THE Wests Tigers are on the cusp of landing the most important signature in the club’s recent history with captain Aaron Woods closing in on a new deal.

The joint venture club needs to make the deal happen to kick their 2017 campaign off on the strongest possible note after their round one demolition of the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

In what would be a massive boost for Wests Tigers’ legion of supporters, Woods is believed to be close to agreeing to a four-year contract that will all but guarantee the front row forward remains a Tiger for life.

There are still a number of sticking points which will need to be resolved before the club can announce the deal but it is tracking positively.

Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe has been working constantly behind-the-scenes to try and get the deal done with the club captain and local junior, who is not only the Tigers’ leader on the field but also the most popular figure at the club.

With Woods expected to commit to Wests Tigers long-term, negotiations with young gun local juniors James Tedesco, Mitchell Moses and Luke Brooks are also believed to be tracking positively.

All four are extremely close friends and regarded as essential to the future success of Wests Tigers.

Dubbed the “big four”, Woods, Tedesco and Brooks are all Balmain juniors who attended Holy Cross College in Ryde, while Tedesco is a Campbelltown junior who over the last two seasons has established himself as one of the NRL’s elite fullbacks.

Talk of a deal for Tedesco being done has been doing the rounds for the past month. All four players share the same agent, Isaac Moses, who refuses to comment on negotiations.

As one of the first players picked for NSW and the Australian Kangaroos, Woods, 25, has virtually carried the Wests Tigers forward pack single-handedly for the past three seasons.

A Leichhardt Juniors junior, the deal is believed to be equivalent to Woods’ standing as a current international forward.

I have a gut feeling Teddy's signing will be announced this week as part of a promotion exercise for our first home game at Cambo and maybe they will save Woods up till just before the first LO game. Anyway never count your chickens till they have hatched but got a good feeling about three of the four

as soon as someone looks to sign a four year deal the media call it a 'lifetime deal'

i think we can safely assume woods will not retire at 29.

Announcements still feel a couple weeks off. Probably will get announced going into the first Leichhardt game.

Yep pure quality journalism from Goofy Hooper. On Foxsports he came on spouting we were extremely close to re-signing Woods but it may take a few months to finalize the deal. To me that ain't "extremely close".
And his supposed 4year deal that will see him a Tiger for life….....retired at 30?
How this nutsack is considered a top RL journo is beyond comprehension, then again when you are competing with clowns like Rothfield that goes a way to explaining it.

The beauty of Nofa being underrated is that he isn't being chased by all the clubs like Tedesco. Apart from that Nofo deserves HEAPS more credit than what he is currently getting.

IMO he is one of the best 5 wingers in the comp

Don't kid yourself. More clubs will put offers to Noffa than Tedesco.

Well you still can't deny the ability of Nofa and how he is in the big 5

Would be great if we announced Teddy & Nofo's re-signings this week!

Parramatta are going to make a play for Nofa.

Great news, sign up the clubs leader in Woods and hopefully the other guys will also follow after seeing him commit.

Incredible to think Woods is still only 25\. He gets slated a lot here and elsewhere, but to think that he might only be starting his prime now is pretty amazing.

Long term captain and inspirational. It seems like the boys really enjoy his leadership. Sign him up
