Couldnt help but notice this got a little mention in todays tele!!

Last week they said he was no chance for the tigers lol….I'm happy for him to join we have made alot worse signings over the years. Pretty sure it will be sorted in the next fortnight

Depends on what Willie wants $$$ or a chance at a premiership and his legacy. I know that out offer is low, around the 120k mark but the vibe is yes he is a big chance to sign with us, only threat is penrith I believe, heard parra pulled out last week

Is there a deadline for the offer? You'd think that if we were keen on signing him up that we'd want him at training as soon as possible?

According to one of our players (spoke to him after training on Friday arvo), Mason hasn't been talked about at all.
And he didn't seem to think there'd be enough money in the cap.

SG, is the 120k offer like Utai's was last year, and in the 2nd tier players ?

When you do the sums though, surely their would not be much cap space left. Payten, Gibbs, Flannagan & Fifita not being with us would be a $600k difference in the cap. We have bought a couple of nuffies to replace them and Adam Blair. If you believe what they say, blair cost $500K which is what Payten and Gibbs cost combined.

Im scratching my head, I hope Humphries plays within the rules and the cap.

Don't forget Lui was down to be a part of this years cap as well. His departure may have freed up some space.
And the money from Dwyers contract as well, which wouldn't fall under the salary cap due to his inavailability.

Smoking Gun I don't want to question the plans for the club as they are far more experienced in these matter than I will ever be , but when I hire a new employee that I have queries about I weigh up the pros and cons

The cons must heavily outweigh the pros in the case of Mason both off and on the field and he would be a high risk signing even if we only paying 120k imo

My greatest concern would be him getting involved in something off field and us risk losing sponsorship dollars which is worth probably more than on field with the ramifications that places on the brand that is the Wests Tigers

lol… I highly doubt the financial position of the Club is discussed with the Players.

I think what he means Watto is players have an idea of other players worth and yes they most certainly do discuss what they think another player might be on just like we do. And like us they have probably come to the conclusion we are close to our max.

Like I said previously Mason is No Chance.

I'd believe Blair is on $500k, but how much is attributed to the Salary Cap is anyone's guess. Its not that simple.

As to 'rules'… Well they are open to interpretation Bug, and I'm sure Humpty has read the rules over and over to ensure he interprets them as what's best for the Wests Tigers!

I don't remember him stepping out of line at the Cowboys? Or at Hull. Really what was the last thing he did that landed him in serious strife? Not trying to defend the undefendable, but i'm struggling to recall the last thing he did wrong. Was it urinating in public?

Yeah but remember the interviews he did in regards to Sydney clubs not signing him Fraze and as he is Willie Mason the scrutiny that will be placed on him back in Sydney will be far worse than it will be in Townsville or in a country where he is barely known

It only takes one problem and ….......... who knows He could tear the place apart

In defence of Mason and his indescretion of urinating in public, a high profile member of our coaching staff was arrested not too long ago for the same thing.

Mason's main problem these days is Twitter. He is an absolute tool on it. Go into his account and read what he says.

If we eliminate his twitter account, he would be a great signing.

Yeah I know what you mean Happy. I don't think he would have to do much for the media to assemble a group with torches and pitchforks ready to tear down (wests) tigertown. With our already "frosty" relationship with the telegraph I'm sure they would have no problem finding or creating an issue with Willie, regardless of the circumstances or the severity of any potential incident itself.

Yep agree Bug But he was a extremely respected cleanskin and Willie Mason is far from that

I'm not disagreeing that it wasn't a major thing but we know how Mason reacts when he is backed into a corner he seems to lack responsibility or remorse in this area

If we knew Mason was GUARANTEED not to do something wrong he could possibly be a good signing

whats the problem with signing him as long as its on a low wage, and you tell him up front where the line in the sand is if u cross it once your gone. It does not need to get more difficult than that.
