Hello everyone, as a recent convert to rugby league, and having originally come from a country that really doesn't indulge in the sport and having very little knowledge of league history, can you give me some good reasons why I should follow Wests Tigers. For the record, I have taken out membership (non ticketed one), my main reasons for the Tigers are 1) they were the first team to win the Premiership after I moved to the Southern Hemisphere in late 2004, 2) the skills of Marshall are to be admired (with me living in NZ I have seen a bit of coverage about him), and 3) I like the enthusiasm of the crowds at the traditional venues (eg Leichardt Oval). Once again my knowledge of the history of the team and grounds ain't great, so I'll be picking the brains of you folks throughout the season. Looking forward to hearing your reasons, and roll on the start of the season.

I'm sure there's a thousand reasons but I'll give you a couple.
1) History- even though Weststigers was born in 2000\. It is a JV between 2 original teams, now over 100 years old.
They were both battling teams , the players were battlers and so were the supporters. They've always been underdogs and everyone loves to see the underdogs win.
2)Exciting brand of football. You'll never see a boring Tigers game. Its not just Benji either. The Tigers have one of the best attacking reputations of the last few years.

baptised by Farther Murphey at St Augustine's, so it was a given

Hi Jenzed

Your three reasons should be enough for you to support this great team, and you will add to that as time goes by!!

And it is the Year of the Tiger. Welcome aboard.

Tigergran.

Even when things aren't going as planned on the field, I'm ALWAYS proud that the Tigers have a no nonsense approach to life outside of footy. Their work in the community might not make headlines - but it should. It is outstanding. On top of that, I am always relieved that we don't have the Carneys and the Birds of the world in the team, and if we do, management gets them in shape before they make the front page of the Telegraph.

If that isn't reason enought to be a Wests Tigers fan, we've got blokes named Farah, Marshall, Lawrence, Tuiaki and an array of others who are among the best to watch in the game.

I was a Balmain supporter before the merger and just always liked the way the Tigers played. The style has changed a lot since the Wests Tigers were formed and now I love the attacking brand of football the Tigers play. Some people mock the club for the community work they do but not me, I take my hat off to anyone who helps the community and others less fortunate than themselves. The club has a strong playing roster and is headed in the right direction IMO.

Hey JZD

I have 300 cousins that go for the Dragons and my church pretty much all go for the BullCr@ps.

Since 6 or so I couldnt bring my heart to support either team.

I discovered a cool team that was different and had an underdog spirit. I have been fanatical ever since.

My dad recentlty commented about my brain washing my 3 kids and He said " let your kids choose as I let you", My reply " I learnt from your mistake". My 10 month Girl Emma says Tiger…

There is something about supporting the Wests Tigers....

PS - Google Laurie Nichols....
PSS - Where you from Originally>?

First of all, welcome to the family, Jenzed.

Most of the answers above are great reasons to support the Wests Tigers. Another one is that the Tiger is the coolest mascot of all the clubs in the NRL.

You need to speak with my oldman jenzed…. after a few minutes you will learn 2 things...

1) An insane love and addiction to Wests Tigers
2) A true and real hatred for South Sydney

He might pop up in this thread if he remembers how to post... username is blackpearl

jenzed….the reasons for becoming a Wests Tigers supporter are obvious as many have already pointed out.....

So in fairness I feel I should give the other 15 teams a plug so you have ample evidence to make your decision.....as to Why Wests Tigers?

Manly Scum....have been trying to buy a Comp since their inception......they Silvertail/Fibro wars of the 70's is where you will find your evidence....An excellent DVD of those days is available...

ScumDogs....Their cheating goes back to 1975....look up Mick Luibinskas....The Premiers of '04 built that on the back of the Salary Cap rort of '02...plus their supporters are a pack of......

Storm.....who wouldn't be successful when 6 mill gets tipped in a Year no questions asked....Plus the playing style while successful is boring...led by chief cats Smith and Slater who will always be remembered for stomping the head of the legendary defenceless John Skandalis.....

Souths...their treachery dates back to 1908 where in an agreement to forfeit the Grand final with Balmain.... Souths actually turn up and kicked off claiming Victory...as hallow as it was....Not much has changed under the trusty eye of Rusty....How do they afford that forward pack under the Cap?

St George/Illawarra....So pathetic in their search for premiership glory they had to take over an entire Region...Their supporters are a weird mob...they like to turn on and eat their own.....

Parramatta......a Club with no heart and a bandwagon of supporters who come out only in times of success....disappear into the mist when times aren't so good...they burnt down their home ground after losing a Grand Final....

Penrith...Oh the chocolate soldiers....More heart break than both Wests and Balmain put together....Their fans don’t even travel to their home ground.....

Cronulla...What a joke of a Club.....First to jump to Super League....Has it’s hand out to the NRL administration more often than Oliver Twist.....plus their playing roster stinks....

Gold Coast....Not happy to foster their own juniors they tried for instant success by poaching two of our best in Prince and Laffranchi.....then had a crack at Robbie Farah when that failed....Arrogant CEO who thinks his Lord of the League......

Newcastle.....A lot going for them on the surface....but dig a little deeper.....the whole culture of the joint is questionable.....plus who want to go to Newcastle more than once a Year unless you really have to....

Brisbane...for a Club that has a whole State to choose players from ...plus the backing of influential Businessmen they could appeal....then again their Queenslanders’ so that rules them out......It’s no wonder they get huge crowds......

North Queensland and the New Zealand Warriors....... for obvious logistical reasons........make attending home games too expensive......

And finally the Canberra Raiders....it’s safe to say nothing good ever comes out of the National capital....

Well there you have it jenzed....now I hope you see there is only 1 choice....the Mighty Wests Tigers..... :sign:

Only question now is....Gold or 12 game traditional Upgrade.....

Because we did our time, took our chances.
We have gone the distance, we got back on our feet, just a team with a will to survive.
We've changed our passion for glory and we didn't lose our grip on the dreams of the past, we'll fight just to keep them alive.
We rise up to the challenge of our rivals, face to face, out in the heat we are hangin' tough, stayin' hungry.
They stack the odds 'til we take to the street and we kill with the skill to survive.
We will rise up, straight to the top, we have the guts and the glory.
We'll go the distance, we ain't gonna stop, we are a team with a will to survive.

I 'd just like to add my support for Geo's fair-minded and unbiased analysis (above). We have the two best players in the NRL in Benji Marshall and Robbie Farah. We win games by playing better more attacking football than our opponents, not by just barging and bashing and cheating (see 'Storm' above). We are all proud to be Wests Tigers supporters and you will be too. So get into the black, white and gold and you'll never look back.
