Would you risk scuttling 2017 for 2018?

Here is an interesting question now that things are a little more clear - do you risk scuttling this season to get a head-start on 2018?

I don't mean dropping guys like Woods or Tedesco, though I'd love a club to just drop a player who signs elsewhere, the reality is they are too important to the current line-up and you don't cut of your nose to spite your face.

But what about guys like Ava, middle-range guys? Would you be cool if Ava or Tim Grant announce they are leaving, just dump them straight away and promote guys like Felise or Tatola?

Obviously you cannot do it en masse, but these boys won't get the experience they need unless they get a go. I can't see us easily replacing Woods and Ava in just one recruitment period, I felt we were already an experienced prop short anyway; the young guys are going to have to come on next year.

And this talk of releasing Moses if we get Tui Lolohea - surely if we are talking 5/8th its a step-down? Lolohea has a long way to go to be a dominant half IMO, especially mostly playing ISP recently. It would be another big risk; probably less of a risk if we got TMM.

Nope, we fired a coach in round 3 to stop the season from 'drifting'. I'm expecting top 8 now that a season else Pascoe, go etc have failed.

I know there's still lots that can be achieved this year, but I don't really have the motivation to support those 3\. I'm going to try, but it's going to be hard.

Ivan Cleary hasn't given up on 2017…nor have I...

Whilst players are contracted here ....you pick the best available players...no question..

I actually think we are in a good position in the forwards with Woods, Grant and Ava going. We have Matulino and Sue already, we can buy one more to start eg Russell Packer and maybe another for depth and can promote Felise and Tatola etc

8\. **Russell Packer**
9\. Matt McIlwrick
10\. **Ben Matulino**
11\. Chris Lawrence
12\. Chris McQueen
13\. Elijah Taylor

14\. **Sauaso Sue**
15\. **JJ Felise**
16\. Michael Chee Kam
17\. Jacob Liddle

I would argue that Mitchell Moses is also a long way off being a dominant half in the nrl. We need to get Brooksy to the point where he has full control of team as soon as possible

It's a hard question to answer but it's honestly a bit of both imo. We need to start preparing for next year because of how much of our squad is going to change but also can't give up on this year whilst we are still in contention

Missing the Finals is never a positive. You don't play finals footy, you're worthless to sponsors. If we could jag 8th this season it would give us so much momentum going into next year.

100%.

It's still 2017 and Tedesco, Moses and Woods are still here. Let's worry about next year, next year.

I'd be happy to let Moses go, doing more harm than good. Woods and Tedesco are still good players so use and abuse while we have them.

Absolutely not. The coach should always put the strongest 17 players on the paddock.

I'd definitely push the likes of Felise a little harder, but as per others, I still want to have a crack at this comp. No one really scares me at the moment - a lot of inconsistent teams out there.
Would be great to get some of the homegrown guys some finals experience.

Yep. If we had replacements that were good enough I'd drop them to reserves no problems. We don't have better players.

Pick the best team every single round until you mathematically can't make the finals.

Then play the 3 turds in reserves for the final few rounds :imp:

Developing a promising junior dependant on what someone else might do isn't wise imo…. Unless the coach thinks they're ready of course.
I see eddies point of view and understand... But I'd really like to start to have players leave with no bad blood. Young blokes say dumb things

x 3

You always pick you best 17 players available each and every week.

If we are out of contention in the last couple of rounds blood some State Cup players.

I still have hopes for 2017\. Woods and Teddy are Australian/State of Origin players are will want to perform at their best each and every week.

Happy for Moses to leave once a suitable replacement has been found

No chance , there are other players in this team besides Woods , Teddy , Moses who deserve to be supported , and they would not want to give up , no player ever should want to give up , there is going to be nothing better if we can make the finals , it would show some who are leaving that we are on the up for real this time , the main job would be to find out who would love to stay and play under Ivan , also for Ivan to see who he needs to get this team going strong , we have made some solid buys and we will probably buy a few more yet , we need to finish in front of the dogs and Rorters , Eels , IT can be done we just have to keep winning games the other sides will also knock them off as well so play on guys keep supporting the Wests,Tigers
