Mbye has a bloody game to play and focus on... He's not a childminder out there

No he's not a child minder @innsaneink it's called good and responsible man/player and team management....have you never heard of that?

To be honest Magpies 1963,as soon as BJ showed aggression toward the players in the manner he was showing, Madge should have hooked him,not Mbye saying things to him because BJ could have told him to get stuffed....

Yes very true @TrueTiger If Mbye as Captain doesn't have the respect of his players....then yes Madge should have hooked Leilua.
Re players that cause trouble on the field....I know there are a few players at least that have reformed, I just can't think of their names atm apart from I think Friend from the Roosters.
I really hope that Madge (who I feel is doing a great job for us) can put a stop to Leilua's madness, and I feel he can and will in the short term, cause we just bloomin well need him if we are to get where we deserve to be this year, and that is at least 8th spot
Then if we get there, I am confident we will knock over a couple of the pretty boy teams.

You miss the point Magpies, its not up to Mbye to tell BJ to go off the field,he can tell him to settle down etc,it has nothing to do with respecting the captain,in those sort of situations the coach could clearly see BJ was heading for revenge and he should have hooked him to the sideline..he was emotional because his brother was involved and that should have raised the red flag...

Mbye is the captain receiving substantially more $ than a team leader making life or death decisions in Emergency or a section leader in Afghanistan. Time to put his big boy pants on.

Its not his role.... Not sure what relevance your comparison has... Just more irrational OTT stuff on this topic

I'm sorry @innsaneink but I heard Luke Lewis say on Saturday's ABC Grandstand in answer to a question from a caller....the Captain has the authority to tell a player to leave the field, but he didn't do it as far as we know.
A Captain with more respect from our players, someone our players look up to for inspiration and leadership in a time of crisis, a Captain that can rev the troops up to go into battle or continue the battle needs to be found before our next game imo....Mbye is not the Captain we Need!!!

It's called leadership which is expected of a Captain or team leader or section leader.

And this incident with his brother happened on the left where Mbye was positioned. What was he doing, squaring off his brassard!

This is where we need to see someone...anyone..in the team take some leadership for the playing group.
Leilua was clearly fired up from the moment his brother went down and none of our players came forward to try and calm or change the situation.
IMO this type of behaviour is against everything we want our team to represent. Or what Madge wants our team to be.

Imo you are 100% correct @Lauren re calming Leilua down.
As @Blacknwhite said "kids got a temper. we knew it when we signed him and I guarantee Madge knew it was coming too, but gambled and lost".
Mbye as Captain should have recognised that if he knows his players.... and communicated with the bench he needs to be given a spell to calm him down.
But Mbye failed to do that so is useless as a Captain and certainly not worth the $$$ we are paying him.
Leilua committed his act of stupidity, and now we are down a player for a few weeks.
From ABC Grandstand on the weekend a caller asked if anyone on the field had the authority to give Leilua a rest on the bench prior to him losing it, and the answer was.... Yes, Mbye as Captain should have recognised Leilua was probably about to lose it and should have been able to communicate with Madge in some way to get him off pronto.

I'm probably sticking my neck out here, but I dare say if Benji was on the field, none of this would've happened.

No of course you're not sticking your neck out @Spud_Murphy.
I don't know why you would think like that.
Benji.... imo is without doubt the best thing to happen to Rugba League this century, and it may well be a looooooong time before we see someone that sets the world on fire as Benji did.
He didnt need to get into the aggressive stuff to win games for us, his sheer brilliance did that.
We probably wouldn't have got into the finals in 2005 without Benji, let alone win the damn thing, so it would have been 'zero' premierships for Wests Tigers in 20 years....can you imagine the state our forum would be in if that was the case.
Imo Benji's days are very nearly over though.
Time moves on and the style of Rugba League has changed. There's even been a change of name from Rugby League to Rugba League, and about time to, as we will no longer be confused with that inferior game of Rugby Union.
Right now Wests Tigers are desperate for more aggression from our players.
The sort of aggression that Leilua can produce (providing he behaves himself) and the sort of aggression Packer can produce, but he also has to cut out the silly stuff.
Imo Madge aint trying to develop a 'pretty boy' team such as the Roosters and Manly, I reckon he is trying to develop a tough Westie style team capable of legitimately beating the crap out of anyone that is foolish enough to want to take us on, and I believe that process has started.
So to answer your question "none of this would have happened if Benji had been on the field instead of Leilua".
Halleleilua Brother.

