Who should Madge's assistant coaches be for 2022?

“I expect a decision at the end of this week between those two."

Flanno or Cayless. Guess we'll find out who Sheen's prefers Very soon.

Not sure how there is a race down to two when we actually have 2 spots available?

Sounds like we are after something different for the 2nd spot?

Anyone in the know....

Why is it down to just those two?
Didn't we sack 2 assistants?

Couldn't we just sign them both?

@Needaname beat me to it.

your mate will probably get one spot. We love a feel good appointment.

Cayless has left the roosters and has no better offer on the table (unlike Holbrook, Fitzgibbon or others).

The roosters do not let talent walk & Fitzgibbon has not moved to sign him.

Am I the only one hearing the alarm bells? Why would Dean Pay not be top of the list? Poor head coach working with the worst roster in the NRL (so will be used to the scenario he would find himself in) but has a good record everywhere he was an assistant.

Does Cayless have a history with Hartigan?

Because Pay hasn’t been interviewed.

Dean Pay as assistant coach would be an excellent appointment IMO.

Don't think so, he's coaching RMC I believe. Millard has joined the bulldogs.

I don’t know what his history is or even what he specifies in but he got sacked by the warriors and parra, 2 of the most bog average set ups in the league and then spends 2 years at the roosters which is one of the best in the business. I haven’t been able to find much on his influence apart from the fact all the kiwi and Pacific Islander boys really looked up to him.

so confusing hey. if it's down to the two of them then why don't they both become assistants? maybe they're promoting Lambkin or Gardiner internally and there's only 1 more spot left. that or Ryan Carr got the jump on both of them and is already a done deal...

Race down to two as Tigers search for Maguire’s right-hand man

The Wests Tigers have narrowed down their options to two as they look to appoint a senior assistant coach to support the newly re-signed Michael Maguire.
With the club confirming last month that Maguire would be kept on as coach, they’re hoping to put an experienced head alongside him as they strive to make their first finals series in a decade.
According to The Daily Telegraph’s David Riccio, that race is down to Cronulla premiership coach Shane Flanagan and Sydney assistant Nathan Cayless.
“It’s an intriguing one, certainly for the future of Michael Maguire going forward next year,” Riccio said.
“Nathan Cayless who was with the Sydney Roosters with Trent Robinson, he’s in the frame, so too is Shane Flanagan.
“There are several elements of that Wests Tigers board that see the résumé of Shane Flanagan, he’s a premiership winner and his consistent finals appearances with the Sharks is major for the Tigers.
“I expect a decision at the end of this week between those two.”
Cayless spent 2021 as a member of Robinson’s Roosters staff, while Flanagan took the season off to work in the media.
Reports suggest he is keen to re-enter the coaching fold.
The decision comes after Tim Sheens put pen to paper as the club’s new director of football.

My concern is if Cayless was that good why are the Roosters letting him go ?? They generally don't let the god ones go and considering Fitz is leaving for Head coaching job its strange

It’s a valid concern. There may be nothing in it? If the board at WT have narrowed it down to “Cayless or Flanagan” then it’s a no brainer. Cayless had a great playing career, is an ex international, a hall of famour , played until 2010 and is still only 43. His experience in head coaching roles and at the Chooks gives me the impression he is on the up! Plus, he is an ex prop.

If it’s between those two then my money would be on the guy that Sheens & the Board feel would be the next 1st grade coach in waiting. So that spels Flanagan.

Please bring in Flanagan. Yes he has been a villain in the past but he knows a footballer, is a great man manager and can slide into the top job without the fuss the WTs' attracts.
