Where do you rate Moltzen as a half back

Assuming that these halfbacks are the strongest at each club out of the 16 halfbacks where do you rate Tim Moltzen out of 16

Mullen Newcastle
Hornby St G
Sandow Parra
Wallace Broncos
McCrone Raiders
Cronk Melbourne
Walsh Penrith
Hodkinson Dogs
Lui NQC
Prince Titans
Johnson Warriors
DCE Manly
Carney Cronulla
Reynolds Souths
Pearce Roosters
Moltzen Tigers

Personally I rank him 7th Behind Cronk , Pearce ,Mullen,DCE ,Lui and Johnson (in no particular order)

Where do you rank him ??

Cronk Melbourne
Prince Titans
Carney Cronulla
DCE Manly
Johnson Warriors
Sandow Parra
Mullen Newcastle
Wallace Broncos
Pearce Roosters
Hodkinson Dogs
Hornby St G
Walsh Penrith
Moltzen Tigers
Lui NQC
McCrone Raiders
Reynolds Souths

In that order. Plenty of room to improve though! I'd still prefer to have any of the players listed higher than him as our halfback at this stage. Moltzen may have a good record, but I don't think he was much of a halfback in those games tbh. Before someone mocks where I've rated Prince. One bad season does not make a player terrible. Prince will prove his doubters wrong this year imo.

Theres no way Moltzen is in front of Lui as a halfback. Feel how you want about him due to off-field issues, but when it comes to on the field, Lui is streaks ahead of Moltzen. Moltzen definatley in the bottom 5

Scott Prince was Dally M Halfback of the Year in 2010\. If you would read entire posts you might have already seen that I addressed it anyway. Scott Prince has had a fantastic career and I find it implausible to consider the likes of Shaun Johnson, Daly Cherry-Evans and whomever else you rate ahead of him as better halfbacks considering their lack of experience compared. The two mentioned are the only two I would consider possibly better than him anyway.

And no I rate Moltzen as a better halfback than Lui. Lui has proven nothing in his time at WT other than the fact that he learned (after a while) that it was better to be a passenger on the Benji and Farah train than try to drive it. If Lui can even get ahead of Ray Thompson at the Cowboys (which remains to be seen) he will find himself in the exact same position.

DCE is a premiership winning halfback, therefore cancels him out entirely of the arguement you are trying to make. Rookie of the yr and winning a premiership, there isn't a lot more you can do in your debut season. As far as Lui goes, the period early on last yr when he was injured we realy struggled, and the moment he returned we were a different team. See the Raiders game in Canberra last yr for proof. You say Lui proved nothing, well neither has Moltzen as yet. As for Prince, he's not getting any younger. While once a great player, in 2011 he was nothing more then a shadow of what he use to be, and considering he's not getting any younger, can't see much changing in 2012\. While there are a lot of guys who don't have his experience, at this stage in their careers they are much better options then a broken down, past his prime Scott Prince. There is no way in the world at this stage in his career and after 2011 that he is the second best halfback in the NRL. If he is, then it doesn't say a lot for the standard of no 7's in the competition

The standard of 7's in the comp IS poor. It wasn't long ago we had Alan Langer, Andrew Johns and Ricky Stuart all in the same competition. I don't think Cronk laces any of their boots and he is by miles the best.

As for your point on DCE; Scott Prince is a premiership winning halfback too mate. He won it with our club. He was battling injuries last year too and was playing a side that was simply not performing. He'll come good this year with a better side around him and no injuries (touch wood), we'll return to this discussion later. I still rate him second best in the game, but I do doubt I will rate him that at the end of the season because at least one of Johnson and Cherry-Evans will follow up their fantastic rookie seasons with another stellar year and usurp him.

I don't rate Moltzen as a Halfback. He is purely a 5/8 wearing the 7\. I haven't seen the Tigers play yet this year, but from the highlights I saw, Marshall is our Halfback…

As to rating this list, I'd have 1\. Cronk; a big gap to 2\. Prince; 3\. Pearce; 4\. Sandow; 5\. Lui as my top 5.

With all due respect Watto it's a bit early to rate Moltzen as our half when he hasn't played there on a regular basis since 2009.
Like you I haven't seen a trial but from the highlights he looks pretty good at the moment.
As for saying Marshall takes the halfback role - didn't he do the same last year when everyone was saying Lui was a 5/8 playing half?
In regards to Lui - still can't understand why some of you guys think he was any good in the first place.
His defence is non existent - and he was lazy for someone with obvious attacking ability.
GNR4LIFE quotes his game against Canberra (his only standout game all year) as turning our season around!
You forget that for the rest of the year he was a human turnstile bleeding points and needed us to take defenders out of the line to shore up his weaknesses in defence.
He'll be lucky to go any good with the Cowboys IF he is allowed to play out the season.

You clearly underrate Lui. His defense was poor (will only improve) but a) his kicking game was consistently better than both Marshall and Farah last year b) he always puts the defense in two minds when running at the line and c) his passing and ball playing is very good and will only get better.

As for Moltzen, I can only go off what I have seen and he doesn't play a traditional halfback role. He is definitely in the bottom five halfbacks on paper, though as they say the game is played on grass not paper. We'll see how he goes. For starters, every single one of those halfbacks has a general play kicking game.

Hybrid (sorry can't quote - it's not working) you are basing Lui on 'this will improve ' and 'will only get better'.
I watched him VERY closely in both 2010 and 2011 and his poor defence and positioning astounded me.
Halfway through last year it became so obvious that half of this forum were calling for him to get the chop - in favour of either Moltzen or Miller.
As for others saying Moltzen's a five eighth playing half and can't kick - let me remind you he played HALFBACK for the Junior Kangaroos and had a reasonable kicking game then.
Possibly it's Sheens telling him to leave the kicking to Farah (IMO our best kicker)and Marshall.
Why don't we all sit back and gibve him a chance - we haven't played ONE game yet and people are bagging him.

Farah has struggled kicking since his groin injury. He kicks out on the full more than anybody and sprays half his kicks. Moltzen has a huge boot on him. He'll kick a lot.

Personally I think it's too soon to rate Moltzen as a half. From what he has shown in trials, he is quick, his defence is ok, his passing game is good, his organisational game takes a backseat to Marshall and Farah, and he has no kicking game - Or at least one we have not seen yet. Having said that, I'm optimistic he will work out well in the halves but I think it will take a few games for him to feel comfortable there.

I wanted Moltzen at half before Lui got the gig. He gives good service to his outside backs and is a great support player. He has quick acceleration off the mark also. I think he will shine if he is given time and space. However if Chisolm and Miller perform in the lower grades he may have a bit of pressure to contend with.

Happy I don't know if I'd rate DCE in my top 5 either at the moment. I think he needs another season to prove himself. Although I don't entirely agree with Wattos selections I think Sandow has earned a position there, although I am still waiting for his game to fall apart. I have been waiting for a while and it hasn't happened yet.

Can't believe a lot of you don't rate Moltzen. He would have to be top 5.
If he stays injury free and has a good year I wouldn't even be surprised if he's in the mix for 1/2 back of the year.

moltzen is well behind at the start of the comp but lets see how he is at the finish of the year i think baring injury he will shock a lot of the knockers go tim kick a***

halves are more of a unit than ever so as long as they compliment each other and get the 1% things right they should do well
