Was it :

a) The cash
b) Benji Marshall
c) The board / fans suppport
d) Loves the joint

(Multiple enries allowed) - I say a and b only, personally…Is coach salary included in salary cap, by the way?

Id say D and B but not just benji marshall.

Definantly not for money he would be going to penrith if that was his reason

if it was newcastle are almost a third of the way with bennett salary alone

No the coaches salary is not included in the salary cap.

None of the above alone. I honestly believe he wants to work and see these group of players go all the way.

Is Mulvi still alive

He probably topped up the Penrith offer from $400k to $500K per year!

E) Loves all the players
D) Loves the joint

Never underestimate the relationship between a coach and his players. This is testament through the re-signings of coach & star players for less money than they have been offered elsewhere. They are determined & committed to the Weststigers cause. Also, after reading hundreds of posts regarding Mr Sheens, no one has acknowledge the vast amount of money he has brought to the club through sponsorship dollars. Penrith were well a where of this attraction, which was evident in their offer for OUR coach.

Because he wants to make this forum more entertaining for people reading Bug's comments

I would say B, C and D.

He likes checking out Kimberley the head cheer leader and wants to see how angry he can make people by continually playing Moltzen at fullback Seriously though A and D

Because he can do no wrong in tigertown and in Penrith they may even wants some results for their dollars. I know its a strange notion but some clubs have high expectations we are lucky we have no expectations for our very high paid employees and that way no one gets disappointed.

Because he knows he can perform poorly and make atrocious decisions and not be questioned or sacked.

Bug - get a grip.

Do you really think that is what he thought. You have one perspective on his performance. He makes mistakes as will any other coach.

He re-signed, because the Tigers can actually pay his promised salary, and Penrith wouldn't cut a cheque upfront..

But seriously, I think there is unfinished business at WT, and methinks Sheensy genuinely thinks we have the player pool to do it at least twice over the next three years.

THE cash-strapped Penrith Panthers could lose the NRL's longest-serving major sponsor, with Sanyo placing an upgraded contract for the club under review.

The departure of Sanyo would be a crushing blow for the Panthers as the electronics giant has pumped in $6 million to the foot of the mountains over the past 12 seasons.

Continued rumblings of instability between the playing group and senior management at the club have placed the 2003 premiers under sustained pressure.

And after missing out on luring veteran Wests Tigers coach Tim Sheens on a $2.5 million four-year deal, the focus on the club will continue to intensify.

Sanyo Oceania's managing director Bill Crichton confirmed the company's 12-year association with the club would be reviewed when the current contract expires at the end of this season.

"Let me start by saying we've always shared a terrific relationship with the Panthers for the 12 years that we've been involved with them," Crichton said.

"We've always been very happy with the commercial terms for both parties whether the club has finished first or last and, in our long association, we've seen them do both.

"Like all our branding deals, every couple of years around July we look at what we're doing with those sorts of arrangements.

"So the current deal will be reviewed over the next couple of months, as will all our other commercial sponsorship arrangements."

With the Panthers' Leagues club posting $21 million in losses over the past two years, the end of the club's arrangement with Sanyo would come as a crippling blow to the football club.

Four weeks ago The Sunday Telegraph revealed how outgoing coach Matthew Elliott was owed $25,000 in wages for three months before Christmas, and debts to creditors were stretched to the extreme.

The Sunday Telegraph has been told the situation is so dire the Panthers' beer supplier refused to deliver before a home game this season until a debt was settled.

This is a very interesting question…..

I think realisitically given his age this is going to be Sheen's last contract. It would have been easy for him to take the cash and sail of to Port Macquarie/Sunshine Coast/South Coast (wherever) and enjoy his retirement. The fact is that the game has been good to him - very good to him. While cash is an important issue for anybody there were probably other factor as well.

(like it or not) he is considered in the elite band of coaches (GIbson, Fulton, Bennett etc) being a multi-premiership winning coach. Call it ego or call strength of belief but I think he believes he can win another premiership in the next four years. I believe he would like to retire with a record of 5 premierships which would rank him in the top 3 of all time. He may have considered the Panthers as not having the appropriate cattle to achieve this objective.

I see Tim as being an incredibly loyal person as evidenced through his often questionable selection policies and the Longmuir inicident. This loyalty extends to his players, his coaching and the club. If he thought that there was some doubt over who was going to take the helm and the effect this may have on these individual groups, i believe this would've been a serious consideration. When Tim decides to go, he will want to make sure the players and his staff are looked after and will want some say in the direction the club takes in regards to his successor.

Finally, there is the attraction of knowing the club. He enjoys a degree of autonomy that might not be available at another club. He obviously has a good working relationship with Humphries and the clubs most senior sponsor. Remember, when he came here he took on a rabble and has sorted some of the politics etc to a point where he can focus largely on the team and not other distractions that may have been issues.

IHad a team like St.George offered 2 million, I wouldn't have been as sure as to the outcome
