What to do with chris lawrence?

It is so sad to see what has happened to this guy. He has gone from being, in my opinion, the most complete center in the game, to someone who barely resembles a first grader. He should be a guy that ends his career with 20 origins, but that seems a mile away now.

I don't know if it is entirely his hip injury. He came back in late 2011 and played two amazing games against manly and saints. However watching him amble after cherry Evans and cronk like an old lady it's evident that he is being hampered hugely by leg injuries. I know he has had plenty of hamstrings troubles in the past too.

I'm pretty sure he is signed until 2016, and I would love nothing more then to see him get back to his best, or at least somewhere near it.

I was thinking it might be worth him sitting out the year, resting and seeing if that mends him. He is a complete passenger out there and to be honest nearing on a liability. It might seem a bit far fetched, and I can't imagine it actually happening, just worth a thought though.

Lawrence should get his own sub forum.

Best thing for him is to put him in state cup for a couple of months and see how he goes. There we can give him a chance to show us if he still has it to be an NRL centre, if he doesn't then we could try to salvage something and trial him somewhere in the backrow there.

Remember Josh Morris got dumped to state cup and came back a better player, I know the circumstances were different (attitude vs injury ailed ability) but dropping to state up may yield some positives over the medium to long term.
 
Has Moltzen officially passed the baton on to Rowdy yet ??

Agree with what everyone has says and as I mentioned earlier ,the last thing the club would want to do is let him go He seems one of the nicest blokes going around and to actually have to go up and tell him he is being let go would be so hard

In saying that the Tigers must seriously look at doing that if they want to get some money back for the amount of the investment they have put into Lawrence

Another 18 months of this and he will be worth zilch
 
It saddens me to see this bloke fallen so much , i think the only option for the club and Lawrence is the Backrow , but it's not as is if we haven't got enough of them .
He hasn't got the speed anymore for a centre.
 
I agree with Demonborger, the Josh Morris treatment could be the solution. Morris was absolutely terrible at the time he was dropped. When he came back, he was a different player. Managed to get back to rep level within a year.
 
I wonder if the Tigers have considered sending Rowdy to a track coach for a while in the off season to see if this would help and trying to drop some of his weight /bulk ??

His running style is completely different and it is scary comparing the bloke who has burnt off the Slaters dugans etc over the years to now
 
I find closing my eyes everytime he is near the ball works for me.

The saddest part about it is that this guy would be giving 100%…I don't think a stint in the reggies would help!!

Looking more and more like another early retirement for wests tigers...

I think he is carrying to much weight in muscle, which is just adding to the problem of his lateral movement from the injury.

Chris… drop some kilos... sacrafice a little strength for some more speed!
 
Start grooming him for the backrow. He's no longer an attacking threat at centre with his loss of pace, and defensively he is a liability as his lateral movement is simply shocking and not up to FG standard. While he apparently made a complete recovery from the hip dislocation and has had a couple of hamstring issues, his mobility is now a real issue as it is pretty much shut the gate everytime someone gets on the outside of him. He no longer really pushes himself when giving chase either.

So with Rowdy hitting the scales at 100kg, he's a backrow option and could potentially put on another couple of kilos if a permanent move to the forwards is on the cards. If he is to remain in the centres, I think he needs to try and drop back to 95-96kg and hopefully regain some mobility - if possible.

It's a sad situation though as Rowdy is one the nicest people you could meet, and one of the hardest working.
 
Iam the odd man out, I would stick with him,I think he is slowly getting better. His pace probably will never return to where it was but I still think he has plenty to offer.He can defend better than most, at present he is making some bad reads but some of that has been forced upon him by players inside him. He can also run over the top of smaller defenders.Its nothing to do with attitude so I dont see the point dropping him unless their is a player doing brilliant things in the lower grades.

I would give him at least to the half way mark of the season before making any drastic calls
 
Look at what happened to Ryan Morgan… Got dropped to the NSW cup, had horrible defence, didn't utilise his speed. Now look at him, great centre and his defence would be his best asset!

Would be great to see this happen with Lawrence. He's not old and we have seen his potential. I'm not sure if his injury is still hindering him or he's lazy or what, but dropping him for atleast awhile, especially based on his recent performances seems like a good move to me. He would realise he's no longer the go to centre and needs to up his game and a lower grade would be a good way to change his game if he still hasn't adapted from his injury.

I miss the way he played and am a massive fan of him. Has leader potential as well as on field, so would love to see him turn his game around some how again.

Could be the nest best option Happy.

A similar treatment to Josh Morris could lend a hand. I would consider dropping Rowdy now and invest in a track coach. And have him come back next year, maybe play a little reggies until then.

I'm with you but even more pro-Lawrence. I don't think he has been that bad. A couple of poor decisions and dropping off one chase to me is not something to get too worked up about.

I would like to see him on the wing. I think he might get some more space out a bit wider and his kick returns could be really good.
 
I hope they stick with him, I think its a combination of things, injuries & players not playing well around him. I think he will come back but it might take a while.
 
This talk of moving him to the backrow is absurd.

For me, the only other position I would consider him for is on the wing. But given his loss of pace, this isn't an ideal option.
 
Have been one concerned for some time.

I like the suggestion of having him lose some bulk andweeing if that helps.

He fatigues like a backrower at this point in time which could be why he gets caught flat footed a lot