Now c'mon fair dinkum @Geo was that a question or a statement?
Imo....with Madge knowing Leilua's history there would obviously have to have been an understanding between Madge, Mbye and Leilua, that if Leilua is getting out of hand Mbye as Captain has the power and obligation to tell Leilua he has to have a short visit to the bench to cool down before he comes back into the game.
With Leilua being forewarned this can happen if necessary, I doubt very much he would tell his Captain to "get stuffed" as another poster suggested.

Wests Tigers players expect a suspended Joey Leilua to return “twice the player” after a trademark Michael Maguire home truth prompted the emotional back to apologise to his teammates almost in tears.
Leilua will spend four weeks on the sideline after his late high tackle on Penrith fullback Dylan Edwards that has been widely hailed a “dog shot”.

The woeful tackle bitterly disappointed coach Maguire, who delivered a frank conversation to his marquee signing.

Tigers winger David Nofoaluma revealed a remorseful Leilua fought back tears as he vowed to restore his teammates’ faith.

Nofoaluma hopes the suspension inspires his fellow outside back to remove the “mental breakdowns” from his game.

“Joey was very upset about it (the tackle),” Nofoaluma told The Daily Telegraph.

“He was almost in tears and you could see that he knew that he did the wrong thing.

“Madge had a serious conversation with Joey, and he apologised to us after the game.

“That is a personal thing for him, and he just needs to sort that out himself.

“We as players can only control what we can, and Joey can do the same for himself.

“He is a great player and built a combination through the pre-season and we just started moulding, so it is very disappointing for myself not to have him in the squad, but it gives Joey an opportunity to train and appreciate it when he gets back to not have those mental breakdowns.”

Nofoaluma knows what it is like to cop some classic Maguire honesty.

He experienced his frank approach last season when he spent the first part of the season in the reserve grade ranks.

Nofoaluma admitted the entire Tigers’ squad didn’t know how to take Maguire’s brutal approach when he first joined the club last season.

“Even myself, I was really taken aback,” he said.
“He is a real tough coach and if he says something you can’t take it to heart.

“But at the start when he first told me something I was like, ‘Oh, this bloke is hard’.

“I didn’t play at the start of last year, but in the end it made sense because he was just trying to get the best out of me.

“Now players understand where Madge is coming from.

“If he says something isn’t good enough then you just have to say fair enough, and I’ll just work my way back into the team.

“You have to respect that from Madge given what he has achieved at previous clubs.”

Tigers captain Moses Mbye was disappointed with Leilua’s late tackle on Edwards, but he is confident the former Raiders centre will bounce back.

“Hindsight is always a great thing, but Joey probably let the emotion get to him a little bit,” Mbye said.

“Those things happen in football and you get a bit overwhelmed and you come up with the wrong decisions.

“It will be a good lesson for Joey. He knows what he has done wrong, and now he has got to watch us play for four weeks.

“It will be hard for him, but I’m sure he will come back a better player and guy.”

I don't understand what you mean by baby talk Magpies 1963,I was just clarifying what the situation was and in my opinion Madge should have handled BJs situation from the start of his aggressive play..not Mbye as captain, remember Madge wants culture change so he has to give guidance to what he wants..if he pulled BJ off the field he would of shown true man management but took a punt on BJ doing the right thing which he didn't...

Drop him? And who would threaten the opposition then?
Nofo Yes, but that's it. Our current game plan is pass the ball to Nofo or Leilua then watch them pull a hail mary. Lets get real outside of those two and Grant there is no threat in attack and even more to the point no player that makes me want to turn the telly on.

We now reduced to a "what if" scenario?

The captain takes control in the manner I suggested. It is not that difficult. If other leaders can do it under far more stressful situations, Mbye should have done it.
