So I've just been told we have signed Yileen Gordon. Possible announcement during the week but he will start pre-season with everyone else.

He is a guy who I thought always had the potential to be a real good player , but just never kicked on

He has been out of first grade since 2011, probably picked up a reggies contract for NSW Cup so no real issue there.

He is not even a depth player, just your run of the mill reserve grader at very best. The only time he will get near fg is on photograph day.

It's true.

Career reserve grader.
Why on earth wld you bother picking this guy up …unless we have acknowledged spending on 1st graders is a waste as we'll be totally uncompetitive, anywayso lets win the State Cup instead.
& Gordan isnt even good enough for that!

you do realise clubs have to purchase players to play NSW Cup right? not every single signing is being paid 250k and expected to play 24 games in the season…

Because you recruit at every level of the game.

I understand you cant buy a team of SOO players, but everything we do shld be geared towards making an impact in the 1sts,so in state Cup Id be using local juniors who have graduated from NYC plus potential 1st graders from other clubs ,or "leaders"who can deveplop younger players…Gordan is probably bargain basement cheap ,but doesnt fill any of the above criteria
He'll never be a 1st grader,& is a waste of a spot IMO

According to his bio Gordon played the majority of the 2011 season for the Panthers' NSW Cup feeder club, the Windsor Wolves. After he was released by Penrith, he spent 2012 playing for Moore Park in the South Sydney local league.

we dont have enough quality juniors to field 3 teams. That requires around 60-70 people at the very minimum. And we also have a 3rd grade side.

any potential 1st graders will cost too much. If we have 30k left in our NSW Cup salary cap, who do you want the club to buy to play a particular position for the 2014 NSW Cup season? All the juniors have been promoted to 1st grade, are required in NYC or already in NSW Cup. We simply dont have enough without buying 2nd grade players from elsewhere. They are not expensive at all…

every single club has to buy them

if you cant understand that, cant help ya mate.

Its the same arguments every time the club signs someone.

"Why are we signing him???? We need PROPS/HALVES/CENTRES etc".

"Hes crap!!! promote this junior kid I watched one time".

"Why can't we sign rep players? All the other clubs can do it!!!".

:roll :roll

so true.

the way people were going on about Brooks in the first half of 2013, you'd think SG Ball and U20's games averaged 5k every game judging by the amount of games people on the forum had 'watched' of him.

Great potential but just may have got a little bit side tracked along the way. Debut in NRL when he was 18 years old maybe a little soon for his time. Don't be quick to judge or put down people if you haven't experienced the NRL pressures yourself. He will be playing 1st grade next year & what will you's have to say then?

If he gets to 1st grade he will have earned it.
