Interesting that Woods and Klemmer were apparently the only blues players to stand around for Smith's speech at the end.

There's an act of maturity and leadership right there.

Strictly speaking respect has to be earnt, considering what the Maroons did to our youngsters did they deserve respect? They elbowed and come in with knees at heads when the attacker already on the ground. As earlier stated for every dirty play NSW should have refused to have shake hands with that dirty player. And if many in the team are guilty then it is systematic and the whole team gets ignored - just like the whole Russian team are barred from the Olympics.

Fair enough , but it's a big man that puts himself above all that crap.
Woods and Klemmer can be proud of themselves.

And if a small player just had their nose intentionally busted or head kneed resulting in concussion one may think those compromisers as traitors or lacking morality or appeasers.

The NRL has painted itself into a corner with the 'cleansing' of SOO.

If player retaliation for a grub act has been penalised out of the game, then those grubby acts need to be penalised out of the game also. Why is it that we can see Corey Parker elbow Tedesco's head (which later earned him a suspension) yet all the refs observing the game either didn't see it (the bunker must have) or did nothing about it??

Having gone down this path, the NRL now needs to make a point that it should be all about the footy and nothing about the grub tactics. Whether it be a Thurston or a Parker or a Gallen or a newcomer, those players who indulge in cheap shots need to be penalised, called out for it and exposed or embarrassed out of doing it.

The players are obviously now unable to legally resolve it themselves and left unchecked it leads to frustration (resulting in brain snaps like Fifita's) or it will surface in other ways like this lack of respect thing. We need the players to once again be able to shake hands at the end of the game and feel the ledger has been righted to an acceptable balance, and that what happened on the field can stay on the field. The NRL (and some players) can't have it both ways.

FWIW, I am not actually a champion of how SOO has been sanitised, but it is what it is.

And back on topic, I take my hat off to Woods and Klemmer if it's true they were the only ones who watched Smith's speech and I agree that is leadership behaviour from Woods.

Woodsy is and has always been a class act. His, and his mate Klemmer's obvious respect for Queensland's series win and for Cam Smith's address only proves his worthiness to lead NSW. We are fortunate to have someone of his character captaining our team.

Not hanging around for the presentation was very disrespectful, but gee why should they have to stay there in the first place and not be celebrating the win with the crowd. Incompetence at governing body level is the problem, with another farce of not presenting the victors on the night of victory, rather than three weeks later after a loss. Very poor of the NRL to have not fixed this ridiculous situation.

On the subject of protection for your teammates, I was extremely disappointed when Jackson watched over his small prone five eight copping a ball to the face in our ingoal from an opposition big man and did nothing. For mine it should not have taken Fifita coming from the bleachers to put things right when others simply looked on.

I'm not trying to push his barrow, but Woods is the obvious choice. He is a club captain and one of the mainstays of the team. From the comments that are made around the team, it's clear he has leadership qualities that aren't necessarily obvious to the fans.

I think they would have gone Pearce if not for his array of indiscretions. Maloney is a possibility, but he will be 31 already. Who else? Cordner?

I really think they will go with Maloney short term 2-3 years and have Graham waiting in the wings. He's the right age will be a club captain next year but has already captained cronulla a number of times I'm sure.
