WTF – Wests Tigers Faithful Podcast

Cracked me up: Mac "...a Couple of new guys and I said, "Good Head, Good Head""

That just came across sooo wrong even though I understood where you were coming from - mind just went to the wrong place!
you’re a filthy man, Jollsy.

as always, thanks for listening ya legend.

ideally we have both. I think the pair of them improve us five spots.

Junior, Terrell coming out & being honest and open
by saying footy isn't the be all end all in his life and
that he does it for his family fits Benji's whole mantra
& coaching philosophy to a T. Match made in heaven

I think you're bang on mate. fingers crossed we hear something in the next week or so.

A decision from Brisbane on Kobe is inevitable I feel.

Well done on another great episode guys. Not sure I would be picking my side based on "Good Head" but a very interesting way to start the poddy. While we sweat on Terrell and Kobe to bolster the pack we really need to look inwards to see what can be done with what we have in the piggies as 90% of the players will be there.

You guys hit on several of them requiring big off seasons, while true, that only addresses individual performaces. Seyfarth controls the red and packs on a couple of kilos, Twal/Klemmer do some work on their actions in the ruck, Bateman, if he is here, works on his discipline etc. These individual inprovements are all well and good.

However, the way to get a real step change is to introduce a change in the way the pack operates on both sides of the ball. That is on the coaching staff.

The coaching staff are also a touchy subject with many fans - Benji can't coach being a common catch cry. Heard the same about Madge, who then goes on the coach the Kiwis to spank the Australian team 34 - 0 and then win a series with NSW.

I don't see any evidence to support the call on Benji's coaching ability being part of the problem; on the other hand the results don't prove otherwise.

So is it the coaching staff, the game plans or simply a shit roster. Interesting to hear thoughs from people who are probably a little closer to what happens at training/off the field as opposed to some keyboard warriors who are hapy to spruik shit without evidence (either way).

Keep up the great work guys!

Another great in-depth poddy guys, well done.

Yep I think the recruitment dominos will pick up pace now the Gutho deal is done & with Hunt hopefully soon to either Broncs, Dolphins or Roosters.

Be bloody beautiful if we can offload Naden, Sullivan & Bateman off our books but just not sure which club/s would be keen. Obviously Bateman to Manly has been reported but Bud & Naden (and AD for that matter) may be dependent on how other dominos fall.

I feel Isaac Moses & Richo will play a bit of poker re Bateman to see who blinks first. Moses will hold out to try to get WT to pick up as much freight as possible. I just hope Richo stands firm & says "well if you don't like our contribution, your boy must be back at Concord on Jan 2 at 6am ready to rip".

At the end of your pod, you asked for ideas on future pods over the pre-season. Maybe you could do separate pods on our likely NSW Cup team & Jersey Flegg team and some of your thoughts on the pathways guys expected to be mainstays in both grades in 25. Just something I would like anyway 😉

no doubt there’s a number of players internally that need to improve, but the writing is on the wall for guys like Klemmer and Bateman, meaning we need to go to market I think.

agree that Seyfarth and Twal haven’t hit their ceiling and have some work to do. same goes for Pole and Bula. they’re pretty important to us having a decent run. as you say, it’s on the coaching staff to get it out of them.

I’m gonna try and get to training a few times thru preseason. ideally before the December bloc finishes and once or twice in Jan and Feb. should be able to debunk a few myths.

thanks mate. really appreciate you listening.

Gutho’s done at St George now so I’d say things will move quickly now, particularly around Doueihi. Sullivan and Bateman have something to offer other clubs, but I do think we’ll be stuck with Naden, which isn’t the end of the world. time will tell.

great little idea on a pathways preview. I’ll do my research and see if it’s feasible!

Crichton came out and said he was a pretty straight arrow. Doesn't drink etc. Can't really judge the bloke on one comment considering he put runs on the board last year...his results are far more important than a few throw away comments.

I disagree on twal. Hit his ceiling and as good as he’ll ever be
If we start winning more games I don’t think it’ll be because of twally

Great podcast as always guys. Some realistic (but also optimistic) opinions that you bring forward. Great to have some Tigers content to try get through the off season.

A potential idea for a future ep....A next man up episode.

Take out most of the guaranteed/likely 17 NRL players and discuss pros and cons of who you both believe is likely to be next man up when injury/suspension strikes.

Eg. Centres - Faatape V Feledy
2nd Row - Sukkar V Porter.
etc..

Fingers crossed for some official recruitment chatter in the next couple of weeks anyway!

Depth is defintely and issue we need to look at - has been a problem for us for years.

Mac and Reedie begin with the breach notices for the Fat Five before discussing the allegedly successful meeting between Wests Tigers powerbrokers and Terrell May.

The episode then morphs into a fully fledged pathways discussion that encompasses NSW Cup, Jersey Flegg, SG Ball and Harold Matts. Our very uninformed opinions and clear bias shine through even more than usual.

Get down to some training session if you can also.
Maybe interview some of the young up and comers in Flegg.
Get Arron Payne on and see what challenges he has with being coach with his hands tied behind his back so people understand his challenges as a coach in this model.

Thanks guys, another good listen. It was great to get your insights into the juniors. Especially for us rural/remote supporters.

If you are after content ideas - it would be great to do a deep dive on our coaching staff, how our game plan changes with the new recruits and answer the question - Can Benji Coach?
