Why are we so cursed? Look at what our team SHOULD be!

Key injuries are killing us again. This years team should be our strongest by far. If you have everyone at 100 percent match fitness we are superbly strong.

1\. Beau Ryan
2\. Taniela Tuiaki
3\. Chris Lawrence
4\. Blake Ayshford
5\. Lote Tuqiri
6\. Benji Marshall
7\. Tim Moltzen
8\. Keith Galloway
9\. Robbie Farah
10\. Bryce Gibbs
11\. Gareth Ellis
12\. Chris Heighington
13\. Liam Fulton

14\. Jason Cayless
15\. Todd Payten
16\. Andrew Fifita
17\. Arana Taumata

:'( This is what we are missing out on. Sorry.

I know it's just four injuries really but the difference it makes is considerable. The replacement names just don't compare.
Lui and Flanagan are okay. Moors and Brown haven't shown much at all and Fitzhenry? WTF?

How does Taumata get a run ahead of Lui…..

HAHAHA..and Cayless ahead of any other forward in the organisation....

Actually without injury it is doubtful that Lui would have been anything but halfback. Moltzen would be a bog average fullback and Ryan running in circles on the wing

Well at least one of these is incorrect because without injury Tuiaki would be in the side which would have either forced Tuqiri to fullback and Moltzen to half or Ryan to reggies but I know what you are saying. First round without injuries and Lui would have likely still been halfback.

IF Cayles was fit and IFhe had a full off season….Maybe, possibly he might be better...

IF

As of now he doesn't deserve a spot in the TOP 50

I can see why you would feel that way I guess, given that he was such a high profile signing. But in the last top grade game he played (I think it was against Parra) he didn't play that poorly tbh. He offered more in that game than I've seen Moors or even Payten offer in any of their games.

Injuries are an occupational hazrd of the RL team…just have to deal with it.

I remember everyone squealing over the off season about how much depth we now have, well as someone pointed out its only 4 injuries but that depth aint as deep as we all thought...people getting quantity confused with quality....the recruitment again has been average as it has for several years...thats what this thread highlites.

That's true in many ways. We DO have greater depth though. It's just not varied enough + our coach uses our reserves absurdly. Our front row depth is marginally better than in previous seasons, our backrow depth is almost incomparable and our 3/4 and halves depth is better than in previous seasons too. We just lost a few players that really can't be replaced by depth no matter how good it is and to even cushion it takes a coach willing to select the right players which he seems incapable of doing. Replacing Tuiaki with Fitzhenry just highlights this. He purchases Mitch Brown and Geoff Daniela and persists with Fitzhenry when Brown has clearly played the better first grade football so far this season. It's flogging a dead horse though.

We lost our best halfback option, our best winger and our best prop for large parts of the season. No amount of depth is going to lessen the impetus of this.

in times of adversity you look for the coach to make the correct team decisions, unfortunatly for sheens he hasnt done that this year or in years past.

Lui back is good, but IMO we struggled with him there at the start of the year, and being out for 6 weeks would not have made the cohesion any better.

how can you say that would be the best team without injuries when you haven't even considered tame tupou and how do you know that if we didnt have a different coach that mullany wouldn't be fullback?

Every year its the same and most other clubs get the same injuries. Its how your deal with them and in my humble opion Sheens dosnt handle them well at all.

Heh okay I'm sorry I should have added IMO but Tupou is definitely someone I forgot about.

Mate your kidding. The fact is we dont have the players to cover these guys, or we are too reliant on certain players so when there is an injury everything spirals downward. Every year we have a few injuries and it goes downhill. Its not like other clubs dont have injuries, ur never going to get anyone fit. You take out galloway and our forwards are rubbish. All they are are guys who try hard. Gibbs, Payten, and heighno all put in massive effort but have nothing to hurt any pack. Looka tthere forwards for guys who run hard a ttthe line. When you get forwards like that then guys like Farah can do better. But our fowrwards never get over the advantage line.

Why are we cursed.. Are you joking mate?
We have three injuries, and I dont think Cayless would be good enough to make the team even if he was fit. We are still boasting FAR MORE talent then most clubs in the NRL. Farah, Marshall, Tuqiri, Ellis, Lawrence. There are really no excuses.. we just have poor attitude.
