man we only have 1 premiership and daniel fitzhenry contributed in a big way, yet some called 'supporters' feel the need to diss him at every opportunity.
He may not be as good as he was previously but he scored a few pearlers for us in years gone by, I think people should lay off him.
I believe the "so called supporters" need to diss him at every opportunity is inversely proportional to the "true blooded supporters" patronising appraisals of him at every opportunity. Which is worse?
I will happily speak my mind on Fitzy and it is only the truth as at his "peak" he was prone to running around in circles, getting smashed and dropping bombs. I was NEVER comfortable watching him defuse any sort of kick in his career which says a lot. He isn't even in the top 3 of the mergers wingers in a decade. If the truth is perceived to be bagging him, well that's not really my fault. If that makes me any less of a fan, I'm only human. It must be difficult having the responsibility of being perfect. I just don't live in la-la land.
The only try Fitzy scored of any worth in 2005 was the 2nd half special against the Raiders in Canberra which was the result of him falling over, something only he could do. His 2007 effort against the Panthers in Penrith had me shocked.
Every time I watch the 2005 highlights dvd I often wonder what Matt Rieck did wrong. Apparently it was attitude, but the try he scored off the bomb at Brookvale in 05 and the tries he scored against the Knights were incredible.
Benji will crack it and deservedly so. He will be the mainstay of the club for years on end.
Your points all noted, and the tries you mention bring back some good memories.
He may not have been amazing from deep inside our own territory, defusing bombs, and as you say, running around in circles (which is obviously an exaggeration). Matt Reick was booted from a few clubs including penrith and the sharkies. Something was obviously up there - not much point in wondering what happened - we won the comp, obviously the right decisions were made by those that mattered.
Not keen to get in to a slanging match, but would like to make some points i think are valid.
I believe he was also on the recieving end of a piece of benji marshall magic at shark park in 2005, i also do believe he scored a few tries in the finals series and in the grand final - all due to good support play, and good finishing.
I also believe that those 4 pointers, and all he scored, deserve some kind of respect, because they are worth more than any kind of crap you can dish up on him on a forum on the internet.
He was an integral part of our team in 2005 that won the premiership, did he lead the try scoring tally that year? Hard to argue that, whilst he maybe wasnt the most skilled player on the park, he finished like a good winger, and statistically was pretty sound.
