What it takes to make the 8

Haha haha of course JT is right that strong defence wins comps…that's no secret.

Doesn't mean for one second he knows how to fix ours. I don't know what you're trying to prove with all these stats. It's like you are trying to sugar coat how poor we have been.

Trying to quantify how much better we have to be. Trying also to show that there is improvement in some regards, which needs to continue next year.

If you are coming last, you either throw up your hands and say "that's it we suck" or you try to be constructive and think about where the improvement needs to be. Also to recognise where improvement has truly occurred, because a losing season need not be totally wasted.

Ta…so I was right about being wrong.....I have another question ..Has a team that has Won more games than they Lost in the regular season NOT made the 8...

Not unless you include Melbourne for being relegated in 2010.

The best that "bottom 8" has ever done is 50% wins, 6 times: Warriors 2014 & 2006, Eels 2014, Dogs 2011, Tigers 2009, Knights 2008.

I think it's a valid point - there are plenty of posts suggesting we just concentrate on attack and it'll sort itself out. History suggests otherwise.

Of course you're bang on re: whether JT can actually fix it.

The only positive for the year is that the young kids have gained some 1st grade experience and that's it. IMO.

You can't even say we've improved as a team from last year.

Ok I'll play devils advocate.

I think it is entirely possible that we are doing marginally better defensively this year than what our average indicates because we have a fullback who is excelling in last line defence and we have speedster who are scrambling well after initial line breaks have been made.

Have you got stats comparing missed tackles and line breaks to the average? I would be surprised if there is significant improvement in these areas. I would also be surprised to see our goal line defence stats have improved much either.

I want the D fixed as much as the next man but please don't tell me that losing by 4+ converted tries is an indication our efforts are improving. I have yet to see a game this year where I thought "sad we lost but that was an heroic effort in defence". More so I have shaken my head at ineffective tackles creating 2nd phase attack coupled with I'll discipline, granting field position, which is easily converted into points.

No I don't have those stats - I've yet to find anywhere where I can access historical player performance figures, as a punter. The NRL has the numbers, but they don't release to the public as far as I am aware.

Goal-line defence - I have never seen this quoted anywhere, not even in current season.

I think the Souths game earlier in the year (rd 3?) would be the only game to come close to it.

But yet again we still have a quarter of the season to go everyone

We win 4/6 and that changes everything , especially if we can continue to improve our defence and structures in defence and attack

Dunno if it changes _everything_, but it'd certainly tie off the season nicely.

Can't see it happening, but hope I'm wrong - starting with Friday night.

Just look at the Cowboys side and that would be a great template for a winning team. Excellent half back, fast backs, good full back and a big and mobile pack.

I stand corrected. You are right our pack stood tall that day and against a side that was a juggernaut at the time it was a loss that promised better days.

Still waiting though lol…

Not to mention a clever and speedy dummy half and a 5/8 who is constantly evolving for the better. Not an awesome defensive side but one who can cover the weakness brilliantly.

Why not 6/6 and a mid week semi final play off game?
Don't kill of all my hopes please happy.

Absolutely - the attitude and linespeed from those first few weeks hasn't really been seen again IMO.

And if we manned the Cows and the WTs how many battles do we win ??

Three at the most ,possibly 4

And people wonder why Taylor is struggling to get this side to perform at an NRL standard on even a weekly basis

I agree, those goal line stats could make interesting reading, they could shine a light on a few things

3 sounds right, Farah, Woods, Tedesco. Thats not the point. The point is you coach to your players strengths whilst slowly introducing new structures. You don't hamstring the strengths whilst making your weaknesses your only focus.

I'm not convinced if Taylor can coach well or not but I am positive that his approach to season 2015 has been a massive failure.

I am glad to see that the stats confirm that we are indeed improving. A blimp only that we are coming last.

We are going to win all of our remaining games, or at least 4 of them, they tell me. And the stats will show that we do it without the help of our most destructive forward Kapow and our most improved forward, Lawrence for the majority of those games. So exciting really.

That damn anomaly showing that we are the unluckiest wooden spooners in the history of the NRL - what was it? The best year for the crappiest teams? Whooda thunkit?

I will miss all the stats comparisons when we finally start winning because nobody bothers or has the inclination to compile stats when you are winning … It's a losers habit.

I'd take Jake Granville over Farah circa 2015.

Farah plays for penalties..always has, refs cottoned on long ago, he no eveolve.
Granville attacks, plays for metres…makes many, scores try
