Which Channel would you like to see get FTA rights

Whoever will broadcast it in HD.

I recently bought an HD TV and the quality on Channel 9 games is rubbish.

One HD is by far the more superior.

Murdoch and last I heard packer are major stake holders in 10 why have they become interested in 10?? couple this with 10/1HD getting involved in NRL through their Monday and Thursday night footy shows and its fair to assume 10 will bid big time for the TV rights. 9 won't give up easy but they deserve to lose it. 7 with Stokes behind it could also be a bolter. The only thing certain is FOX will get some rights and show NRL and hopefully they will be allowed to show more live games add free (nearly).

With channel 10 not buying any of the available AFL games off of channel 7 I have. Feeling they will be making a big play for at least some of the games if not all of them.

The NRL will obviously try to maximise revenue and accordingly, we will see our great game carved up something along the lines of the following, ALL sold as separate packages:

SOO
Internationals
ALL STARS
NRL finals and,
NRL competition.

I think you will see all networks/fox bidding separately and/or combined.

I stand to be corrected but Murdoch/9 has right of last refusal? Monday night live is a certainty ratings wise.

I dont see why not theyre could be 4-5 FTA games on per week.

I am over the drawn out process of the 2nd Friday Night Game, furthermore some of the scheduled Friday Night Games have been a joke. They have parra v Roosters soon?

1 Friday Night on FTA 19:45
3 Games on a Saturday: 15:05 (Live FTA), 17:30, 19:35
3 Games on a Sunday: 1 at 13:10, 1 at 15:05, 1 at 18:30 (Live FTA)
1 Game on a Monday 19:15 (Live FTA - there is crap on commerical TV at this time!)

Or Scrap the Monday Game all together and have another game on at 15:05 Sunday and Viewer Choice it
I would like to see more "Daytime" Rugby League.

Apparently Network 10 haven't put in an offer to extend their deal on the current AFL TV rights, aiming to save the cash and throw the NRL a huge offer.

IMO that would be a great move. They already have two weekly programs focussing on rugby league. Have a decent crop of presenters who could double up in commentary - Adam Hawse, Andrew Moore, I even don't mind Joel Caine that much, add the likes of Ricky Stuart and Adam MacDougall etc and you've got a decent mix of players and media experience … Blocker's a bit of a boofhead though! Plus there are a few players heading in to retirement this year that I'm sure wouldn't look out of place in the media.
Another good thing is their shows actually focus on footy, not slapstick humour! Even when Ch 9 try to be serious on the Sunday Footy Show, Andrew Johns and Brad Fitler always find a way to bring the maturity level back down to primary school.

Gallop came up today and presented some stats on the state of the game, particularly focused towards media: http://www.nrl.com/nrl-ready-to-cash-in-on-tv-ratings/tabid/10874/newsid/64675/default.aspx

After watching that presentation, you can see why Ten would want the Rugby League ...

Ch 10 need something to lift their ratings, they're struggling at the moment and they are not getting ratings in Sydney and Brisbane from AFL. I think because of this they may feel they need to get some league matches on their network. When you look at the shows they broadcast particularly on a Friday and Saturday night, they need a boost.
It also needs to be remembered that ch 10 don't show motorsport anymore either, so they don't show any popular sports at all now. No AFL next year, no A-League, no Union, no Cricket, no Tennis, no motorsport, they have Netball and Swimming on One and Swimming doesnt rate unless Rabbits commentates.

So NRL looks like it could be the answer for them.

Whats with the new thing of Channel 9 lately constantly saing that their coverage is free? It may be free, but they are still stuck in the dark ages and treat the game with contempt

I hope 10/one HD get it as i live in Tasmania and the only live games we get are soo and finals (which is better then i expected tbh) sick of watching the games on my pc as it just doesnt have the same feel to it.

oh and we get storm sunday afternoon games LIVE on channel nine which was a shock

Friday and Saturday nights on One HD have stuff all programming. Movies, replays, and old series that Ten cancelled years ago.

By 2013 when the next rights begin, all/most of the country will have digital TV, so games can be shown on One HD/Digital Channels only.

The only thing I ask is that games are shown live. Channel 9 delayed their Sunday broadcast to 4pm so it would run straight in to the evening news. One HD don't have this need so hopefully they can show Sunday afternoon games live.
