WHERE TO NOW TIM?

**Under-fire Tigers coach Tim Sheens gave club bosses a verbal commitment to stand down if the team failed to qualify for this year's finals.**

The 61-year-old's exit is expected to be negotiated in the coming days, following Thursday night's board meeting about his future.

It's understood the overwhelming majority of Tigers directors voted in favour of taking a new direction, despite Sheens having two seasons to run on his current deal.

The board were concerned over how the Tigers crashed out of premiership contention, winning just three of their final 11 matches. The consensus is that senior players are stale after spending their entire careers under the same coach, and badly need a fresh voice.

Sheens stands to earn a further $1 million until the end of 2014, but the Tigers simply can't afford a full pay out.

Tigers officials are also seeking to raise more money or even shift him to an alternative role such as coaching co-ordinator.

It would help them if the Warriors offered Sheens the vacant coaching post in Auckland, but it's not clear whether the veteran is keen to relocate across the Tasman.

Missing the top eight has put a strain on the Tigers' budget, which was already stretched thanks to the financial woes of half-benefactor Balmain Leagues Club.

**But the team's absence from the finals has also reminded high-ranking Tigers officials of a promise Sheens made early last year, when his tenure was renewed amid speculation of a return to Penrith.**
**"Tim told people at the club that he would step down if the team failed to reach the finals," a well-placed Tigers source said.**

"That's now happened, and there's a feeling that he should uphold his word."

The statement was never made at board level, nor is it contractually binding.

In the wake of Thursday night's meeting, Tigers CEO Steve Humphreys confirmed Sheens's position was under review and that a decision would be made swiftly.

Should the Tigers reach an agreement with Sheens over the weekend, Manly assistant coach Matt Parish is favoured to lead the joint-venture next season.

Sheens's assistant Peter Gentle - now at Hull FC - is also a chance.

But the future of current football staff will be subject to review as well.

Unless he loses support from above, Humphreys will continue despite questions over the past month about recruitment and finances.

Is this what you're all looking for? Seems pretty plain to me. I really can't imagine that Sheens would've said this to the club bosses as a joke - he's not the type. He really should honour his word, imo.

Let me muddy the water some more.

I thought that Sheens was quoted in 2010 that if the team failed to make the top 8 then he would quit. They then went on to make the 8 getting beaten by St George one game shy of the grand final. If I also remember correctly all the players kept saying that this is for Tim each time they won a game that year.

Maybe all this recent "quote" stuff is being dragged up again and again.

Just saying.

baa baa gnr… care to explain how exactly the article supports ink?
where is the response in regard to benji honouring his word and leaving?
where does it actually confirm sheens even made the comment? it doesnt...
all it refers to is 'a club source'... in other words... someone (possibly with a grudge) willing to sell out sheens, for what was possibly an off beat comment made one day in the heat of the moment (if he even made the comment at all). if they are not willing to put their name to the claim, it holds no weight. its speculative journalism. the article may as well have come from a forum member.

anyway, im getting the feeling sheens might take the NZ offer. if they are offering bellamy 2 mil a year, sheens might be able to milk 1 mil out of them.

do you also think benji should honour his word and leave with sheens, as he publicly stated that he doesnt want to play under anyone else? its only fair to apply to one apply to all, right?

Obviously Sheens will not say anything till after the Test. So it looks like Humpty has to wait for that till he can make any announcement

Warriors..who knows..are they now waiting for Sheens to make a decision also ?

But whoever gets the Warriors job of course is only 2nd rate , according to Warriors.

You asked for evidence and you got it. Its a bit late to be calling audible's at the line of scrimmage now. The only reason you're questioning the credibility of the article is because it doesn't suit your agenda, plain and simple

You keep going on and on about this. Are you not aware that in the article where he claimed he cried when he heard Ryan and Heigno were leaving that he also said he would see out his contract and never wanted to play against the Tigers? How bout we let him honour that word?

Save yourself for the next set champ

It wasnt Benjis word. :crazy
It was a CLAUSE in his contract….you know, that legal document I mentioned earlier
He then signed a NEW contract, and had the CLAUSE removed.

Sheens apparently promised officials he would walk.....as I said, Humpty shoulda got it in writing, ( a light hearted tongue in cheek comment) bit difficult though when it was probably an off the cuff comment. Who knows in what capacity it was said or even if it was said...

Benji's honoured his contract
Sheens has appeared to not honour his word
Do you see the difference?
Im tiring of educating you.

You - MTD - were talking Benji and his what you call "word", but is in fact a clause.....LaT was talking Sheens and him saying he'd walk, I was conversing seperately with both of you on different topics (read back).....YOU BOTH confused yourself, confused the topics, got yourselve all in a lather and now look like utter cretins

Thanks to Flippedy....I couldnt find that article

MTD declaring himself some sort of victor....congrats mate, you ''win'' :unamused:

Interesting how you are willing to slam Sheens based on statement from an unattributed source published in a newspaper Ink. Doesn't show your lack of credibility when it comes to Sheens at all.

Please GNR, point me in the direction of this so called evidence you refer to. Give me a name of someone confirming the comments were made by Sheens, and to whom they were made to.

No agenda from this end. My comments are purely based on the facts of the matter: and there are none. It's all hear say rumour. Until someone puts their name to it, or Humphries confirms Sheens said it to him - which he is well within his right too (assuming its true) - this case is closed. It's as credible as Jennings coming to Tigers, JT speaking to Tigers, Farah confirming to a cousins friend that he's going to Eels. Same basket.

How can you personally swap back and forth from "we mustn't treat the media rumours as fact until the club confirms it" over to "media reported the rumour, there is your evidence, how dare you question the media sources etc". Oh right, because now it suits your position. Same old story with you.

I read that article when it came out, the issue isn't whether the media reported the rumour, its whether any single credible person can actually step up and say it happened. I already said that if I was wrong that I would apologise. Don't delude yourself into thinking something has been proven here.

On a slightly related note, this entire forum has hit new lows the last few weeks, people seem to be trolling or flat out baiting purely to amuse themselves or under some delusion that they are helping pass the time in the off season.

I'm not talking about the clause, it was removed a while ago (2010 when he extended his contract). I'm talking about Benji's word. Whilst on the footy show (since 2010), Benji has stated atleast once that he only ever wants to play under Tim Sheens.

So I'll ask you again: Should Benji honour his word (which was heard by tens of thousands of viewers - probably more) and step down from the Tigers?

Oh LaT LaT LaT, what Beau Ryan said months ago is irrelevant to this conversation. BTW it turned out i was right about the Beauster when everyone was telling me i was wrong so i don't really get your point

Its relevant because you chop and change when it suits your position. Its amusing to see the backflips when you want to argue your point and can't do it within your own rules.

Just don't come in and rant and rave the next time someone says "Blair on $500k".
