tigers Leagues put in.

None to state cup/junior reps.

Many thanks. So many conflicting reports of what went where over the years I lost track of the truth.

Hold on….some of you seem to forget we have a merged State Cup team already it's called BRET and players like Mullany Waters Akeripa Pearn already play for them.....it's already here...open your eyes ppl...

I followed wests magpies & now i follow wests tigers, call them all wests tigers & nothing else end of story finito, one team to easy.

This situation has only come up recently because Sheens has changed his mind about the merging. A couple of years age he was asked about merging both teams and he said that with two teams he has more talent to choose from for the weststigers. So something else is driving this bus. I wonder what?

Merging the two sides would be ok, with the juniors keeping their identity. However, having 34 players to choose from must be better than 17.

34 Players would be better to choose from Col. But it's also 2 extra Coaches to deal with… 2 extra games for Sheensy to attend every week!! He is committed, I more often than not caught him at the State Cup games last year BOTH MAGGIES & TIGERS (I attend both). Realistically, Even out of 1 side (24)... Maybe 10 (I'm feeling generous) will get a run in firsts... And that may not even be a permanent run!! So I would think it would make sense to have the best of them both in one team!! I can see Sheensys point, I would believe he gave both sides equal time last year... And the more time he spends observing the ressies... The less time he has planning our next scrum move!! I understand the Maggies probably feel underdone.... But the Maggies have The Rock, and Benny Jeffrey... Each with close to more NRL experience than all of BRET combined!!

and how exactly is that a fair deal to the joint venture?
