We currently have a 55" and a 65" LG (several years old) but their system operation is glacial. We're probably due for an upgrade but I want to get something that is quick to use as well as nice to watch. My wife uses Apple TV a fair bit so use of the Apple TV app is essential.
FWIW, the vast majority of football gets watched on my 15" MBP or into a 32" Dell 4K monitor.
Generally most TV OS, split mainly between WebOS and Android, are pretty zippy these days. Haven’t seen those sort of complaints for a long time. Lots of processing power is needed for 4K so the OS requirements is small by comparison. Others may have comments on the performance of their specific screens.
For the Apple TV just make sure there is a HDMI 2.1/HDCP 2.2 input available.
