Willie Mataka's time is ..........

Mataka is class. I hope he can find a place in our backrow. But Sheens'll almost certainly be using Rhino, Ellis + Payten or Fulton at lock.

He could get a spot on the interchange which would be very good.

Surely Lawrence is still carrying an injury?

I have never seen anyone in the comp run Lawrence down so it just amazes me his not fastest over 60 metres.

Yeah just like McDonnell and Tagive were meant to be the fastest at the club in earlier years but Lawrence was faster than both of them. Maybe McDonnells legs were too quick for his feet because half the time he would trip over himself.

Mataka is still young and has a lot of football ahead of him. I would love to see another St Gregs boy flying the flag, but I am not sure if he will be able to find a regular spot in the side this year.

He is. Had a moon boot on not that long ago and is recovering.
Lawrence's speed is absolutely incredible for his size. His build, size and athleticism would've suited the game of the 80-90's era perfectly. Sheens needs to stop using him like a battering ram or he will end up being the next Geoff Toovey after his career the poor bugger.
BEFORE - pretty boy looks:

AFTER - head like a smashed crab:

Although….i did actually see him get run down ONCE in 1st grade, as i had been making a note about the same thing about NOBODY ever running him down in open space. But i can't recall who it was.

eric grothe ran him down in the play before the first beau ryan try in the big parra game.

was unusual for lawrence. he made the break and had moltzen unmarked on his inside and ayshford marked well by hayne on his outside. he got caught by grothe, panicked and passed to ayshford. if he passes to moltzen, moltz scores under the posts, its 10-0 and ryan doesnt get injured.

very unusual for lawrence to make a bad read like that in a game.

lucky he is Human then isnt it

I sure hope that Willie can make the step up in 2010 as the player to replace Rocky Trimarchi as the local junior who just never made it, at least with Rocky's debut he scored a try in a winning team while Willie had his debut memories thwarted at the SCG with super coach Sheens strange rotation theory, the game that cost us a spot in the Top 8!.

Two comments..I dont think Lawrence was fully fit for most of 09,which is the only explanation for Grothe running him down.
Secondly,if Mataka really is the second fastest player in the club,&given he's too small to play front row plus hes about 10th in line for second row spot, maybe Sheens should think about manufacturing him into a winger?
Tupou isnt going to play on the wing again,& TNT is going to struggle to regain his speed after his injuries..so theres going to be more opportunities out wide for someone with his speed

Height and lateral leap would be a problem for Willie on the wing methinks.

But hell I am all for thinking outside the box
