Thoughts on Jake Simpkin?

For mine, we're looking very skinny when it comes to options at hooker.

I'd say depth is Liddle, Simpkin, Walters, Mbye. Not that strong, but do'able.

We can always pick up a 2nd tier 9 mid season if needed from injuries.

I guess that's the problem. If Liddle goes down we're stuck with a rookie and part time 9's in a key role.

We were stuck with a rookie last season too. Turned out ok, and he got rookie of the year.

If you recruit the right players age is of no concern.

Agreed, plus Simpkins has massive wraps and will be frothing for a chance.

he'll make his debut at some point this year, but hookers take time to find their feet because the position is so physically and mentally taxing at the highest level. massive wraps on him from a lot of good judges, but we have to be patient with him. if anything it explains the McInnes interest, Madge probably thinking McInnes could play there until the other 2 are ready for the week in week out grind and then move McInnes to 13.

Liddle , Simpkins , Walters , Mbye, Madden at a pinch if your desperate .How many more do you want for 1 position ?

No-one ever got my goat the way my brother did, but I'd go to war and bleed for him every day of the week.
With the Leilua boys, that bond was on display last year against Penrith and a big piece of me found it hard to fault Joey committing such a bone-headed act.
If BJ can harness his aggro and channel it the right way their gonna be awesome together.

Attended that game with my brother, a panthers fan, on the way out I was deflated but said to him, we stood up to Penrith tonight, Joeys act was a sign of it, we had each other’s back. Sadly that was all she wrote for our season, think the Warriors gave us a lesson shortly after.

Yeah it was good ...but it has to be controlled aggression ...like Brooks throwing punches .....controlled ......make him look like a chump when you set up the winning try and then let him know .....same with Joey just run over the top of him next run and give him the stare ..get in his head and get him out of yours .....play smart ...and never give a sucker an even break

Agree, we have to have discipline to beat good teams, along with that the effort and execution need to be on point. We had the effort in that game - it was one of Eisenhuth’s best performances - but we lacked the discipline and the execution when it mattered. I think Madge is the man to instil these traits at WT but I think it’s going to take him another 2-3 years.

We will miss Eisenhuth and McIntyre almost as much as we will miss Grant in 2021

Huth is the fringe player every club needs ...you can't expect him to pull those efforts out for 24 rounds ...bring him in 8-10 games a season ...hell yeah

Huth stepped up really well to make up for the disappointing end of season that Twal had and ET really stepped up as well when needed towards the end.

I would not have complained too much if a spot was found for one of them to go around again in the top 30 for this year.

A bit harsh on Twal, he was injured most of the season?

No I wasn't being harsh on Twal at all, sorry if it sounded that way.

I realize that Alex was affected badly by that injury and it was not meant to sound like I was being critical of him, instead I was trying to point out how impressed I was with the way Matt stepped up to fill the void.

Liddle 43 games since his debut....played 60 plus minutes 5 times.
Simpkin never played fg
Walters never played more than 30 minutes at dh in a game
Mbye never remember him winning a game a dh...I'm sure he has at the dogs but he is ordinary passing of the ground.
Madden never played fg. Never played dh not sure why he is here in the list.
Tldr... quality over quantity. 1 good dh would be better. At the moment we are hoping that someone will make the jersey there's

Disagree completely . We have the highest rated dummy half not to play first grade , and the Aus schoolboys dummy half who’s yes has injured himself a fair bit , but the quality is definitely there.
We have spent the last 5 -10 years doing exactly what you have suggested . From Farah to Ballin, Godinet, Taylor, Farah again , we have persistently put “experience” which you call quality , over “quantity “ which should be called uncertainty.
I think it’s time for some uncertainty.
The last 2 times we’ve rolled the dice at dummy half , we got Farah , and rented Grant .

I think 9 position is fine with Liddle and Simkin,my only concern is FB and 5/8.The rest i'm happy with.

Scratch MCK and Packer and give us a Hudson Young/ Tupounua type and I reckon Madge has a team capable of winning consistently

Looking at our squad, now 27 players with 3 more to come, i think we are in the best shape we have been for a very long time. Certainly heading in the right direction.
I hope the group can sense the way we are building and start to play like winners. If they can do that then more quality players will want to be a part of this momentum and want to come to the Tigers. We really are just a few “elite” guys off a squad that can give it a real shake!

agree. the fact that we didn't lose an extra spot in the top 30 through gaining Laurie is a massive positive for us moving forward. I would've liked to have seen Momo at least see out the year with us but we need a fullback far more than we need a centre and I can understand the move.

Man we're going to be in a good spot next year if we can upgrade a few of these guys rolling off...

Mbye is going to be the only overpaid player left... but thankfully he still does provide us with some value, unlike packer.
