Which team will get the 18th Franchise

Having worked there for a short time PNG will never fail. Huge companies will pour millions into the club will easily be the highest in sponsorship. Overseas employees are usually in resort style compounds. The popularity of junior pathways are setup should see PNG players predominantly filling the squad.

It won’t fail a geopolitical play to win the hearts and minds.
PNG players will flee to Australia as soon as they get a great offer.
Even a local, what would you prefer?

it simply wont work and its unfair on the taxpayers.
To be fair Jounieh Al-Galacticos, El Mina RLFC or Rabieh Wolves should have been considered. But as a world-recognised leader in predictions, who broke the Simpkin leaving news 6 months in advance, I can give you my personal guarantee that PNG will not only work, it will be a masterstroke.

Port Moresby is closer to Brisbane, than Auckland is to Sydney. IMO the most compelling rival bid was Western Australia, so I don't think distance is that big a deal.
I think we should go big.

Western Australia, unlike South Australia have more footy culture.

PNG, PNG will be balistic with a local team. I disagree with basing them out of Cairns though, why overcrowd townsville.

Knowing PNG locals, they will fly down to see the team.

I think he's saying that a PNG team based in Cairns didn't make sense.
It really doesn't.

Though I see how it could be an issue with a lot of flying in and flying out.
Plus it's PNG. I mean you don't fly unless you have a full tank and you don't let your tank go below 1/2 or 1/3 empty because that's where the water is.

A PNG team needs to be in PNG. though that's a lot of flying. YOu could compermise and have the team spend 4-6 months in PNG and the rest in Cairns. but they need PNG time.

If you're in the air coming from NSW/Canberra/Melbourne, you're only staying in the air another 60-90 minutes to go on to Port Moresby, so landing in Cairns doesn't really save you much time.

And on the argument that you will sign players to live in Cairns but nobody would sign to live in Port Moresby: I think the majority of the squad needs to be made up of Papuans. Chuck a few Fijians in and maybe a single marquee from Aus and a Pom looking for an adventure, and Bob's your uncle. On an NRL wage you would live like a king up there, and save a fortune - in Sydney a low end NRL salary still struggles to get you a decent house!

I'm thinking maybe you missed what I was saying. I'm not talking about distance from PNG to the rest of the comp. I'm talking about the entire team not even being based in PNG. It's fake representation and disrespectful to legitimate bids.

Yeah sorry, I misinterpreted. I agree with you on that, a PNG team based in Australia would be pointless. I thought that got ruled out though?

You will sign Australians to live in Cairns, sure.
The PNG blokes though will prefer to be in PNG... kinda. Ok it's complex.
So most will want a NRL salary and live in PNG because they will send money to one Tok's.

Yet they will travel to Cairns. Your NRL players, your non PNG players, yea they ain't moving to PNG without a stack of incentives.

I can see a Aus Half and yes other islanders in a PNG side. It iwll be crazy.

V'landys will sort it out when he has a break between the 7th and 8th race at Randwick tomorrow.

Simples.

Perth makes most sense to me if we want a true national comp

Prime TV slot Sunday night for footy tragics on the east coast

World class facilities ready to go

Probably wouldn’t be that hard to get a big mining company over there to back them aswell

With the talent pool stretched enough as it is though … you’d need a Bennett or a Bellamy to help them start from scratch. I’m not sure if either of those coaches have another rebuild in them.

They'll be financially backed no problem. The biggest issue would be VLandys dumping the bears on them.

Maybe it has been ruled, I'm not sure. If it has, I'm not convinced any NRL would want to live there. It would have to be nearly completely home grown talent.
