Crazy money

Not considering who and what you're buying....
Hard to say what is going on with publishing lately, Some big artists are selling while it's good...
Others are buying back at overs, Some are hanging on and some are selling half.

Hard to say with Bowie, He's not like a Nirvana, Or Pearl Jam... Where they have an ever emerging fan base...
I'm the generation behind the bowie generation and I don't know he's been prevalent in my time... Relevant yes - Because the guys we loved, Love him... But he just hasn't been that big a deal.

In a digital market, It's a tricky time...
No one knows if it's going to boom or bust with publishing / royalties - lot of speculation.
I'm sure the big names are well advised, and have been around long enough to do end up doing the right thing....
But I don't know if it's the big wigs trying to create a false economy, Buy everything - And then charge what they like for licencing and performance.
Everytime I've looked - I've never really found anything of any substance as to why so many are selling out...
Universal (I think) Has bought a big heap of music publishing in recent times, Daniel Johns just rounded all his up and is under the BMG Umbrella...
Interesting times...

Yeah. With the access to streaming nowadays you would think there would be consistent revenue from royalties. I seem to have only noticed the estates of deceased artists selling the rights. Must be tons of money in owning them

I believe there was, May have dipped a bit now....
I think the big guys Sony/BMG and Universal are trying to buy it all up

Then they can charge what they want for it....

True. Monopolising the market.

To a point... Depends how you look at it I guess....
Record Companies have been pirates / thieves since forever, So I certainly feel no pity for them....
But they've been getting shafted by Streaming, Radio etc.. For 20 years now...
My figuring is, If 1 or 2 companies own ALL the music, They can decide who plays it, where and when - And how much that costs...

Just my thoughts on it, Loosely looking at it from the outside.

You're right. They can then prob dictate terms to youtube/spotify/apple on fees per song. A lot of artists got screwed like that, I know Taylor swift was a massive advocate for years against music streaming companies not paying adequate costs.
Some artists even future sold their personal libraries as well.

This guy is one of the best voices in Australia right now.
Lyrics are hard too.

🔥🔥🔥

I wouldn't say voice, not much of a tune but talented maybe, everyone to their own and as long as you can connect with it that's all that matters hey.

This one is from another great album that came out in 1992. Even through its 30 years old it still stands up today as a quality album.

Sad news today for the over 65 brigade. Ronnie Spector, lead singer of the Ronettes, has died aged 78. The Ronettes were a great girl group of the 1960s. Their hits included "Be My Baby", "Baby I Love You" and "Walking in the Rain". I have no idea why but she married Phil Sector, who produced some of the top artists in the world and later went to prison for murder. He's still there.
Apart from being a great singer, Ronnie had a subtle sexiness about her. Vale Ronnie Spector.
