they should reduce it to 1 trial i reckon. and drop it to 22 games per club as well, no mid season anzac test.

i think greg inglis played something like 30-35 games this year, pretty ridiculous imo.

the dinos on here will probably rip into me and say 'ohhh back in the day players played the nrl season then went over to england played there, played more rep footy, then played for the other 8 regional clubs they were a part of in the offseason"

I'm still an advocate of 2 x 8 team conferences - play your conference twice (home and away)and the other once (home and away on alternate years )- 22 games and much fairer than the present system. Unfortunately I think the NRL is tied to certain number of weeks in the current TV deal.

But that would have to work on a Ranking System and with Clubs signing new players it would be hard to determine how they would really go ? i mean who would of thought Panthers would do as well as they did ? i had them fighting out for the spoon at the beginning of the year and who would of thought the Sharks would of ended where they did ? It could be a very uneven format Died pretty but i like your thinking in terms of everyone playing each other home and away, T.V Ratings could take a hit .

Presuming replies to your statements does nothing for you, especially when no one disagrees

Wests Tigers Head Coach Jason Taylor highlighted the importance of these trial matches in preparation for the 2015 season.

“I’m looking forward to the trial matches that we’ve locked in for 2015,” Taylor said.

“It’s a good opportunity for players to stake their claims for positions in the team and show what they have worked on during the off-season.

“Obviously we have a lot of hard work to do at training before then, but I know that the players will be itching to get back on the field,” he said.

On–sale dates for tickets and kick-off times will be confirmed closer to each match.

It's awful.

Only 2 NRL trials before the season starts. We need to give our youngsters a chance to gel, work on combinations and get some confidence. 2 games, one of which in the NT, is simply not enough.

The 9's don't count either, totally different format and skills required.

Given the injuries which generally occur I think 2 trials is plenty.

Agree Willow, trials are a necessary evil. Don't think it matters if we play two trials if ten, our combinations will take time considering we will likely be using players barely ready for first grade.

well yeah definitely can't move it until 2018\. the tv deal is probably the biggest single thing constraining the NRL and Dave Smith atm.

i like the idea, both options have their pros and cons.

the fairest (imo) is playing as few teams twice as possible. Doing it once is impossible because, like you said, we need the money. With 18 teams playing 20 or 22 games each means the number of teams played twice is reasonably small. And will become even smaller with expansion to 20 teams in maybe 8-10 years time.

The NRL is about as interested in fairness as a Bjelke Peterson cabinet.
And aside from capacity to rig a gerrymander of sorts, about as competent administratively.
