Looks like it will still be going ahead in England at the end of the year.

I wouldn't be surprised if lots of high profile NRL players back out to avoid mandatory quarantine etc. With that in mind I think it might be worth putting a few quid on some of the smaller teams to fluke a win, or England to win at home (they are currently at 9 to 1). Samoa and Fiji are currently at 51 to 1 odds.

Apologies if my post above reads like a gambling ad.

I love my international footy and am looking forward to this, I would be gutted if it did get cancelled at the last minute.

In England ?
Devo....

I hope Lebanon field a decent team.
I'm hoping to buy some gear this year.

Lebanon were unlucky against Tonga at the last one!

Moses going to play for Lebanon

Born winner.

Most on here would disagree ...tosser of the highest order

I was joking.
He sucks.

But the team needs him.
I doubt he'd put the jersey on again tho.

You love him ...he's Lebanese .....

I have my thoughts about him.
Wouldn't say I love him.

But Lebanon could use him.

Maybe he and Douehi can become besties along with Twal and bring him back to the WT's

Thought it was poor form Meninga trying to talk Jarome Luai out of playing for Australia instead of Samoa.

We should be encouraging players who want to represent other nations to do so.

Having a strong Tonga is much better than having a strong Australia and NZ.

Meninga picked Radradra for Australia, even though he only moved from Fiji to play for parra in his 20s.

Agree.

Like when Moses played for Oz in the WC9s...
No thanks.

Let's get the other teams as good as they can be for a decent comp.

I agree it is in the best interests of everyone to have a stronger international game. Yep, for me, let Luai play for NSW and then if he feels his heart is more for Samoa, then play for Samoa. He can have passion for playing for his state as well as passion for his country of heritage. I think let the players who are eligible to play for two nations choose which nation they want to represent. I'm looking forward to the World Cup. Australia will win it for sure, but I'm keen to say developing nations, like Jamaica and Lebanon do well. I'm also keen to see how France is developing. There has been a minor resurgence for RL in France lately and they have Robinson on board.

Yeah it will be in England, and I think the following one in 2025 is in France. There are a few Lebanese players floating around in France I believe!

I thought 2025 was meant to be in North America?

That was the intention originally but there were concerns about finances, and I think the unfortunate fate of Toronto Wolfpack sealed the deal. If I understand correctly the same businessman backing the Wolfpack was backing the world cup bid in North America.

Nah the guy behind the USA world cup was also behind the NZ v UK Denver game, which attracted 20k people, but he didn't pay up. So after that the world cup bid fell through.

He was also the guy behind bringing the baseball to the SCG. Moore Sports

The guy behind Toronto was completely different

Ah ok, apologies, thanks for clarifying.

It was such a shame about the Wolfpack, they were building nicely from the ground up, getting enthusiastic crowds of locals etc, they finally made it to Super League in the face of a bit of English opposition, then covid shuts down travel and they get the boot.

They didn't get a fair go.
Super League clubs denied them any central funding and had all their travel expenses to be covered. The only way they made money was off the gate or sponsorship.

But they were getting around 10k per game and were generating good interest in Toronto.

The owner made plenty of mistakes but the Super League really had it in for them, rather than support it as an opportunity to grow the game and their revenue.

I've gone off the Super League because of the way they treated Toronto

The Super League, unfortunately are hanging on to a tired old system of teams from within a very small geographical area playing each other. Some of their teams roll out crowds of 3000 every week. Their hope is to be more progressive. I loved what the Wolfpack were doing. Another team in France is needed as well. But no, they will stick to what worked in 1950 and the decline will continue. Sad really.

It's the only chance he'd have of playing International League????

He played for Oz in the world cup 9s.

We're talking real stuff not Mickey Mouse revenue raising games
