WT Squad Prediction 2023

At the moment, we've got 26/30 filled for 2023. @ancient_magpie

I'm sure there'll be a few exits from this bunch before season kick-off, but as it stands, it's:
1. Daine Laurie
2. Ken Maumalo
3. David Nofoaluma
4. Brent Naden
5. Junior Tupou
6. Asu Kepaoa
7. Starford To'a
8. Oliver Gildart
9. Triston Reilly
10. Adam Doueihi
11. Luke Brooks
12. Tyrone Peachey
13. Jackson Hastings
14. Alex Twal
15. Stefano Utoikamanu
16. Fonua Pole
17. Zane Musgrove
18. Alex Seyfarth
19. Tukimihia Simpkins
20. Sione Fainu
21. Apisai Koroisau
22. Jake Simpkin
23. Rua Ngatikaura
24. Isaiah Papali'i
25. Shawn Blore
26. Joe Ofahengaue

Meaning that from this season's Top 30, the current changes are:
INS
- Apisai Koroisau
- Isaiah Papali'i
- Triston Reilly
- Rua Ngatikaura
- Fonua Pole

OUTS
- Luke Garner
- William Kei
- Jock Madden
- Henry O'Kane
- Tommy Talau
- James Tamou
- Kelma Tuilagi
- Jacob Liddle
- James Roberts

Excellent KR. Only change may be Tommy Talau getting renewed. Also there’s Nu Brown (not sure about his status)

Reading thru that list we have only 3 spots left (with TT added), so if we want to make finals in 23 we need to fill those spots with 3 starting 17 players, probably all forwards.
IMO we then need to lose Gildart, Peachy, Musgrove, Seyfarth, Simpkin and Simpkins to further improve our roster.

Like I said, based on some rumblings (and wishful thinking)…

Frizell I could see here if a deal was to be done..

Laurie I believe is a halve that we are playing in the fullback position, Phil Gould seems to think he is a better half then fullback, give him the offseason to prove it…

Staines I’m willing to give a fair crack, as he is still young and has plenty of pace, can still learn a lot and cement his spot at the back…

Pole I reckon is a weapon already at his smaller stature, put a couple of kegs on him and he will be a real weapon…

Cross fingers papalii sticks with his deal, and we manage to snag another decent forward as well…
Seems you and I have similar views

I think Tommy Talau will snag a top 30 contact. Interesting what happens to Gildart and Peachy.

I feel a Peachy and Staines swap after Grand Final is on the cards. WT need backs and speed and Peachy joins a long list of WT players that have badly failed to deliver.

I hope WT keep Nu Brown but others on the forum report he appears to have been offered better money elsewhere so likely to move on. I think WT have hooker position covered anyway.

Great summary of how it stands, out of that list there are 19 run ons and that's being very generous with the definition of run on. we are in a dire predicament as far as depth goes.
Any early injuries or departures and you can kiss season 2023 goodbye.

O'Kane gone for sure?

1. Daine Laurie
2. David Nofoaluma
3. Starford To'a
4. Brent Nadan
5. Ken Maumalo

6. Adam Doueihi
7. Luke Brooks

8. Joe Ofahengaue
9. Api Koroisau
10. Stefano Utoikamanu
11. Sean Blore
12. Isiah Papalli
13. Jackson Hastings

14. Fonua Pole
15. Zane Musgrove
16. Kitione Kautoga
17. Rua Ngatikaru

Prop back-ups:- Alex Seyfarth, Justin Matamua, Alex Twal
Outside Backs Backup:- Junior Tupou, Asu Kepaoa, Staines
Utility Back-up:- Chris Faagutu
Edge Backrow Backup:- Brandan Tumeth

Kautoga to work his way into the starting team and Blore to move to the middle.

Chris Faagutu may turn into a quality player. If so the whole Hastings at 13 idea becomes an issue.

We have a real lack of depth as well as a lack of top tier talent. Our best players are in our spine but they aren't good enough unless something changes.

I think our biggest issue is our lack of edge backrowers. If Doueihi could tackle he could do the job there and move Hastings to 7.

1. Daine Laurie
2. David Nofoaluma
3. Starford To'a
4. Brent Nadan
5. Ken Maumalo

6. Adam Doueihi
7. Luke Brooks

8. Joe Ofahengaue

12. Isiah Papalli
13. Jackson Hastings

14. Fonua Pole
15. Zane Musgrove
16. Kitione Kautoga
17. Rua Ngatikaru

The forwards need more. Though Api at hooker is excellent.
That backline needs pace and creativity.
Still missing a proper kicker.
I really hope we move some players on and open space, otherwise we are looking at another sooon battle.

I know thats as things stand now but …..

From the solid rumours chatter I think that Peach Stains swap may be on the cards. Also Brooks situation still bubbling along. Can’t believe Simpkins is still with us …. at best he should be on T & T contract only and not taking up a top 30 spot.

Also think that Musgrove, Simpkin, Nofa and Gildard are really not on Sheens 2023 top 30 desirables listing.

Sione Faniu …. contract situation ???

This seems strange. He's only a kid. I know about that injury story the tigers messed up, but why offload a local junior who is more likely than not to develop into a 1st grader.
His Mrs is a Laundy.

Might be an option for the Bulldogs.

I'd like us to bring Allan Fitzgibbon back, even as a magpies contract.

He wasn't charged with DV & said his name has been cleared.

Good wing prospect and looked good in recent KO footage I've seen.

Let him go man....
Watched him plenty in Ressies when he was (Supposedly) hot....
Has toe - And that's about it.
Soft in D, Ragdolled in attack.... Hands not so great.
He's been to Panthers, Union, Parra, Magpies....

There's a reason he's at where he's at.
