Willie Mason [Discussion]

I hear ya Blocker … but ... Craig Fizgibbon was never a front rower either and turned into a pretty handy one in his latter years and lately we've seen Gallen evolve into one as well .

For Willie it's always been about his attitude . If he's ever going to be focused it's on his last chance at the big time . To keep training on his own wiith no contract tells me he's focused .

Stick to the topic please. This is not a thread for having a go at one another over who the biggest supporter is.

Worst thing Masons done in the past few years is a have a wee behind a tree.
Sure he's no Mother Teresa - but apart from that and doing a few harmless dumb things when drunk (about 10 years ago)
he's just a naughty boy.
And a bloody big boy too - plenty big enough for front row!

He's a second rower not a front rower! Blocker said so himself. He might be big, but is he really the answer/ stop gap solution were looking for?

Let's hope so - do you have a better idea?

mate we need someone to plug the holes and someone to be aggresive with the ball he wont solve everything but he sure as hell wont hurt. get past the willie thing were here to win games.

Maybe Roach thinks Mason is a 2nd rower but these days it's not about where you pack in the scrum. It's whether you play tight, edge or wide.
If Mason can play tight then he would be a useful addition to the Tigers.
We need some more players who can defend well 5-7 metres either side of the play the ball. And we need another who can run the ball up hard in that tight zone on the first three tackles.
If Mason can do that - and I believe he can - sign him up now!

Is this confirmed?
Skimming through the comments here it looks like people are missing the big picture.

He would be a liability to our team (and not just physically) when we have worked so hard to rebuild our integrity following scandals of the early 2000s.. He is not welcome. He does NOT fit in with our team culture.
I know I for one will be voting with my feet if he is signed, as a matter of principle. I would be embarrassed to be barracking for a team with someone like Willie Mason in our line up.

Beg your pardon? You don't know me from a bar of soap to pass judgement on my loyalty to my team. Of course I am a real supporter. I just have values which I choose to uphold.

Last time I checked Mason hasn't:

- Pissed on a war memorial
- Refused to pay a cab fare, then punch the driver in the face
- Resist arrest
- Belt his partner

Spare me the values rubbish. Some people really do live in glass houses.

Mason's only real crime is that he is a bit of a drop kick.

If we could look back at his time with French rugby, his time in england or his time in the nrl previously with the cowboys, ask the question what he could bring to the game? If Sheens didn't think that Groat and Woods were good enough, or going to be good enough, then why let Gibbs and Fifita go. Why risk the development of the younger front rowers, both as people and players, for two hard runs a game and virtually no workrate. Talk of signing a proven front rower is ridiculous. His last origin 5 years ago was as a backrower where he was most effective running at backs, not mixing it in the middle. **Please please please don't sign mason**

It`s all good and well for those of you who would like the Wests Tigers to be a team full of choirboys, but to have a team with a squeaky clean image off the field, will generally mean they play with little to no aggression on the field and that`s exactly what we are seeing at the moment.
We need players who want to hurt the opposition on the field, if that means they are a little bit outspoken or a little wayward off the field, then so be it, it`s either that or get used to finishing outside the top 8 each season!

Bird, Carney and Lui have all had dramas too, but they're all signed at the moment because they can all still play. Mason gets chopped in England, chopped in French rugby, chopped by cowboys, chopped by roosters….. maybe this guy isn't the saviour you idiots are touting him to be? You guys would all know more about footy then me though.... and more then Steve Roach too.

see here we go this is part of the problem at this club lets keep it all nice and serene smell the flowers this is the problem we dont have any mongrel in this side someone like gallen a hard head mason is not the soulotion but he is not going to hurt either we can continue to lose games a be a good clean wholesome club or one that wins and everyone is dirty on as long as we win i dont care. by the way steve roach is no harvard man either.

Wow I can't believe the hate. Never quite forgave Canterbury for owning Bryce that night?

Relatively speaking his offenses are minor.

His last year in the NRL was good enough for me. He was probably the best for NQL outside Thurston.

Welcome aboard big Willie.

I would have Mason in the second row with Ellis, Blair to the starting front row with Galloway and Woods and Groat on the bench. Mason comes off after 20 mins, Blair back to second row and Woods comes of the bench. Just a thought.

Is Mason signed or not???
The bottom line is Shines has no real idea about Talent because IFHE DID he would have WON many more PREMIERSHIPS THAN HE HAS!!!!!!!! facts my friiends not my opinion!!!!!
He is a joke & a PRETENDER!!!! hE IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH in comparison too BENNETS/JACK GIBSONS & CRAIG BELLAMYS BACKSIDES!!!!
ffs!!!! RESULTS ARE ALL THAT COUNT!!!! winning!!!!
i AM A WINNER BECAUSE i am retired at 54 years old & have plenty of money that u guys couldnt poke a stick at it!!!!
Earned I might add By hard work & brillance of judgement my friends which Shines lacks big time!!!!!
MASON MUST BE SIGNED!!!! :sign:

Wests Tigers will decide within days whether to offer controversial rugby league figure Willie Mason a lifeline.

Chief executive Stephen Humphreys last night confirmed the club had met with Mason and expected a decision to be made ''one way or another'' this week as to whether the former Bulldog and Rooster would be offered a deal for the remainder of this season. ''I have met with Willie and his manager,'' Humphreys said. ''It was a good, positive meeting, and we've both got some things to think about over the next few days.''

The fact that the Tigers have been prepared to publicly state their interest in signing Mason would suggest the club is strongly considering offering a contract to the player, who recently returned to Australia after a stint at French rugby union club Toulon.
