Worst teams in recent history

Brisbane would have to be up there in terms of the roster versus results. Wests 99 were a bottom of the barrel roster. They would show up every week and have a go so I'm reluctant to bag them out considering the money the likes of any recent underpergorming roster would be worth.

It's unfair to compare Brisbane/Bulldogs 2020 to Wests 99.

Yep. This is where coaches deserve credit or criticism.

Look at their entire roster and imagine it fully fit with a mentally fit coach

Yeah they'd have plenty of people wanting to coach them. But coaches are seriously hit or miss aren't they? Like, is there any guarantee that Paul Green, winning a final and making another, will be any good in his next job? Justin Holbrook was a mystery and jury is still well out on Adam O'Brien.

Who that's worthy is going to coach them? You need the best of the best and to me that excludes Walters. Maybe Cameron Smith could with a team of crack assistants and otherwise its Bellamy.

I'm going to call the Broncos the worst team in recent memory. Curious what others think?

I think the Broncos will end up with the spoon. I've seen quite a bit of them this year 'thanks' to Channel 9 and they are the worst coached side I can remember since one of Kearney's Parra teams, 2011 I'll go with. Injuries or not this Broncos team have zero discipline and no character. I can't remember any team consistently getting beaten by so much.

My memory is a bit fuzzier for 2000-2009 but there were some awful Souths teams in that time. We've had bad ones but I don't think we've ever deserved the spoon, maybe 2013 but that's it.

Honourable mentions:
Newcastle 2016
Parra 2011
Titans 2019

Remember PEOPLE IN GLASS HOUSES

I'd back Paul Green still as a coach

After watching Morgan's 1st game back I think he might be finished ...his defence was as bad as Marshalls on the weekend

Pick most Western Suburbs teams of the 1990s. 1999 team takes the cake

Wests made the top 5 in 1991, 1992 and top 8 in 1996, we would love to have that record now

Maggies had some solid years in the 90’s. Their success in that decade is somewhat underrated. The competition reforming at the end of SL killed them off. They were always a tough, gritty side during the 90’s, then the club went broke and had to field a team of park footballers. Lost count the amount times they’d be down 40 nil at half time. It was the greatest thing when the JV formed, and we got the influx of high profile signings. Yeah, money was wasted, but it was great following a team that were winning games on a semi-regular basis.

It was only the late 90's - the early 90's with Ryan as coach they made the semis a couple of times and won the club championship. Again when Raudonikis took over in the mid 90's they again made the semis. it was when Super League came in that they were decimated and never recovered.

It took us 5 years too recover from over paying "experience" in season 2000 after a brilliant start.

I wonder how long to recover from similar circumstances in 2018.

Depends how far back you go. Before University was kicked out as a team, I think they went for about 3 years without a win. That is about a hundred years ago though.

In the article I read (cant find it now) they factored in F/A and the Maggies were in the high 30's negative

Yeah I doubt the scores were that high back then for Uni as an average. High 30's is pretty bad.

Doggies lost a couple of games when they first started where the opposition got to about 87 and 92 I think. That may be comparable, as those losses would have dragged the average up.

Oof you're right, 91-6 is Canterbury's biggest loss, in 1935 v St. George.

My memory goes further back. Way back to the mid 60s, when Eastern Suburbs were the worst side in the NSWRL. I think it was 1966, a year or so before they got Jack Gibson in, that they didn't get a single win. No competition points, not a sausage. And getting walloped by cricket scores.

After one heavy loss, the coach threatened to make them do laps of the training oval for every point they got beat by. And true to his word, after the next loss, they had to jog 30 or so laps.

Next game after that was on a muddy track. At half time they were down 20-0. As the muddy players dropped back to the shed, the coach noticed one of the forwards had a relatively clean shirt.
Hey you! coach exclaimed. You didn't have a go out there, did you? Look how clean you are. What are you doing?

Savin' meself for trainin' replied the player.

And that’s when trys were worth 3 points as well.

After watching them against the Titans tonight, can’t disagree. That game was there to be taken and they just could not get on top. Coach killing errors.

I think the Mighty Magpies may have won the Club C'ship in 1991 @851, as well as the great effort of being in the top 5.
