Why Does Melbourne Get Sydney's Game?

It is obvious that the NSWRL wants Queensland to keep winning the State Of Origin series, because the third game for next year is in MELBOURNE! Why?
What a snub to 83,000 New South Welshmen , because we only get one game again next year. I think this stinks!

Every three years it happens. It is just a renewal.

In 2016 NSW get two home games

When did it happen every three years?

According to the NRL Statistics, the games were played at:-
1990 First Melbourne Game 1 Sydney, 1 Brisbane, 1 Melbourne
1991 1 Sydney, 2 Brisbane
1992 2 Sydney, 1 Brisbane
1993 1 Sydney, 2 Brisbane
1994 1 Sydney, 1 Brisbane, 1 Melbourne
1995 1 Sydney, 1 Brisbane, 1 Melbourne
1996 1 Sydney, 2 Brisbane
1997 Last Melbourne Game 1 Sydney, 1 Brisbane, 1 Melbourne
In the period where a game was held in Melbourne, in one series Sydney got two games, whereas Brisbane got two games in THREE series.
This seems unbalanced to me. I live in Sydney, but I can only go to one game, again next year. Why are Sydneysiders discriminated against?

Aren't the folk north of the NSW border supposed to be the sooks?

Yes.And its those same sooks from the QRL who have sooked that they want a 2nd game every time and that NSW should give up there 2nd game for Melbourne and the NSWRL have stupidly listened and relented.Bit like a ref listening to a whinging italian or spanish soccer player whinging for a yellow card and actually giving in to these clowns.

Simple. NSWRL want to work with NRL and promote the game. QRL don't care and want to win the series at all cost and won't give up their game advantage.

Look at the venues since 2001
No imbalance…bar 2006

The NRL must have to be the worst governed sport on the planet .. From grass roots to the top

Until Victoria can field a SOO team, which will be the 12th as in never, State of Origin should never, ever be played in Victoria #noSOOvic

Imagine if the Sydney swans played the GWS giants in the AFL grand final .. Do you think the AFL would let that game be played at the SCG ?
..no way in hell !!!

They say its "to grow the game in Victoria".
How about starting by showing games live, promoting Storm games more and if they want rep games take an end of year Test there, not a State of Origin game.

Exactly. The excuse that it will grow the game fails when they cannot get the grass roots right and wastes any dubious momentum gained by hosting such a prestigious event. The AFL state of Victoria must be laughing their collective arses off at us. #noSOOvic

I don't have a problem with it …. Why not take your showpiece to a market you are trying to crack ?

Because you are never going to "crack" it. It is a total waste of a valuable event on the Rugby League calendar.

1) Not their decision whether its live or not, ch 9 decides that.

2) They tend not to promote any individual club's games directly, rather help each club do it themselves.

3) They do take tests there, just not this year for the first time in a while.

4) The amount of coverage it would get if it broke 100k at the G, one of Australia's most (if not THE most) iconic sporting venue would be astronomical. It would be a great step forward to sell the game to Victoria. Imagine if they took the attitude of, 'Oh those northerns only care about thugby league, dont bother expanding there.' They wouldn't have gotten anywhere in expanding nationally. And it doesnt affect TV at all, might even increase it since theres 80k more sydneysiders at home lol

Watching RL at the greatest sporting venue in Australia sounds pretty good to me.

Mike - tell that to the 55k who attended last time.

Tell that to the additional 30k who missed out on it.

The point is that these events in Melbourne do not generate any ongoing excitement. Once they are finished they are done. They have no meaning to AFL Victoria where as they mean a lot to QLD and NSW.

It was only 2 years or so since they last had an Origin in Victardia, a bunch of good old guys from work went as it went on to yet another loss, the reason why they go is purely $$$, it's not about promoting the sport as most of the fans end up coming from NSW & Qld anyway.
Seeing as next years game is at the MCG they are at it again, I've been invited to go along but it's 12 months to go and while I've never been to the 'G' I really don't know what's on the cards by then but go the Blues!.
While Docklands hasn't been a good hunting ground for the Blues at least we have have 50/50 luck at the MCG, remember it was 2006 and Brett Kimmorley threw that intercept that started the Canetoads on 8 in a row!.
