Your Team 2023

These comments (posted below) from Brooks in the foxsports article pretty much confirm Ice will play on the left with Brooks. Add this comment to the training vision we have been seeing of him on the left and it's a pretty safe bet. I think they will work well together.

“I’m really looking forward to playing with ‘Ice’ (Isaiah Papali’i), I think he’s someone that will suit my game,” he added.

“He’s a good hole-running back-rower, but also in defence he’s a good quality player and you can really see that when we’re out on the field training.”

I disagree too.

Maybe Penrith made him look good.
He's very ineffective imo.

We arent debating if Eiso is an all round effective player, It's in relation the role he had to play for that Penrith team as a fill in lock for Yeo. He mimmicked him very well and showed Yeo's ball playing isn't anything like the media have you believe.

Not a bad overall squad for 2023

Apologies in advance if this exists elsewhere but interested in what is out there in terms of rumours on the make up of our team
@THE_POM spoke of Laurie as looking like our FB with Sheens wanting more talk out of Charlie. That'd lead you to think Douehie is the 6 and likely frees up a centre spot for TT. Not sure then if Charlie grabs a wing spot but maybe if we think he is a potential future FB. Some rumblings also that Bateman may be our 13 so good news I guess for Blore

Look forward to others sharing anything they may have heard

1. Laurie
2. Nofo
3. Talau
4. Naden
5. Staines
6. Douehie

Looks on the money to me. Poor Ken M. Getting left out of everybody's side - he was one of our best backs last year on one leg. I would drop Nofo. I am just over that bloke.

The Stains and Laurie thing is the twist. Stains i believe is on good coin, and is a good backup at least, at fullback and can play wing. Against that, Bula may negate the reason to re-sign him with some fast kids coming through. Laurie has been offered a 1 yr extension, and is also a handy backup in the halves if Bula makes Fullback at some stage Too much to play out at this stage.

Mine hasn’t changed from what I thought previously, as of yet.

I think this is what it’ll be for Round 1:

1. Laurie
2. Nofoaluma
3. Talau
4. Naden
5. Maumalo
6. Doueihi
7. Brooks
8. Klemmer
9. Koroisau
10. Utoikamanu
11. Bateman
12. Papali’i
13. Ofahengaue

14. Simpkin
15. Twal
16. Blore
17. Pole

Only changes I could possibly see happening are Bateman and Blore switching, if Bateman isn’t ready to start yet on his limited preparation.
+
I could also maybe see Matamua to lock, Ofahengaue starting at prop, Utoikamanu to the bench, and Twal out.

yep, looks about right.
Hope Matamua and Junior Tupou get same quality time in the trails.
Not sure if we'll see Matamua in R1 but that's the thing I'm looking forward to see in the trials.

Do you see Pole now above Twal in the prop rotation pecking order?

What about Blore as well. Twal is good but if Matamua plays at lock someone is missing out. It has to be one of these three who get benched assuming everyone is fit.

I'd say Blore will be there because he'd be the only true second-rower on the bench at full strength.

But yeah, if Matamua plays lock it means Twal or Pole would miss out on the 17 entirely.

I think it's more likely though that Matamua misses out for now and Joffa starts at lock, meaning Twal and Pole both make the side, coming off the bench.

I think Matamua misses out as well. I'm not convinced that Blore is a second-rower. I reckon he is another guy who has a lot to prove.
