WT v Knights round 1 ‘25 predictions

The forwards we’ve recruited aren’t as skilful and experienced as the ones we let go either.
I’m just saying, with all the excitement, enthusiasm and high fives let’s not be putting any serious $ on them making the playoffs. 😁 I’m looking out for your best interests.
Papalii and Bateman were experienced, but their experience did not help us at all, as we got much more from Fainu (rookie) than from both of them. 😢

But their experience does help their new teams. Feel free to disagree. I mean Bellamy and Cleary see something. Unlike you. But your point is valid. Peyton also.

for me I would have 3 things to focus on in first few rounds..

Ball control - No silly passes, Putting foot on the ball in play the balls, etc

Tackle in numbers - Avoids offloads and gives us time to reset

Support play in both offence and defence

I thought we did a pretty good job in the trials for ball handling so must be a focus. Let keep it in play and wait for the other teams errors.

Pretty excited for the season ahead.

You’re absolutely correct. If the club (the entire organisation) could only seriously address your question we wouldn’t have a problem.
We seem to go through the same process, it starts with a new coach who finds it difficult to coach some experienced players, so he replaces them with more coachable players.
That whole process is continually repeated.
It doesn’t give us success because it’s a constant cycle of change, breaking apart the essential ingredient in building a winning team.
We’ll have more than a couple of our explayers we couldn’t coach in the GF this year.

Look. It’s a simple game. If the forwards do what their name suggests and GO FORWARD to win a minimum of 60% of the rucks with a quick play the ball,
the Tigers will win games because they have the firepower in the middle and outside backs like every other team. Games are won with brute force. If i was Galvin I would explain this simple fact to the coaching staff and the board if they want him to stay.

I just looked at a quik example Manly v Penrith trial

Passing

Penrith had 247total passes but 432 receipts

Interesting the run metres per ptb. in betterdays article
First was Storm last year with 10.7m per play the ball
Worst= Saints ....9.8m per ptb

Nothing in it, even after a whole game but I guess this is where the roll on begins
Ahh that’s because the dummy have receives the ball before passing it.

Id go even further and suggest that Galvin help out with this brute force. He showed in trial 2 what a lot of us already knew/suspected...he is a strong runner of the ball when he commits to that over ballplaying.
I think our pack will go well this year as they will have Turva, Skelton and Galvin himself helping them with hitups. We should be rolling forward far better than we ever have.
Finishing off opportunities with points is where we win or lose this year.

Good point Tuck was feeling sick in the stomach early in the trial last week when we were camped on their tryline and was producing the same crap we have dished up the previous 2 seasons, need to work on more variety there, to add Api's smarts will help when he's back on the paddock.

Get as many kick return metres & early set metres as we can & play the game in the opposition third as much as possible.

Pretty much what every team has done to the Tigers for the last few years.

Skelton, Turuva, Bula, Doueihi & whoever else plays centre (Mason, possibly??) are vital this season. Early hit up metres. Attack from their territory in as many sets of 6 as possible.

Assuming Olam is OUT & Klemmer is moving on..

1. Bula
2. Turuva
3. Mason
4. Doueihi
5. Skelton
6. Galvin
7. Luai
13. Twal
12. Seyfarth
11. Sam Fainu
10. Pole
9. Da Silva
8. May

14. Latu Fainu
15. Bird
16. Sione Fainu
17. Hunt

Very hard to be confident after the last decade, but I can see a win. Having a bench with high impact for the first time in living memory fuels my confidence

What would the team look like ? Of course trial form will come into play, maybe something like this.

Bula
Luke
Sunia
Olam
Skelton
Galvin
Luai
Bird
Samuela
Seyfarth
May
TDS
Klemmer

Latu
Pole
Hunt
Twal
Olam? He won't be playing..... probably he'll never play again.
