WT Player Recruitment & Retention for 2021

Can’t believe Brooks was given a 4 year contract, but then again he was halfback of the year the year prior so it is what it is. Poor kid has been stuffed around with no proper 5/8 or forward pack his entire career, hopefully he kicks on.

There is some players that need to be prioritised in that off contract list for 2022 (Simpkin, Talau) for starters.

They would probably want to up their value and play out the year though.


I have high hopes for Simpkin. Talau looked ok at wing/centre, not sure what’s installed for him in 2021.
Simpkin and Liddle will obviously be battling it out at hooker. If Simpkin's has a good start (like Harry did in 2020) I’d be trying to extend his contract asap.

Agree. That's the next step in our recruitment overhaul. Upgrade and extend well before quality players become available to talk to other clubs.

So? According to this logic we still have Joey Ratu running around next year. You realise the NRL controls those pages and no clubs page's have been updated yet?

Back on topic. Not only is Laurie still listed on Panthers website the Panthers don't even control the website, so couldn't update it on a whim if they wanted to. Capeesh?

with the apparent re-signing of Nofoaluma, we have locked down all of what I class as the 'essential' re-signings. the only off contract players we now have are MCK, Cini, Liddle, Madden, Mikaele, Packer, Seyfarth and Walters, all of which are players that will either be shown the door or will have to perform to show their worth going forward. I would expect Liddle and Mikaele to be retained (pending onfield performance) and potentially Madden, but other than that, 2022 will be another year of major squad turnover.

I think we all expect to see Packer released. Unless we can give him a space on a low ball salary for 12 months and use him as an off the bench player... but I would bet my left testicle he wont be in a Wests shirt after the end of this season.

MCK - there were rumours he was leaving at the end of last season. With his prevalence for head injuries over the course of the last couple of years, as much as he is a solid utility player, I can certainly see him being released.

Interesting points.
Think the recent photo shoot stated it all if you were not part of the 14 players most likely a bench spot.
Packer will see out his contract this year i assume otherwise would have been moved on by now.

Joey Ratu. I believe is part of either the North Queensland system or the Broncos.

A Lot of bad eggs have come from that system . I think it makes elite footballers but , feeds thier ego , as much as thier skills base . It could be the area as well. A huge bubble leads to god complex’s .

It's true. He deserves the opportunity to become a better man. It's a shame he's allowed that avenue in rugby league. The ARLC needs to hold the game in higher regard and not allow thugs who seriously abuse women second chances in the game. I know I'm ranting here, just grinds my gears seeing these guys run around each week and continuing to reap the rewards of high society.
